Pistol Confusion

"Okay, just to clear up a small misunderstanding that might come back to bite Bungie (unfairly) in the future... yesterday, we mentioned that halo3.com had been updated with new content about the game, its characters, weapons, story, and so on. One thing that was immediately noticed by many was the description of the pistol (screenshotted, because it will likely change soon) - it was labeled as the M6D (the designation of the Halo 1 pistol) and described as having a 2x scope. Halo3.com is run by Microsoft, not Bungie - and while most of the content is accurate, some is... not so much. Frankie visited online forums yesterday to clarify some of this stuff, but I figure a front-page post might reach a few more people, and maybe keep down expectations and false hopes. The M6D was WAY too powerful. A pistol should not be more powerful than the main assault weapons in any game.

The pistol was my weapon of choice on Halo 1. It did require skill but it would put you down quick! I would have like to have seen it in H3 even if it had 10 rounds of ammo and no extra ammo on the board.

Because it takes real skill to use only the "greatest weapon in the game" continuously in every game.

Skill isn't, for example, NOT using that gun because you think it's cheap, and then killing pistol-users with the other guns. Nooo... that's not skill at all.

Yeh i hated the pistol as well, i only liked it in the single player game of Halo CE but not mutiplayer. Hopefully this pistol is more powerful than the Halo 2 pistol but not too overpowering. Before the update to Halo 2 you could kick ass with dual magnums, but they nerfed up the pistol even more with the update in Halo 2 and they made Halo 2 just BR everything, sure the game was still fun but both Halo 2 and Halo CE shared the same problem, both were not balanced enough and only like 2-3 weapons were used.

Anyways apart from the moan i can't wait for Halo 3. :D

In Halo2 those pistols really sucked. In fact it took two duals to equal the power of the pistol in Halo1. It doesn't necessarily have to be as powerful as the pistol in Halo1, but the scope and accuracy surely won't damage the gameplay for Halo3. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist over at Bungie to balance out the weapon by limiting the available ammo or even reducing the clip capacity. C'mon Bungie, we shouldn't have to figure this one out for you. You guys disappointed alot of fans with the pistols in Halo2, so don't do the same in this round.

^^^ Gee, you'd almost think they implemented some sort of "dual wielding" feature for that exact reason.

One of the best things about a sequel is the new weapons, I hate it when they recycle old stuff, no one is excited about seeing the Battle Rifle again but I can't wait to try out the brute spiker! The same goes with the pistol, scope or no scope, why not add a silencer or even a laser guide. I think a blue laser sight would look well good and would match the LED ammo counter on the assualt rifle.

Also who thinks the shotgun in halo 3 needs a revamp? Perfect Dark Zero's one looks better lol! But then I still cant wait to do my first shotgun beat down on the beta! Also the spike grenades were great in resistance fom hope they are just as good in halo 3.

I agree the Pistol was way overused in H1... Yes its a good gun but like someone said using the "Uberweapon" gets kinda boring after a while... I would just use the Assault Rifle the whole game.. I thought that took more skill then zooming in and shooting a couple shots from pistol and taking them down.. Play on legendary using only the Assault Rifle and tell me that wasnt rewarding.. Before the update on H2 I use to weild BR and as my secondary I would have a pistol.. If I didnt have enough ammo in my br to finish them off.. I would switch to the Magnum and with one clip drop the guy.. Now like you said it is way way underpowered.. The only good it is is during Swat.. Im glad the AR is back but the Pistol Im glad it isnt coming back...

I loved the Halo 1 pistol. I really get tired of the these games giving you a crummy pistol for a starting weapon. Halo CE broke the mould. Using the pistol in Halo CE to me was like "WOW! A pistol you can actually USE!".

None-the-less, I agree in toning it down somewhat for the sake of dualwielding. It would simply be ridiculous dual-wielding those things. Shame Bungie didn't recognise dual wielding as the gimmick that it is, and root it out early.

Now I agree with you urban bohemian I do like to see "new weapons" in sequels, although I do like to have just 1 or 2 of the really good ones from before, I think it helps smooth the transition a bit, but I'm definitely glad they are introducing a new pistol model, I thought the Halo1 version was a little too powerful, but hey I just love new ideas so I can't wait to check out the new pistol.

It is called the M6G, it fires 8 rounds in each clip, it can remain accurate on long distances if your an accurte shooter.

Rate Of fire is still unknown,a swella s it's overall power.

Assuming I am corrct, it will not be as powerfull as the M6D, but it won't be weak like the M6C.
