That sound you're hearing is your hopes of a $299 HD DVD player anytime in the immediate future deflating, that is, if Fuh Yuan is to be believed this time around.
Here is the quote from the Fuh Yuan site:
"We are sorry to correct the statement that we have two million HD-DVD players order from Wal-Mart and manufactured by China Great Wall Group. The actuality is that we had not received yet. We are asked to provide the schedule to Wal-Mart and cost to determine the quantity even more than two million, if the cost is good enough and timing is correct. So the capacity is under consideration. Any qualified manufactured base group will be welcome."
But, I thought it was common sense anyway. So its coming...we just don't know when yet. Interesting Indeed.
So apparently Wal-Mart did look into HD-DVD.
Questions for me are:
Is Wal-Mart still interested?
When will it come to market and how many?
Whats the price point?
Could they make a dual format cheaply?
It seems as Sony fanboys will still going to walk around with their finger crossed... that wallmart does not go ahead with this deal. It's obvious that they are looking into it. That alone means something.
Your fixation is bordering on obsession.
I agree. Might have decided the format war sooner than expected if it went through. Or then again, it might have opened up a whole new can.
If not from this manufacturer, definitely from another. And it will be good, as this will drive the price of mainstream HD-DVD, Blu-Ray players at a more appreciable levels, so average consumers get to afford this sort of new technology.
