AMD loses CPU market share

According to recent Mercury Research numbers, global CPU shipments are recovering, and the market has grown 13.8 percent sequentially in Q1, but year-on-year it's still down 2.9 percent.

I used to be AMD guy but damn they have been lagging behind for awhile. After Core 2 Duo I thought AMD will pull of something new but they shot them self. Now I'm an i7 guy...sorry AMD you were not in the game.

yeah AMD has fallen short, for to long.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz, 6MB L2 £148.61
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz, 2MB L2, 6MB L3 £131.66

Bench of both these CPUs side by side

as you can see a Intel dual core is better than an AMD quad.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz, 4MB L2 £104.99
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz, 2MB L2, 6MB L3 £131.66

in this its 50/50 almost but again i would say Intel just edges it.

My Q6600 is clock at 3.6GHz this is default.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.40GHz, 8MB L2 £162.96 (£120 June 2008 purchase date)
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz, 2MB L2, 6MB L3 £131.66

again about 50/50 but AMD just edges it.

AMD need to act fast, ATI is also lagging behind nvidia, with its older SIMD tech.

There's an L3? Is it better than L2?

TABSF3271d ago

L3 is better than L2

the core i9 that are coming this winter will have 16 to 24MB L3 compared to the i7s that only have 8MB L3.

Ahh, i see. Thanks for the info.

If you study about CPU architecture you know L2 is better than L3. In fact Far far better. Producing L2 is much more expensive therefore they opted for L3 which is slower than L2.
