More ingame footage of the Halo 3 Beta.
Wow.. that snow is fantastic, love how players kick it up and how it sounds when the rocket smacks into it.
cool vid, am not a fan or anything of the series but that is one cool looking vid.
Excellent video. Much better.
I liked the clean footage. A little part of me wants to play the game now. If the people weren't bright blue and red I would so get the game.
im not sure if you've played halo 2 but on some modes you can actually change your armor color.
It looks awesome!
Have an idea when we can expect to see the gameplay footage from save the date today?
Same animations!C'mon how lazy half ass is that! This is an insult to my inteligence to think i will pay 59.99 or more for nearly the same halo 2 with some minor tweaks, this needs a completely overhaul on graphics and animation WTF!Bungie get your act togheter, Gears of War will imbaress you.
Think about it...THIS IS HALO!! This game is THE flagship title for the 360, even above Gears. MS is banking on this game for the Holidays, and being responsible for selling a few million 360's. As great as Gears looked....and sold... MS will get SLAMMED by the media, if this game turns out to be anything but the best-looking next-gen shooter EVER. That this game will not look as good as, or even sport the realistic physics of games that released long before it, is pathetic.
- They are using the same boring jump and death animations they had in Halo 1 & 2.
- The textures and lighting are O.K., but the lack of ANY terrain deformation is a glaring next-gen no-no. When you RUN in snow....let alone fire a ROCKET into it, there should be a visible crater. Instead, they use the exact same "smoke-stain" effect where the explosion took place.
Halo 2 was widely considered a disappointment (online popularity aside), and Bungie has even admitted it. Having 3+ years dev time, and nearly unlimited resources (via MS), there's really no excuse for this game being anything short of jawdropping...and so far, it's not even eyecatching.
And don't give me that tired "this is Beta...the final game will be much better" crap. I played the HELL out of the Lost Planet demo, 8 MONTHS before the final game released ; it looked/played EXACTLY the same in final form....and MUCH more impressive than Halo 3.
Don't get me wrong...this game will be a success, and sell millions ; but, only because of the established fan(boy) base of the Halo franchise. By and large, these people still play Halo 2 on LIVE, more than any other game that's come out in the first 18 months on the 360...which is truly pathetic.
i never really thought halo had good graphics i mean they were all right but not amazing it has always been about "wow i just totally out b.r.ed you haha" but for halo the graphics are actually not that bad
for all my fellow halo players that actually play the game know that this does look good for halo and that it will be once again a blast to play on live delivering the best matchmaking/party system to date.
wow thwip.. wouldnt expect this from you, but you have some good points. I'm sure the graphics are going to be better when it comes out... But everyone, including me, cuz i've played it, says that halo is all about gameplay which is very true.. its really fun to play. Even me as a noob I can pretty much get 1 to 1 ratio on my k/d. But think about.. what has changed about the gameplay?, it really looks like exactly the same type of gameplay that 1 and 2 had, same types of animations, same physics, same guns. Is everyone going to be satsified with a pretty more, more visually pleasing halo2?
obviously you know what you are talking about. cuz you're an expert right? in the gaming business? developer? that's what i thought.
What you saw was a Beta video. Bungie have said the demo coming out in the next few weeks will look even better than anything we've seen. And that demo is not even the final version of the game.
So don't judge anything yet until you have something to judge.
...where I said not to bother with that excuse. Trust me... we won't see any major improvements between now and release. If they're not implementing physics and animations at this point, then that means they won't be in the game. Things like lighting and texture details may be missing from Beta, but not key components that can really impact gameplay. Otherwise, what's the point of doing a Beta-test, if it's nowhere near what they'll be putting on the shelves?
have added in the HDR lighting or what the hell it's called or anything like that yet. The models aren't done (my god I hope not) and they still have yet to add light reflections and real time visor reflection. Very disappointing to not see this in Beta.
GT Starfleets, Demo whaaa?
Things like HDR (High Dynamic Range) lighting, reflections, and texture resolution are often scaled back, or dropped altogether, to allow for a smoother online experience. But animations and physics are something that should be consistent, whether online, or offline.
I meant the Beta demo thing. Bungie said the visuals on that will be better than anything we've seen so far.
Nice for beta, real nice.
it is still very early.
but i do agree w/ thwip, for such a big budget title it should look better at this point.
but again, like i said i will improve in the future.
how much i don`t know.
it`s like this.
i didn`t like GEOW gameplay, but when i saw vid`s and screens i was impressed(way before it came out)
Games get better, but not THAT much better from the time you start seeing it.
so like i said so far i`m not impressed.
I think it looks good and don't think we should worry so much about it right now! Bungie always seems to add crazy visuals during the last 6 months of development!
who knows how far along the game has come? Come on gamers...
You can only speculate what has or have not been done, because of the current date
Plus is it me, but I didn't notice any new guns and such? is that the whole point of a BETA? Where is the new weapons?
Plus I got a feeling this game might be Delayed, remember I said that.
HALO 3 has to be released at the exact right time to go against other competitive a games and SONY. Just like Nintendo's "out of stock" strategy, MS may wait till Pre-Orders real 4+ mil.
The gameplay might be fun but this does not look a 2nd gen, and the most hyped up game for the 360 as far as this trailer goes. May that be beta or whatever. Games like Gears have raised the bar interms of gfx and gameplay. Whats with the sparse barren environments, BF:MC had much better maps in my opinion and that game is more than a year old. FFS lost planed has better snowy effects.
I believe either bungie are not showing the real maps and only feeding us some lame maps or they rode on their own success and dint fix what was not broken and thus we'll get Halo 2.4 (HD edition). I'm hoping for the former.
@Kewlkat below: Man you are taking it to heart. Btw what are MP games supposed to be based on ? Maps or something else? If the levels are not interesting enough then just give us a plain surface to fight on, and since its halo3 everyone and their nanny will pick it up. Well that should not be the case. If they have to give us the same thing as last time with just the improved visuals then this is really BS. And this is not the only video we've seen, there were other vids also in which the same sort of enviornment is shown. Where the hell are the buildings, even if its some planet UT series had really good maps.
your criticizing a friken map, whats next not enough rocks or caves for you to hide in. The snow too dirty for ya? did you even see the whole map.
The things people comments about in games are ridiculous. I could understand the textures or something but your talking about the single MAP. How much do you get from this little video of the whole game/map.
I swear people are looking for anything to criticized, no stones left unturned eeh. Even if it was the first build of any game, they would still say the graphics don't look great. duuuh
GEARS OF WAR did set the BAR high and for one thing the UT engine is a BEAST. Not every game thats come out from now on is going to look and play like GEARS of WAR. your gonna be very disappointed waiting for Gear type graphics in all games.
can someone post a mirror? the site doesn't load for me and I have the newest version of flash
Dont bother you'll be disappointed.
the player on the bottom screen picking up an item called "Power Drain"? it happened right as the guy on the top screen picked up the bubble shield. Any ideas what the heck that thing is?
Those rocket explosions were awesome! They looked/sounded violent as hell! I probably watched that first explosion 5 times in a row.
That said, the graphics still aren't good enough, but I don't think it's cause for concern yet. The main reason--Because this footage looks EXACTLY the same (in fact, a little less-polished) than the leaked vid from several months ago.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=... --If you don't remember, Bungie took Halo 3 up to Iraq (around Christmas, I think), and this was taken from there. The clip's only 10 seconds long, but it's definitely from a build with significantly more polish than this current footage (who knows how old this is).
The only way I'm getting negative on Halo 3, is if the Beta itself turns out disappointing. And we'll find out soon enough if that's the case or not. Only a few days away now...
demo next week. excellent
Looks simply amazing! Can't wait for the beta.
Sak500, this is a BETA. Okay. Halo still has 3-4 months to go to finish the graphics. And while yes, they need to push the envelope in terms of graphics- Bungie has a proven track record for excelling in the graphics department two times in a row. Notice I didn't say beating the entire market, I said excelling. If Halo only matches Gears (only matches GEARS?) than [email protected]
Can't WAIT for the beta guys.
All i'm saying is that the maps look bad compared to whats been offered in recent past. I dont know maybe since i only played halo on PC that i'm so critical on this iteration. Maybe the whole game is based on mountains and valley maps. People who have been gaming on pcs (like me) have been subject to more varied kind of gameplay, starting all teh way back to doom, duke nukem 3d, quake etc. And each new game brought something new to the fold. But all I see here is same kind of things which i saw 2-3 years back on my pc. People who only experienced their first fps with Halo on xbox then i'm sure they probably worship this franchise. For me it was not doom but quake series which awed me and made me a hardcore quake fan, well till quake 4. I even used to play quake iii arena using 56k modem and with ping of 900+ ms but still loved it.
Also game series like BF have bought online MP fps gaming to new high (or lows for people who have not had good experiecewith it), and i've bought every copy of BF, except for one one or two expansion packs. And belive me with full settings on and a beefy computer, no console can touch fps games that are available on pc. Sorry about going on tangent but this is from a perspective of a PC gamer.
Halo 3 is going to be a huge success
I'm one of those cats that still play Halo 2, actually in a few minutes. I really was expecting sometihng more on the lines of what TWHIP is saying. (That is the FIRST time I've agreed with him/her)
I would just expect a little more than a graphical tweak. I would expect the environments to actually do something. Maybe rain or something during a mulitplayer match. How awesome would it be for a thuderstorm to blow up right in the middle of a mulitplayer match. You see it coming off the coast as the games starts and during the match you have wind and rain to contend with. Maybe waves if you're on sure. That's next-gen, improved graphics are what I got on the new Halo2 maps that came out.
My expectations were I guess too high. Burn stain on snow when a rocket goes off is not what I was expecting (nice blast effect but why didn't it effect the ground?). Will it be fun? Yes, Halo 2 is fun so that won't change, I just expected more. Oh well...
bungie's said that the weather effects are being worked with now, which means the alpha or beta build won't have them. But yah weather is something their definitely concentrating on.
halo3 isnt going to look nowhere near gears.
the BETA means they are testing out the physics and animation for bugs and to tweak area of gameplay...BETA doesnt mean they will be vamping up the graphics. they may have to add lighting etcetc but pretty much what u see is what ull get.
just like lostplanet demo - 8 months later pretty much samething..another example is warhawk - we have seen BETA online videos - do u think that they will improve the graphics soo much more where they will change the great graphics that we have seen to outstanding graphics...answer is noo they wont.
for me halo1 was great - i fell in love - halo2 was a let down because really nothing changed...same cartoony characters..some animations..felt like the same game - weak story...and halo3 is banking on well if this gameplay has been wrking why change it...and that could lead to hurt them..
this is next gen! games like gears have added new cool features (love the behind the camera run) makes u feel like ur actually behind the person...call of duty 4 mod war fare..gives u that feel like ur really there...Killzone2 E3 trailer how u interact with the ppl around u and make u feel like ur there(i know its a movie but im pretty sure the concept will be in the game) - this is what halo3 lacks - when u play it u dont seem drawn into the game due to graphics and same animations over and over
im not saying halo3 sucks or its gonna suck...and i know it will do well but as ppl have been saying - this is suppose to be the king title of MS and it doesnt seem it will live up 2 it - i honestly think gears of war has took its place as the must have title for xbox360
THWIP your such a whiney baby. seriously. trying to convince other's your obviously bias pov. it's halo. i'll take fun-ass gameplay with more options over ground deformation any day. i'm guessing you creamed when you played motorstorm, jerkin off to the physics huh? go write in your dear diary about how halo 3 beta has disappointed all your hopes and dreams. you're lame.
a little bit more, now that you've told me the whole story. Again I can agree that the BETA doesn't have the best graphics in the world, its just that I think we should wait a little bit before SERIOUSLY juding Halo 3. Not that your comment was bad. In fact, I am actually thankfull for your post since it gamers like you who whip developers into shape and make them WORK for those 4 million + copies sold. No Hard feelings, buddy.
As much as people whine about graphics (which are supposed to get better), the likeness to halo 2 (mad about being close to the best selling game in the last decade?), and the lack of new features (despite how we hear about new features every week....), no one will give credit where credit is due. And by that I mean in the 3 weeks of the beta's existance, a demo will have more people playing it at any time than ANY full length game on any console/platform. dont under estimate halo
graphics (well get abit better but nothing mind blowing)
halo2 best selling game < sold 8million - not best vs other consoles - but did place 1st out of games sold by for xbox
halo3 is lacking features - nothing different compared to halo2 beside the laser canon - that ATV - and relics?
nothing to say whoa thats cool...u know
I respect your opinion Thwip but I disagree. I don't think you can say this is how the graphic's will look or that that they won't improve much based on this Beta, and I think the "beta" looks good but this is about testing the gameplay and online, its 5 months away and from the looks of the video it definitely looks like alot of fun. Either way this and many vids that show a less than this one have been all over the web, on youtube, gametrailers and many many more sites....and yet over 4 million people have STILL pre-ordered, I expect thats because they believe Bungie when they say Halo3 will look and most importantly play amazing and know matter how many PS3 fans say they are dissapointed with the "BETA", its not going to change 4 mil+ peoples mind. I'm not saying everyone has to like Halo, its not for everyone but do we really need those same people downplaying it, when they clearly aren't interested in Halo, wonder WHY they are here? GAMERS want to FINISH THE FIGHT!, -lol the Halo3 Train is coming, get on or get ran over! -Forgive my enthusiasm, but fully admit Halo is one of my favorite games EVER.
and we still have months to go for them polish and spit shine the rest. Each new video Halo 3 that pops up just make Sony and Sony fans shake with fear so they come in to hate. This game could allmost be realeased now, can you just imagine what the final build will look like.
I'm sorry to disappoint all those people already disappointed in Halo 3, but Bungie aren't making a game to please your graphical desires. it doesn't matter how much you say about it being the "Bungie" or being Microsoft trump card, or whatever...Bungie are making a game they want to be entertaining, and unlike so many other developers, that comes first and foremost.
I remember playing Halo 2, and thinking "If Halo 3 is exactly like halo 2 but with better graphics, it would rock." And I still think that's true. All of sudden, Gears of War has "raised the bar in graphix and gameplay"...WTF?...Gears has definitely set the bar graphically, but gameplay? What about the fact that it only has 8 enemies on screen at any one time? What about 8 players online? I love Gears, but there is nothing about it gameplay-wise that can't be done a PS2.
You have to remember that Bungie are still showing very little of new gameplay features (weapons, vehicles, e.t.c.). And what if Halo 3 has the same gameplay as Halo 2? Halo 2 is still so much better than many other games out there. And I don't think most of the fans (the ones who actually play the game) want it to be turned into something else. For me, Halo 2 failed because it was departed to much from all the good things from Halo CE: and from what i can see, halo 3 looks like it's bringing them all back.
If you don't like Halo 3, then don't buy it. No-one is forcing you to.
Nah, I disagree with your statement about Gears....remember Gears was designed to be a small squad based tactical shooter, the gameplay is fast and fun, yeah of course not having 100 enimies on the screen at the same time helps the presentation(duh) but at the same time you can't knock a game and all the great things it achieved since it was designed that way....I think "some" look for excuses to discredit Gears because it surpassed everything we had seen before. I say let them fanboys keep crying and looking for excuses, Epic made one hell of a game....either devs surpass it or they don't. That doesn't mean every game, even Halo has to have better graphics but if it looks great graphics wise, has a great story, and provides a overall superior gameplay on and offline then what Gears did then IMO that would still be a better game....the point is the time for talking is over, Gears is out in all its glory, the dev's on both sides now have to deliver.
I agree with the numbers thing. It would actually be ridiculous if Gears had 100 plus locus running at you, because the gameplay is simply not designed for it. I only mentioned that because of people who use to say Gears is boring/is nothing new, are now saying Gears has raised the bar on gameplay, and their only saying that to put down Halo 3. I still believe that Gears of war's single player gameplay could have been done on a PS2.
Ultimately, I think Halo 3 will definatly overshadow Gears, simply because of lag and latency issues, which certainly puts me off the game.
But don't misunderstand me, I'm not hating on Gears, I love the game, and I'm impressed by Halo 3 thus far.
But the simple truth is that gameplay>graphics. That's why Halo 2 is still played like crazy on Live.
And with respect to Gears of War, if it had to handle 16 players, the amount of HUD data, and the sheer amount of scale and weaponry that Halo 3 has even in the Beta, it'd look similar.
Fact is, the game is miles beyond Resistance and Gears in Multiplayer, and for what you get, the graphics are amazing.
wouldn't you, gurilla games doesn't show you anything, we see where halo is at wait untill it comes out mo fos you just are fanboys thats all
people are bagging on Thwip for complaining about Halo 3's graphics. The Halo series is known for having amazing graphics (Halo 2 got damn near perfect scores in that department) and its important to remember that graphics do affect gameplay. When I shoot a rocket at an object/environment, I expect that object/environment to react accordingly, especially with the 'power of next-gen' and whatnot.
Based on Bungie's awesome track record, I'd have to state that they're pushing the 360 hardware as hard as possible, and that it's probably the hardware that's holding them back. That's my take though, and I'm sure a lot of people would argue the opposite. Can't say for certain.
and you'd be hard pressed to find a game that does what it does better.
Halo 3 in it's beta state could never run on a PS3 for instance, just not enough video memory to handle all the different points of display.
Yeha it looks like ramped up halo2 game but then again none of us have seen the sp game in action and thats where bungie said the graphics would be turned up and they also said the sp is very special, now with multiplayer its dfferent, theres so much going on and so much to handle to make sure its fun and the physics are right ad the gameplay is fresh with no lag or slowdown problems, so ill wait until the actua game comes out to judge but having this beta release is a mistake.
why let tons of people play the bets that desnt have all the touches to it, people will jude teh actual gam on the unfinished beta versionand negative remarks will kill it slowly.
an if gears can look so good other games should be ale to also ,especially a monster tile like halo3, you can rant all oyu want but its truly to early to decide on how this game will look like when its done
Gears had the benefit of being a linear corridor shooter, while games like Halo need large maps set out. That requires a huge draw distance, as well as a greater amount of processing.
