There has been a lot of funny side-effects to this whole economic crisis thing. It is amazing what creative (and thoroughly selfish) ideas companies can come up with when they're backed into a corner and it is every corporation for itself. From a publisher's point of view, it has often become about making as much money on the game before it is released as possible – to take the unpredictability of retail and the pain of piracy out of the equation. This may manifest in the form of console exclusivity deals, tactical DLC strategies, in-game advertising, dual-branding agreements (like The Beatles Rock Band) and retail exclusivity deals.
How should we as the consumer feel about such wheeling and dealing?
