Japanese Publishers Stress PS3, Patching

A number of third party executives gathered on 7/6 at a press meeting hosted in Tokyo by Japan's CESA (Computer Entertainment Software Association). Big names like Square Enix president Yoichi Wada and Bandai Namco Games' vice president Shin Unozawa shared thoughts on the future of gaming.

No seriously, I hope that devs don't start getting lazy in not making sure their products work correctly before being launched. Gamers are paying big money for their products and if they are not working correctly out of the box, that is unacceptable. Then it'll be just as bad as the PC. While PC games are nice because they can be patched later, it also makes it easier for a developer to rush things just to get the game out, and it is unplayable for gamers for some time.

why pay for beta testers if you can ship it broken and fix it later. customers be damned. Look at it this way,if you wait for them to patch the game before buying ,you can get it for less than the 60 or 70 buck they are thinking of asking and at the same time show the developers that shipping beta crap isnt gonna fly like it does on the pc....lets hope

What this guiy is proposing is unacceptable. I don't want half @ss games. Make them right the first time. Online is for demos, playing with your friends and previews. Patches should not be there.It shows signs of being greedy and lazy.

This is so stupid. If games are buggy, they simply won't sell. The Wii is more popular in Japan anyway, so they can't be getting all arrogant. So they want to also introduce downloads for future games where you have to pay extra costs. I hate sony, i need a chill pill...

Why do they WANT to propose the idea of PATCHES. It really is wasting 60 bucks for a half @$$ed game and then MORE money for patches to fix the bugs. God, no one likes bugs, and either way around, someone's going to come up with a cheat code and probably find another glitch. =-=

I dont care what the wii and 360 achieves all i want is my PS3 and Unozawa said, "The PlayStation3 will definitely sell." , "we can only hope" but till then they must sort there crap out and release the plarform when its done cause i dont want to buy a broken machine, and that will cripple sony if they sell a faulty machine.

I hope for the gamers sake Sony releases a relatively bug free console also. Because after all the JUNK they are talking if they have the same problems with this one as the last 2 when they have been talking about how they are light years ahead and future proof I think people would rather have a BULLETPROOF piece of hardware that works as advertised without issues.

it will be a broken console far longer than than the xbox 360, it has to much stuff in it with the blu-ray and all, it will be very faulty, I hope its not cause that sucks for people who buy them, but if their still finding problems building it, theirs going to be mad problems with the finished product.

I like the fact that throught XBOX LIVE and the Sony online service they can put out patches ............. HOWEVER ........... only if the patch is to "BETTER THE GAME". When I buy the game, I still want it to be awsome, run nice, play great and have no issues at all ... the patch process should be used to make something that is excellent even better ..... not to bring a game up to par because it was released half asses.

That is why I don't really get bend if a game is delayed .... that useally is due to it not being ready and the developers needed more time to GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

patches are supposed to fix the small goofy bugs that ESCAPED debugging! they aren't supposed to be used to retroactively apply the debug!

though i have my doubts about the japanese language translation used by the journalist here. he seems vague, and yet reports his article based upon this interpretation.
