Sony Computer Entertainment's inFAMOUS Playstation 3 game will begin its journey into a feature in the hands of screenwriter Sheldon Turner.
Wow. First Uncharted, now inFamous? Sony must love being awesome. I could see inFamous being a big hit if it is being produced by the same producers who did the new Hulk and Iron Man movies.
Don't forget about Shadow of the Colossus - Gullermo Del Toro is considering doing that after The Hobbit. I think Sony has the right idea - if anyone they can produce the first successful game-film adaptation, its gotta be them. Games like WoW, GeoW, and Halo on the other hand have weak cinematic qualities. If it wasn't for the fact that they sold millions they would never be considered for adapatations. I'm sure any week now we'll COD will get a green light, and people will start praising that game as well "yeah COD would make an excellent movie" NOT.
Sheldon Turner is also the writer for X-Men Origins: Magneto. So I guess we'll see if he's up for the job when that releases in 2011.
Sony really need to stop making good games into films.
Oh joy! Sounds like such a good choice for Sony to choose Sheldon Turner to pen the script for a movie based on one of the best games of 2009! Hell yeah! And look at that, he even wrote the modern version of The Longest Yard. Man. Everything about this project just sounds so promising already :D
I'm sure everyone on N4g know more about producing and making movies that Sony. /sarcasm
I think the games to movies thing is getting out of hand nowadays. Make movies with story-oriented games like Bioshock and MGS. That's ok. But making a movie on Infamous seems like some kind of forced publicity
BoX Office Smash Unlike Gears which will be a Bigger Flop than Hudson Hawk or Waterworld
I agree mumts. Unlike gears of bore Uncharted and inFAMOUS actually have a well thought out story. Mindless cursing and gore won't attract anyone else but delusional 12 yr old xboxlive infants.
Hey waterworld was AWESOME man.. i loved that movie.
Sony is definately on the ball with these AAA game based movies. If done properly Uncharted and inFAMOUS could very well own the theaters.
i hope they use jason statham aka crank
I hope you are joking...although looking at your bubble count, probably not.
Fair enough to convert established game franchises into films but an new IP that didnt even sell that well? WHY???
I reckon inFAMOUS will reach the 1 million mark by the end of the year, but regardless of sales, the game lends itself quite well to a movie translation.
it sold just fine and i would rather have this then yet another shooter turned into a limp film
Water world wasnt an actual flop in terms of box office receipts, its just that it cost that damn much to make it never had any hope of making any profit
i can see this being as epic as spider-man if done right and uncharted could be this generation's indiana jones
Dunno dude, IMO only first Spiderman was ok. The rest kinda sucked for me.
If there were any sharp implements in the theater during Spiderman 3, I would have killed myself. That movie was terrible. Lose the song and dance and pick one villain and stick to it for fvcks sake.
Spider-man 2 was awesome. If inFamous was done in the same way as that movie it would be great. Spider-man 2 undoubtedly had the best action sequences (Do not deny that, the train fight between Spidey and Doc Ock was unreal), it also showed perfectly well how hard being two people at once was for Peter Parker and how his alter-ego was ruining his relationships with Harry and MJ. If inFamous was done like that, we would have another perfect super-hero movie.
It is the fastest selling new ip for sony. It is selling excellently.
But will the movie have Cole as 'good' or 'evil'? They'll probably gloss over that aspect entirely... The game has such a great story to start with (loved the twist at the end) that I can't help but think the movie will bugger it up.
it would probably be a balance or a blend of good and evil to describe the choices vs consiquences of his actions... i personally think that if sony is accually behind it then it will do just fine.
There have been a few movies that have tried to show the consequences of different choices (e.g. "Sliding Doors", "Groundhog Day") but the medium has severe limitations for telling that kind of story. I can't see how they could make that aspect work... though I'm not a big-time Hollywood scriptwriter, either. I wonder if concepts either make good games or good movies, but not both? Certainly there have been few if any really good movie-to-game or game-to-movie transitions.
Well...he's already kind of both... I don't want to ruin the ending, but they can show him as both good and evil, and show the effects that all of his choices have on Empire City. They could also have him ruthlessly kill some people in a rage. Hopefully he'll be killing a lot of people (please don't Disney this movie), but killing a few innocent people would show the effects of giving someone powers like that. So basically he'll be both. If there is any hope for this movie they'll realize there is no such thing as all good or all bad.
Well Sony does own Paramount and Tristar so they can get things done in the movie biz. inFamous will work as a movie but they only thing similar to the game will be Cole having powers, Zeek being a dumbass, Trish being a b1tch and Kessler afterthe ray sphere. None of the gameplay and sideissions will show up
They might pull something similar to the butterfly affect?
So is Cole gonna be a Hero or Infamous?
i hate when they make movies out of games if the movie is not good it disgraces the the game. if they are making game movies they should make it like Beowolf. i believe its called CGI
but great to hear that Sony will be funding the movie but i think Zack Snyder would be the perfect choice for inFAMOUS movie he already has experience with comic super hero movies he did direct Watchmen and it was a really good movie if there's any director capable of making a good movie adaptation of inFAMOUS it's Zack Snyder
Those who finished the game already know 1 hell of a spolier! I hope the ride will be enjoyable.
Brothers Avi and Ari Arad, who have collaborated on The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man, are on board to produce.
There goes inFAMOUS another victim to the "videogame to film" curse.
i can't wait to see that infamous movie in 2012
