U.S. puts Canada on piracy watch list

Canada has avoided inclusion on a notorious U.S. blacklist of intellectual property villains, but remains under scrutiny by Washington for failing to ratify Internet treaties and poorly policing movie pirates.

U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab put a dozen countries, including China, on a "priority" watch list Monday for failing to protect American movies, music and software from piracy.

"We must defend ideas, inventions and creativity from rip-off artists and thieves," Ms. Schwab said.

The blacklist is the first step in a process that can lead to sanctions and complaints to the World Trade Organization.

I went to Canada last year to visit some "brothers" and the week i stayed there i learned that piracy in the US has nothing on the piracy in Canada. I don't think i saw a legally purchased item the entire time.
