Here's the winner for game of the year from X-Play's G-Phoria awards, the only video game awards show where the winners are determined by the fans.
Fallout 3 was really good, but I would have gone with either Fable 2 or inFamous out of those nominees.
I bought Fallout 3 a few days ago and i am not so imressed so far.I have not gone far and only just left Megaton to look for the radio station,so maybe things will change. But for the moment i prefer Fable 2 because it drew me in immediately.
Damn, you don't like Fallout? That's rough.
I actually wasn't a big fan of Fable 2. I beat the entire game and didn't find it to be anything extraordinary. For something that was boasted for having many things to do, there really wasn't much. That being said, I enjoyed the game and had fun...but it definitley was nothing close to great.
If these are the nominees, then I'd have to go with Fallout 3 as well. Sure, the game had some setbacks to it, but I rather enjoyed the game, thought it was pretty great. To be fair though, I don't own a 360, so I never played Fable II. Gears2--shooters don't do it for me enough to ever be game of the year by my book. KZ2--the same, another shooter, looked great, was fun and all, but at the end of the day it's another shooter. SF IV? I don't know about that. It's a fun game and all, but not even Game of the Year material to me. And Infamous? No chance of being Game of the Year material either. I enjoyed the game, it was alot of fun, but it's much more a 80-range game than some 99/100 Game of the Year (contrary to what some might have you believe).
I thought Fable 2 had more variety than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was really fun for a while, but I got bored of it MUCH quicker than I got bored of Oblivion and Fable 2. The color scheme on the game just didn't do anything for me. I was really sick of the green-tinted brown, really fast. I couldn't fully quantify what it was about the game that had me stopping after 30 hours, but I put more time into both inFamous and Fable 2. And about inFamous being an 80 game and not Game of the Year caliber... well, it all comes down to opinion. I see inFamous as a really well-focused open world action platformer, with some seriously explosive action sequences with sparks and debris flying everywhere. It's just a really fun game for me to explore and blow things up and have a good time, and I liked the story and presentation a lot as well. So, for me, it's one of the best games of this generation
I didn't like Fallout either. It was way too slow paced for me. That being said I wasn't a huge fan of Oblivion either.
Fallout 3 sucked me in immediately, from the great opening until, well, today. I'm still playing it as I haven't cleared it all and I have two more DLCs to go through! I am very happy that they won, yet another award. They deserved it. Despite its numerous flaws, Fallout 3 feels so fleshed out, complete, and deep.
Hey, whatya know, there are still some X-Play viewers out there with a little taste.
Yep, fallout 3 for me too. Fable 2 in a strong second. I am STILL playing fallout 3 to this day, the game is absolutely amazing if you put some time into it. The DLC is great too.
Fallout 3? I mean.....Wow........In my opinion, inFamous>Killzone 2>Fallout 3...I guess I just have bad taste, but I knew a multi platform game would win. Fallout 3 isn't a quality game, its gameplay is its strong point I guess...
I'm not sure how Fallout 3 wasn't a quality game if you're saying it's gameplay carried it. I mean, to me, gameplay is the major factor in making a game good. For me, of those three you named, I think I might actually have to go in reverse order as you. Fallout 3 was better than Killzone 2 which was better than Infamous.
Fallout 3 has more lasting appeal than Infamous and Killzone 2 can shake a dismembered leg shot in V.A.T.S at. If you're a real gamer gameplay should always go before anything else. What do you think makes the game great...graphics? Lol....
Game of the Year 2008 or 2009?
Didn't play all of those but Fallout 3 is an excellent game
Hmm.... No. Fallout 3, along with farcry 2 are the biggest disappointments as far as gameplay/graphics go this gen. My Game of the Year is infamous so far. probably the best game i have played this gen, along with uncharted, GeOW, resistance series and Killzone 2
Excellent choice, though Fallout 3 had it's flaws (and there were many) it was an very great gaming experience that I still play every now and again. Did Gears 2 win anything at all last year? LBP and GTA4 took most GOTY awards and I'm pretty sure Gears didn't really win anything. Neither did Fable II.
