TGS: Wii Sports Resort Review

That Gaming Site writes: "First impressions are important, especially when it comes to introducing a new piece of hardware. Bundled with the Wii everywhere outside of Japan, Nintendo have estimated that over 45 million copies of Wii Sports are floating around, a game that I imagine for most Wii owners was the first game to introduce them to the Wii hardware. Wii Sports Resort doesn't introduce itself in a casual manner. Instead your trip to the games aptly named Wuhu Island starts with a leap into the sky. Here you have the chance to meet Nintendo's newest piece of tech Wii Motion Plus, which as you'll see offers flawless accuracy as you twist your character around hundreds of feet in the skies above Wuhu Island."

It's good to see WMP is actually making a difference, will be interesting to see how developers use it in future games.

Ziriux5392d ago

It's all a gimmick as always. The wii does away good with gimmicks though, as it's not hard to convince the casual and parents into believing something works so well.

raiden_935392d ago

It actually works pretty damn well. There's a lot of recalibration involved which is hopefully something Sony's Motion Tech will be void of, but otherwise its a pretty solid accessory.

Ziriux5392d ago

Not sure how well this one will do since it's not bundled with the console and I don't think the first one made people go whoaaa enough to buy a stand alone sequel.

Elven65392d ago

The other bundle they did with Wii Play is doing extremely well so as long as Nintendo makes a effort to tell people something is included with the game it should do well. Besides, they just need to put out a cheesy ad and the moms will eat it up.

raiden_935392d ago

If Nintendo market this the same way they have done with their other products then there's no reason why it shouldn't be a success for them. Given there is no physical benefit such as weight loss, it's out in time for Summer and parents will buy this just to keep their kids entertained. It should really come with two Motion Plus accessories though.

Skivvo5392d ago

I have to admit I nearly bought this the other day on impulse but then I remembered I hate my Wii because of the motion control. I have to agree with Ziriux in that it should be bundled with the console but I suppose it's good to see they're improving their product.

Ziriux5392d ago

Yea but most people already have a Wii bundling it with the console won't do Nintendo any good in any way.

raiden_935392d ago

Sorry I don't mean to cause offence to you but...

1)As far as I'm aware, Wii sports Resort isn't out anywhere outside of Japan until later this month so to say you nearly bought this the other day can't be true unless you were refering to the Motion Plus accessory and if so I apologise.

2) If you don't like the Wii because of motion control then why did you buy one? You must have known motion control was a big part of the Wii before you bought one?

Again, not meaning to piss you off just curious.

I have spoken to the guy and can somewhat speak for him. He does not live in the US nor Europe, also speaking to him, he loves the Wii for it's WiiWare and Virtual console, since he is a fan boy of the older retro titles and is missing all the consoles he thought the Wii was the best option.

raiden_935392d ago

Completely understand, I do agree that the Wii is a great system for downloading retro titles, I just wish they added more N64 releases via the Virtual Console as we tend to only get one every couple of months.

Because we all miss accidentally throwing our Wiimotes at the TV, so let's throw some Joy-Cons.

VR is the same way, wrist straps for a reason.

I loved the golf from Wii Sports Resort.

I was always confused by Nintendo’s decision to kill the franchise. “Super” stayed with Mario titles even after the Super Nintendo. They can still use the Wii name. Hell it’s been so long that releasing a new one, or even an HD remaster, will tap into that nostalgia market.

DazaMc831d ago

Super Mario launched on the NES not the Super NES.

septemberindecember831d ago

Super was never because of the Super Nintendo. Super Mario Bros launched on the NES. The Super is because it's an indirect sequel to Mario Bros.

They can just call it Nintendo Sports or something, but using the Wii name would be a bit confusing.

Bigman4k831d ago

Yeah i agree but i don't think Nintendo will be bringing wii sports to the Nintendo Switch samething goes for diddykong racing
