What the hell happened to 2009?

GamesRadar writes:

"Back in January of this year, we switched on our doom-and-gloom machine and predicted which of 2009's most anticipated titles would inevitably be pushed back to 2010. We didn't want to be right. In fact, we spent the next six months wishing, hoping and praying that the industry would prove us wrong.

It didn't. Every game on that list has now either been delayed, heavily rumored as delayed, publicized so little that we can only assume it's delayed or, in one special case, cancelled altogether. But that was just the beginning. Over the past few weeks, we've watched in horror and guilt as more than a dozen additional titles – including some very heavy hitters we never would've predicted – were sent scurrying into the next decade as well.

Here, then, is the damage… the tattered remnants of what 2009 could have been. We'll mourn each lost game and try to give you some perspective on why the release date had to change. Then, we'll dry your bitter tears with an optimistic look at the stuff that's still left."

2009s been great so far. At least for me.

Killzone 2
Infamous
Street Fighter IV
Resident Evil 5
Red Faction
Ghostbusters
MLB 09

And you've still got:

Uncharted 2
Halo ODST
GTA DLC Disk
Assassin's Creed 2
Rachet and Clank
Dragon Age: Origins
COD MW2
Brutal Legends

As some one who works full time, I appreciate the fact that not everything is releasing at once. Heck, I was still playing some late 2008 releases until Killzone 2 dropped.

2009 has been Delayed to 2010!

RememberThe3575372d ago

Anyone else realize that every year seems better then the last. Being a gamer right now is freakin awesome.

Acidicpack5372d ago

The games I'm most excited about this year are as follows.

Uncharted 2

Dragon Age: Origins

Assassins Creed 2

Halo ODST

Border Lands

And it sucks that Demon Souls got delayed. I was really looking forward to playing it this year. The PS3 needs some good JRPG love.

What happened?

Well it got to crowded so the devs thought it would be a nicety to delay some games in order to absorb whats still to come this winter.

Least that's how I like to look at it. I'm going to take my sweet time with Assassins Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, MW2, Brutal Legend, Dragons Age, and Uncharted 2.

Let me know if I missed any. =P

G3TDOWN5372d ago

When did Bayonetta and Dark Void get delayed?

Mo0eY5372d ago

Dark Void a day or so ago. Bayonetta was last week.

naiku5372d ago

people stop whining over delayed games! games are not delayed just because to get people angry. the biggest reason is that developers dont have enough time to finish the product that they want to serve it to us and the 2nd reason is because if he all the games that were scheduled to come in that holiday season, the sales for some games would be low, because this year is ridiculous even with the delayed games. idk where im gonna get the money to buy all the games i want.

RememberThe3575372d ago

I want quality games, if that mean 3 months from now or 6, doesn't really make a difference to me.

And even though I rent most games, I still am searching for ways to get all the games I want. Uncharted 2, ODST, Rachet, Brutal Legends, Assassin's Creed 2, GT PSP, AC: Bloodlines, Dragon Age, Tekkon 6.

And those are just the game I want to buy. I'm buying MW2 used, F U Activition...

cranium5372d ago

I'm only getting Uncharted 2, R&C and Assassin's Creed 2. I would get Scribblenauts if I hadn't lost my DS charger and L4D2 if I had a 360.

Moder Warfare 2 Happen.

"Modern Warfare 2" or "Crowded Fall Lineup" is the new "Difficult Console Transition" excuse for many PR Departments.

Whilst i agree that having games come out at the righ ttime to avoid the flock it's a sad state that there's never not going to be a COD coming out before christmas, meaning that there's just never going to be a good spot left for the rest of the industry just before christmas with that title coming out.

I feel sorry for borderlands already, despite being a very different title from COD it's going to lose a lot of interested parties because of the similarity. I hope they do the sensible thing and re-release it later with DLC included.

Is the industry really hitting a critical mass for having multiple million sellers coming out at a rush period?

If they'd just cut the RRP in half then maybe the world would be a better place.

Milkman5415372d ago

We haven't even made it to the fall yet...

What happened to 2009? Nothing happened, a few games got delayed, we still got a lot of great titles and there is still a lot yet to come...

Tales Of Graces Ƒ Retro Review – Holding Out For a Hero

Gary Green said: Namco Bandai heard the call of many fans asking for the PlayStation release of Tales of Graces which was originally released seemingly exclusively for the Wii back in 2009. If you’re acquainted with the Tales series then Graces f won’t be something entirely new to you, yet if you’re a newcomer then you’ll find a plethora of gameplay mechanics and nuances that distinguish this series from other JRPGs. While the game finds itself following the traditional archetype of JRPGs, such as a somewhat clichéd story, Graces has something to offer to both veterans and newcomers alike.
