Spider-Man 3 Review

Greg Miller over at IGN had these closing remarks to say when reviewing Spider-Man 3 for the Xbox 360.

"If you're desperate for a Spider-Man game, this one fills your need for webs, but other than nailing what web-swinging should feel like, this game is a bust. We were promised a Spidey experience that was next-gen and expanded on everything Spider-Man 2 did right, but we were given a buggy game that's just Spider-Man 2: Special Edition. Combat is brainless button-mashing, the bosses are frustrating and cheap, the visuals are far from spectacular, and although the random crimes aren't the same events over and over, they definitely re-use the same ideas."

If you aren't phased by his opinion on the game, there is a full three page review on the site.

Another film tie-in bites the dust. Man when can we have games which truly do justice to their big screen counterparts. My personal disappointment started way back when i went and bought E.T. for my atari. 20+ years although not as bad but still average.

Somethign for fanboys to start flamming "The framerate is smoother than on PS3, but things are still unspectacular"

Oh so I see the game is getting about as good a review as the movie is. Sigh. Can today get any worse!? I'm going to see the movie tonight and if it sucks like alot of the reviews say I will be so dissapointed.

How hard can it be to make a good spiderman game? It could be like crackdown except with cool spider abilities and bosses. I just dont understand why that is so hard.

Oh and Chronicals of Riddick was about the only movie based game that I have played that was great but then it didnt really follow the plot of the movie. From what I have heard the Spiderman movie is not any good either but the reasons for the game being bad do not appear to be story related so again I ask, how hard can it be?

Is Spiderman the movie made by Sony?

Why does the 360 version look better and play smoother?

I thought they were showing the ps3 version a little extra love.

I played both version today...360 and ps3 version. I wouldn't have rated it so low myself. Maybe high 7 or low 8. But why does the ps3 have such a problem running this game. The 360 runs it notibly better and the textures/lighting/shadowing looks slightly better on the 360 version of the game.

I just don't understand how can this be? A Sony movie...Playing and looking better as a Next Gen Game on the Microsoft 360.

Can it be true that the ps3 isn't as powerful for next gen games?

The evidence seems to point that why thusfar.

And for those who point to Oblvion and Fight Night....I have played both of those on both systems and the 360 version of Fightnight while missing some new features...looks and plays better than the ps3 version. With Oblvion...while the ps3 version does load notibly faster....The 360 version (with the update) does look better. Then you couple in the Shivering Isles expansion only available for the 360/PC versions...and once again the 360 version clearly comes out on top.

As a Ps3 owner...I just don't get it. Why aren't the ps3 games smashing the 200 dollar less expensive system? And how could Sony fanboys continue to stand by a company that told that the next generation doesn't start until the ps3 launches. Think about it. We all know that was an out right lie. Right?

Anego Montoya you commented below me....Did you play oblvion on the Elite 360 via HDMI and after the patch download? And did you play both the ps3 verison and the 360 version on a True 1080p tv. Because when I say Oblvion looks better on the 360...I'm saying on the same 61 inch 1080p Samsung DLP Tv. I'm saying both via HDMI output....

I have had friends over who I didn't tell which was which and I would switch between one and the other and they all saw that the 360 version looks better than the Ps3 version on the Same Tv using HDMI. Now, I realize its a matter of opinion...But I'm just curious what you base your opinion off of?

oblivion does not look as good for the 360 as the ps3.
as for fight night, i haven`t played it on the ps3.

and finally...
multiplatform dreamcast and playstation2 games looked better on the dreamcast at first.
but that changed quickly.

bouncybullet4238d ago

i'm still going to rent it.

and wow montoya.
oblivion on PS3 came out a year after the 360 version.
thats why it looks better on PS3.
they had a year to polish everything.
and by the way there are other games on 360 that look wayyy better than oblivion.

graphics aren't everything.
i've been playing gamecube games on my wii for that past 2 months.
MGS twin snakes.
RE 1 and 4.
beyond good and evil.
animal crossing.
eternal darkness.

fun stuff.

"Why does the 360 version look better and play smoother?"

Bro the point is that this game sucks on both consoles....and it's not like this games graphic's on either console is any indication of what the 360 or PS3 is capable of since we've seen better on both. -Hey of course comparisons will always be made when multi-platform games are released but why use a game where its clear that the dev's didn't do a great job for either version as a basis to start, the very old and tired "My Dad can beat up your Dad" arguement. -So given how bad the game is on both consoles I would say the answer to your question is simple one; the dev's didn't really give much effort(on either version).

Hm way to take it off track. Yes console war when talking about spiderman three. Nice. A game that is below the standards of both consoles can start a console war, put forward by an argument made from information that nobody but the speaker has the "measured and weighed opinion"...nice. Carry on.
