Koku Gamer writes: "Released by Epyx for the Commodore 64 and now available on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console, California Games is a collection of six sports mini-games that players compete in for a high score. Players can choose from half-pipe, freestyle foot bag, surfing, Frisbee, roller skating and BMX racing. Think of it like a precursor to Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Extremely popular for its time, California Games was eventually ported to multiple platforms including the Atari ST, Sega Master System, Apple II, Amiga and the original Nintendo Entertainment System. It's popularity on the NES also made it the focus of an episode of everyone's favorite Saturday morning cartoon, Captain N: The Game Master." 7/10
I enjoyed the review but like the guy said, "It's mostly for people who like party games."
That and I don't see too many kids getting into it because of the old school graphics and gameplay. "But it's not Halo 3!" they'll exclaim.
Man...this takes me WAY back. I used to have Cali games, Winter games, World games, and both Summer games. Man, I spent many an hour trying to set and beat records on those things. My favorite sport on this one was the surfing. That was just pure entertainment!!! *LOL* Mindless enjoyment for all!!!
