Boomtown writes: "The first East India Company was created in 1600 in England and by the end of the 17th century most of the major European powers had followed suit. The battle to pillage valuable goods and create powerful empires driven by trade was well and truly underway. The companies enjoyed such strong links with the crown that the line between economic plunder and outright imperialist conquest was distinctly blurry."
