Hamsterfist Zombie Games Preview

Article Excerpt:

"It's no secret that Hamsterfist loves Zombies. Zombie movies, zombie books and zombie games, I can't get enough. But how much is too much of a good thing? Well if the product is good, there is no such thing as too much. However there is gluttony of Zombie games heading towards the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and I doubt very much all will be good. Here is a small sample of upcoming zombie games, divided in two different groups. Those that might not be good or even end up getting made and those that are going to be blockbusters or have at least some excitement behind them." (Dead Rising 2, Fort Zombie, Left 4 Dead 2, PC, Possession, PS3, They Hunger: Lost Souls, Xbox 360, Zombie Apocalypse)

In my personal opinion you can never have too many Zombie movies or games, I've been into them since I was a kid, unfortunately I don't think there are enough out so hopefully this will help somewhat!

I'm gutted Left4Dead ain't coming out on the PS3 as that would have been a day one buy for me. I'll be getting Dead Rising 2 though.
I would love to see a really decent open world Zombie game made with something like the Operation Flashpoint 2 engine, the island in that game is 220 square kilometers, so that could make for a genuinely fcuking sh!thot game!

My ideal zombie game is an open world/RPG. Think GTA and Fallout 3, but with zombies. You could level up, and get new abilities. Like wall building (ever seen the original Dawn of the Dead?)or the ability to grow food. The city would start out with a set number of people, and the infection would spread. Your objective would be to survive a set number of hours until the army came and saved you, or kill ALL the zombies. Why isn't someone making this game?!?!?!?!

@DanSolo,
I also suggest that you check out Dead Nation. Maybe it will be the PS3 answer to Left 4 Dead.

Yeh I agree the open world RPG type zombie game would be exactly what I'd like to come out.
What you describe is pretty much along the lines of what I'm thinking when I say using something like the Operation Flashpoint 2 engine to create a large world.

When I was playing Battlefield Bad Company a while back, there was a mission where you are flying along a gorge in a helicopter and I stopped at a couple of deserted places and it immediately sprung to mind how cool it would be once you had established an outpost in the "ultimate zombie game" that you would have to venture out to scavenge supplies, and things like that.

On the Dead Nation bit though... unfortunately I don't think it will be anything like L4D, from the looks of things, it will be very similar to Zombie apocalypse that is coming out soon.
I will still likely get it though lol.

...Getting fed up with zombie games real fast.

I will agree it is too bad that there seems to be so many coming out and yet no one has made the 'ultimate' zombie game. Left 4 Dead is close, but in my opinion an open world environment would be best. More along the lines of the movies.

I cannot wait for Left 4 Dead 2. Screw all you petition people, I am buying that one day one.
