Mike Got Game observed that his friends who own an Xbox 360 called the console's hardware failures as "3RL" while other gamers call it the "Red Rings of Death." So which is it really? Find out what the correct term is and weigh in on the discussion.
The whole Article is Crap and There isnt a bit of So Called ''news'' In it. This a Blog rent talking about how he only own a PS3 and his friends xbox360 and they use the Term ''3RL''(3 red Lights) instead of RRod. and WTF @ this line '' So call it for what it really is: Red Ring of Death. When it happens to your Xbox 360 (and it WILL happen to your Xbox 360)'' I've had my xbox ever since the launch and I never had any problems with it and my close friends who also own a Xbox360 never had any problem with theirs to. if you get the rrod you probably will get it within the 3year warranty and if you do you get it repaired for free and get a new console + another 3year. If you dont get it after 3year you probably wont ever get it. This article is not to be approved.
Why not this one? Look, I have had 5 Xbox 360's, 4 of which went bad for various reasons. Two RROD'd, one scratched the crap out of two games and one where the console would not read discs. My fifth one has worked great so yeah, there is the luck of the draw when it comes to 360's. Heck, I have had 8 of my friends/clan members go through no less than 2 of these consoles. The worst part of it is that the console has too many great games to stop buying the darn things but in the end, the facts are real and there was and in some cases still is a problem with the hardware. I don't see that to be a reason why an article like this can't be approved...
I Dont see why this should be Approved because There is NO NEWS in that Article. Rrod or 3RL? They're the Same Thing! The 3RL term is only used by a small amount of people . Is that Gaming News to you? wtf.
It's not written up as news... It's an article.
Still the site is Called News for Gamers. There should be The Least of News or Interesting stuff in a Posted Article or news.
There are more forms of submissions that just news. Your argument is flawed in that yeah, the title of the site is about news but there are other articles submitted on a daily basis and the site allows them. You cannot discredit it if they at least put it the right category. It's not like we have not seen these types of articles before and quite honestly, I have actually seen worse.
Theres been a lot of good 360 news since E3 while some other consoles seem to be left out. Looks like some people just couldnt take it anymore. More than useless article.
You aren't new to N4G are you?? And your avatar goes nicely with your ranting.
When you get a repaired console back from MS the warranty is for the remainder of the three years or 90 days, whichever is longer. Oh yeah, this "article" sucks.
woow people can get real low
You can call me all the names you want but my comment history will tell others differently. I have nothing to hide and I certainly won't stoop to name calling. I will however say that despite this being a blog or some article written by some fanboy (if that's what you want to call it) it is still no less worthy of being posted here on N4G than the hundreds of other articles that were bashing of any other console. And on a side note, it is fun to watch you get your panties all bunched up over a silly console war. You need to lighten up a bit and let the little things go.
The best and easiest way to name it is by how many lights it's displaying/showing a) 3RLOD ~ 3 Red Lights of Death or general hardware failure b) 1RLOD ~ 1 Red Light of Death/E74 or a general hardware failure The term RROD (Red Ring of Death) was originally coined for the 1st Xbox (also known as Christmas Lights) when it failed, since the WHOLE RING would light up around the power button. The term made it's way to the 360 very easily because there is a "Ring" but made up of 4 quadrants but it's still incorrect nonetheless to call the 360's issue a "Ring" because it never fully encompasses all 4 areas making a "Ring". Simply, if it doesn't make a circle than it cannot be called a ring. So RROD is an incorrect term for the 360. But in reality it's all just semantics anyway...it still failed and that what "RROD" represents. A Failure.
no matter what xbox 360 is a piece of chit
'O.n.T.A' i.e - 'Oh, not This AGAIN!!!' ;-D
Let's just all call it one of the biggest technical failures of the 2000's and move on. K?
I agree but more than 30 million owners have already moved already and enjoying the best console of this gen.
always be suspect. There maybe 30 million xbox 360 out their, but not 30 million individual owners, same can be said about all systems.
How many of those 30mil are replacements. Everyone seems very quiet about that. I cant disagree they really penetrated the market with their console. But BEST? Sorry I have to respectfully disagree.
"How many of those 30mil are replacements. Everyone seems very quiet about that." I wont be answering that because that would be treating you like a retard. i know youre a hardcore Sony fanboy but only the dumbest Sony fanboys beleive that theory. @maxpower , yeah I bet theres only 50 million PS2's, 25 million Wii's and 15 million 360's and 10 milion PS3's out there. The whole video game business s A LOT smaller than we think (end sarcasm) @PENNYWISE: man if MSFT's numbers are inflated then geez Sony's PS3 is performing a whole lot worse than we can ever imagine concerning software sales...
La Chance, why thanks for not thinking of me being retarded. lol But - I do believe those numbers are inflated. Especially from the retailers where people trade broken systems back in and then Best Buy has to ship it back to MS. But hey, I could be completely wrong... but I have never seen MS deny it.
No matter which way you describe it, it's a universal fact that Xbox 360 is the most unreliable piece of garbage to ever be manufactured. Xbox 360's failure rate is well above 90% and can even achieve the impossible feat of being over 100%. Microsoft's platform should have been ceased in 2005 and it will not be long until the Better Buisness Bureau shut's the Xbox division down completely. If you want to experience immediate, unique and immersive interactivity, then look no further than PLAYSTATION®3. Only PLAYSTATION®3 provides the consumer with a wide array of AAA titles from every genre, giving you the most complete experience out of the competing consoles. Not only that, you're insured to up to at least one decade of quality software and hardware reliability which makes for the safe bet on your wallet. Just like a legal prostitute in Las Vegas, Xbox 360 is only good for the quick fix. If you're seeking longevity and security, do yourself a favor and purchase a PLAYSTATION®3. $niper
It’s nice to see someone who’s open-minded about the matter. @Natsu X FairyTail The entry is categorized as an “article,” which falls squarely in the realm of commentary by N4G’s standards. Commentary means expression of one’s OPINION. It’s healthy to disagree. It’s not healthy to spew vitriol. Get over yourself.
you're worse than HipHopGamer, which is pretty dam bad considering he's worse than Nasim.
I agree with Syronicus and mikegotgame so, stop b!tching about it. It's not like the world is going to end, you're to defensive.
nice banner...haha. must be that time of the day where crappy aticles from sony sites starts to show up. im waiting for the sony doomsday one. how does one take this site and article serious is beyond me.
all the above are fa!s
As long as the problems get fixed? Call it Happy Go Fun Bunny Time Error, I don't care. It doesn't change the problem and it sure as heck doesn't help get it fixed.
It was once a news for gamers and has changed. It should be changed to opinions of Fanboys. Considering most of the articles bash one of the consoles to start flame wars. The opinions are so bias and most have false information in them that they aren't worth reading. The new url should be www.oof.com
...for entertainment purposes only :)
Fanboy's make this site N4G Without them it be boring Some Fanboy's are just bad at there job lol
i have been though 3 systems.. :( but i still prefer my 360 over my ps3 anyday.. i like online gaming..psn just doesn't cut it these days
HAHAHA you sound like a wife thats been beaten.. "He only does it cause he loves me" "I was outta line".. Come on.. 3 times? and you still pay for online? You might as well just throw your money in the trash can.. Or hey give it to me.. Ill make a smart investment with it EDIT: Actually you are.. For one.. Paying for online Multiplayer.. Is throwing money away.. 2. As long as you dont have your system (for it being fixed or replaced).. That money your spending on online multiplayer isnt being put to use.. So yes you are wasteing money
I agree. I'm on my 3 or 4th? Lol I can't even remember. @levdog no one is throwing away money when it's fixed for free.
This site allows for users to submit a few different types of links. Articles, rumors, news, etc. It might be on News 4 Gamers but it might not necessarily be news.
My bud's had his 360 ever since launch..and he has never gotten RROD. Well maybe some disc jamming and discs not being read, but no RROD.
My launch 360 didn't overheat, my DVD drive broke and wouldn't spin the discs any longer.
Yeah Luckily his isn't getting that either, and we're still able to play games on it fine. With a few hiccups maybe, but still fine.
yea only like 3000 ppl in the world got that. compare that to 20 000 000 360s
Anyway you look at it or say it.. It still shouldnt happen as frequent as it does.. Electronics will always have their problems dont get me wrong.. but to have the 3RL or RROD happen as often as it does is just unacceptable.. My friend signed on PSN last night and his header said.. Life with RROD.. I asked him about it.. and he said his 360 rrod on him.. So thats 4 friends with 360 and 4 RRODs.. Being a PS3 owner I just laugh at them.. but its seriously got to be annoying dealing with that
as when I had 3 ps1's and 3 ps2's. I am on my second 360 so I havent' been as affected as some people. It was kind of nice actually, I had an extended best buy warranty, so my launch system died, and I got a new one. My first ps1 died and I got a new one for free, the other one I had to pay 75 bucks. None of my ps2's were still under warranty, so that cost me a bunch. My ps3 thank God has been just fine sine I bought it 4 months ago. So every company has had some probs, I don't know anyone who had a prob with the first xbox. So the next gen we will see if msoft learned its lesson. It looks like Sony learned theres.
awwww man this had to come up when i want to buy a xbox 360 elite in october and get halo 3 odst now im going to need some tough ass reasurance
Dude you're in the clear tbh. All the chipsets from now on are 65Nm GPU/CPU. I bought a new arcade last year and it 65nm CPU/95nm GPU and it's VERY cool. I'm sure the new ones run really really cool, plus you can install games to the HDD. Also on the off chance it DID break, it's a 3 year warranty, you wouldn't be screwed.
thanks dude that was some tough ass reasurance i needed now i can look forward to getting it again
Let me tell you about my experiences with 360 models... My first Pro was LOUD, ran BLAZINGLY hot, and died after a few months. Same with its successors. My Elite, which had the Falcon hardware revision, has been flawless, but the DVD drive is a bit loud. So I just do game installs on the titles I play the most. My Arcade (Jasper chipset), purchased for the family, is silent and runs very cool. You barely know it's on. I think a 360 is now a much safer investment than it was a couple of years ago. To be safe, an extended warranty or replacement plan is a good idea.
They want their article back. Seriously, RRoD is still relevant? i must be one of the few (which I am) i've had my Xbox since LAUNCH. And NO RRoD! *(furiously knocks on wood!)*
So, I've had 2 360's, first was about a year after launch. I thought I'd wait and make sure the inevitable kinks got worked out - all launch consoles have issues. If you've been a gamer for last while, you realize being an earlier adopter has it's risks. Don't matter whether it's Sony or MS...even Nintendo isn't perfect out of the gate. The machine was too loud and when the HDMI version came out (what was MS thinking to begin with...), I traded in for an Arcade (I kept my original HDD...which I've since upgraded to 120GB)....anyhow, I got the RROD! I was pissed, shocked and supremely annoyed - I play games a lot, my downtime is generally reserved for gaming. I sent it in for repair...it was covered under the 3yr warranty. Took 6 weeks to get back to me!!!!!! WTF!!! -sent to repair centre in the same city I live in! -I waited 2 weeeks before calling -they lost the console at the repair depot -they insisted they could find it -they sent me a refurb -it got locked in the UPS when out for delivery - the guy locked his keys in the truck, had to wait until next day. So far the 360 is quieter than even the arcade HDMI I sent in and now I refuse to play any games from the drive - I immediately copy to the HDD...though in the back of my mind, I know it makes little difference...still hella hot! Next, PS3 Had my PS3 since December 08...play it far more than the 360 these days. Last Wednesday, the Blu-ray laser/drive stopped reading Blu-rays. Everything else was fine...a search on google tells me it's a common error...though PS3 error rate is very low. OK, -Call Sony to set up repair via 1yr warranty. -Purolator arrives next day -arrives at Whitby service centre same day -Service centre repairs and sends back on the next day -weekend screws me! LOL -I now have my PS3 back and working perfectly. So...just personal experience here. ----Oh and my 50" DLP LCD died Friday...the bulb blew. WTF!!!!! Had the bulb replaced Saturday. $205 bucks later!!!! Sure I could've gotten it cheaper online...but I can't wait, as I said...I play a lot of games. LOL
33% failure rate is actually pretty impressive, as I don't think any console in the future will reach this legendary status.
maybe the xbox 720 XD
Will reach that legendary status. And Surpass it by another 33% at least
Funny this is Nelson, we all know there will be an Xbox "720". Will Sony even continue to make another PS console after the loss it has taken this gen?
Strange! mine still works and I've had it from launch. I don't turn it on much. I'm scared to, in case it breaks so i leave it for exclusives only.
I can see that N4G crap filter is not working.
I think that's just a ruse so the N4G admins/mods can say they're doing something.
Obviously... Your posts are still making it through.
Red Ring of Death is pretty good. It's a typical Microsoft term, such as Blue Screen of Death.
I am on my 3rd 360....besides the drive sounding like a jet taking off. I call it the TMSFU (The MS F Up)
Any suggestions, i want to to purchase a 360, should i go pro or arcade or elite? It's just these articles put me off, i suppose any publicity is good publicity.
go for the Elite. If you dont feel like spending that much buy a pro and Upgrade your HDD in the future . thats what I did.
If you really want a Xbox 360 pick the Pro or the Elite Because of the HDD Pro is what now 60GB and the Elite is 120GB The difference between the Pro and Elite is that Elite has a HDMI cable and a bigger HDD http://www.xbox.com/en-US/h...
make sure the manufacture date is oct 2008 and above .... picking up an arcade unit would give you the jasper board which is the most reliable one ... with better heat sync for the gpu compared to the falcons in the pro and elite... and also make sure to have warranty ... that is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing ... keep your reciept and warranty intact ... that way you can game and not have to worry about repair issues ... best of luck man ... its worth it when you have all these things in check
"The World's Greatest Invention Ever The RRoD"
With people gobbling up the Halo craze/fad you would have to wonder if MS created the RROD on purpose.
but man why would they do that ... when they get law suites, a bad rep and lose a billion dollars on free repair ?
It happens with companies everyday and we may never know about it.
i had a 2006 launch unit for a year and a half and it started getting these disc read errors... it just stopped reading discs ... recently i picked up an arcade unit .. and i can say that there is a huge difference between a consoles from 2006 (mine had a manu date of oct 2006) and one from 2009 (manu date is feb 2009) ... the (ghostbusters ghost catcher) power box is much lighter and doesnt have a fan in the new models like the 2006 models.. and uses 150 W compared to 175 W from launch models... the 2009 model comes with a benq drive i think which is really about 90% more quiter than the 2006 samsung drive i had... which is noticible right off the bat the heat sync on the jasper board is much better .. the gpu's have a 65 nm compared to 90 nm from the falcon and xenon boards... this obviously reduces power consumption (thats why the power box is lighter) and produces less heat (meaning its much cooler than the launch model) actually you dont need numbers to notice that ... me having been with the launch model since 2007 i can say that the heating difference is really noticible... THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU SHOULD DO IS KEEP A PROOF OF PURCHASE AND WARRANTY CARD INTACT
i always read how some people have gone through 5 or 6 360's and i call that a lie either you a stupid dumb ass to keep investing in it or your flat out lying... ive only had the rrod once since i bought my console at launch.
i know man .. buying 5 or 6 consoles is just crazy ... i never understood that .... my first one died coz of disc read errors but i had no warranty for that or proof of purchase... i just didnt care enough to keep those ... eventually i bought an arcade, but now i've learned that keeping the proof of purchase and warranty card is the most imp thing you can do ... u'd think people would realize the same on their 3rd or even fourth buy ...
