IGN: Cheers and Tears: PC Strategy Games

Strategy is one of the oldest and most durable genres in the history of video games. Originally just simple adaptations of tabletop games, they've evolved to become so much more, developing their own innovative design concepts and embracing unique presentation styles that are worlds away from early classics like Dune II and Reach for the Stars. Even as other genres have been stripped and simplified to better suit the console market, strategy games remain one of the genres most unashamedly suited to the PC platform.

Since the PC has such a rich history of strategy games, IGN decided to take a look at the best and worst the genre has offered us over the last five years.
