New Zune HD press shots emerge showing black and silver color options, true freedom from ugly

"We've seen our fair share of Microsoft's upcoming Zune HD, but the company just threw together a delightful little photoshoot for its new PMP, with the black and silver versions of the device on display along with a large quantity of attractiveness in both flavors. Most of the shots are variation on a pretty basic theme (and a little small, since these haven't made their way through quite "official" channels just yet), but they do give a good idea of what the UI will look like if you're into the Black Eyed Peas. Check 'em all out below."

although i am not a huge fan of iphones. i prefer divx and mp3 drag and drop. i think ms missed a trick by not putting in a camera AND in particular phone functionality.

likewise sony psp needs a phone and camera one day to hit mass market appeal i.e. appealing to the casual crowd as well as gamers.

i am not dissing the updated psp nor the zune - since they both look like great devices - but i think they both represent missed opportunities when they launch later this year.

without phone functionality i think the zune will remain in the shadows of the iphone.

It's certainly nice but since converging my music/phone i just won't get one.

Wth is with people and making everything a phone? I for one do not want this device to hike in price by $500 (w/o contract) and then force me to go into a stupid $70 phone contract if I want to get it cheaper.

Some devices just don't need to be phones, period.

Is the Zune better than an Ipod touch? I like the idea of being able to have a sort of connection to the 360 like the PSP/PS3 but is it better? I'm thinking of getting one of them so any opinions?

Well with the Zune you get radio and with Zune HD you get HD radio. I would say they are extremely durable, great sound quality and (my favorite feature) easy software. I really prefer it over itunes.

Major_Tom3391d ago

Do you care about the quality of your music?

Do you know what flac or lossless is?

If you don't care or know buy a Zune.

JOLLY13391d ago

I have all track that I rip as lossless. Oh and the track that I purchase from the Zune market place sound better than they do from itunes.

The Zune Hd is going sound great and look great.

Cant wait till release !

Major_Tom3390d ago (Edited 3390d ago )

FLAC is lossless, when you convert it to crappy WMA you're converting; when you CONVERT you lose fidelity.

Same goes for ALAC (Apple Lossless) however atleast you can hack the firmware for Ipod for them to support FLAC. With the zune you're stuck converting it to WMA.

Microsoft didn't even support .wav the most raw form of digital music.

Basically it comes down to this. People who like lossless music and know what EAC, dbpoweramp v0, flac, OGG. APE and LAME are they're not going to pick up the Zune. Seemingly Microsoft forgot to add support to everything except their proprietary crappy WMA and just MP3.

I don't know what their trying to push with the HD ZUNE but it's sure not high fidelity music.

IMO change the name of the device for its true nature, an external HDD capable of HD playback.

@ Cpt. Flac.

There is nothing "crappy" about WMA. Nothing. And, dont come off as "super captain audiophile". We're talking about portable players, with tiny in-ear or otherwise small speakers.

The current generation of Zune is regarded as having some of the best audio quality. nothing is going to change.

If you want "audiophile" sound, listen on your home stereo. FLAC or not, this is going to be a great goddamn player.

Major_Tom3384d ago (Edited 3384d ago )

Yeah tiny speakers right? That's why Grado's and Sennheisers go for $80-600 and when you convert you lose fidelity (I'm referencing WMA as crappy because Msoft didn't even let you use .WAV).

Also talking about the Zune as a great audio player? I own one, I own the white 30GB Zune, and while it is good it's far from the best and can think of Sansa MP3 players that are better. If you mean hardware wise, the iPod still has the Zune beat.

Not to mention Microsoft tried force feeding the community with things it didn't want or need while Apples iPod and various other MP3 players and their respective communities flourished naturally because they chose NOT to lock down the firmware.

"I'm thinking of getting one of them so any opinions?"

Funny, how you contradict yourself in this earlier post.
