The top five best-selling video game systems so far in Japan during the first-half of 2009, according to Enterbrain and Famitsu.
1. Nintendo DS - 1,621,939 2. PSP - 1,177,511 3. Nintendo Wii - 639,788 4. Playstation 3 - 552,601 5. Xbox 360 - 214,221 Wow DS kiked everyone's behind. PS2 is gone and the HD consoles 4th and 5th. Wonder what happened to 120 +Million Ps1/PS2 owners? As i mentioned in some other thread, Japan is moving towards the handhelds specially the younger generation who are addicted to texting or playing on the go. So this market does not count much towards the overall sales of the next gen consoles. Edit: Yep at #2. I was just updating my comment and u also said the same.
I think what people are missing from this is how 1/4 of the xbox360's total sales (in japan) came from just half a years worth of sales. :S First Half 2009 Xbox 360 - 214,221 Total Xbox 360 Sales in Japan Xbox 360 - 1,080,388
Because the Wii eventually outsold the PS3 for the first 6 months of this year, though the PS3 started off kicking ass? 'Cause back then, Japanese sales seemed as if they were actually the most important or something.
Exactly !! why do people make such a big deal out of Japan sales when they are insignificant compared to other territories (like UK/US etc).
Or the rest of the world. Sales dont make a great gaming experience, do they ?
Because despite these sales figures, Japan plays an important role in the whole industry. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to pure Sales, I agree that Japan's impact is overblown by the media, but 2 of the big 3 come from Japan, so Japan will always have a large influence on the market as a whole.
At #2: Sales aren't relevant no matter where they're made. As far as I'm concerned, as long as my console has games I want, I'm happy. I don't care if another console is outselling mine...
"Exactly !! why do people make such a big deal out of Japan sales when they are insignificant compared to other territories (like UK/US etc)." Ironic, don't you think, considering 4 out of those 5 machines are Japanese. Not to mention that because of Japan, the Playstation 3 is balanced out per year worldwide with the 360.
HANDHELD - JAPS going nuts for these 1. Nintendo DS - 1,621,939 2. PSP - 1,177,511 THE TOY 3. Nintendo Wii - 639,788 THE HD Consoles: 4. Playstation 3 - 552,601 5. Xbox 360 - 214,221 Bu bu but teh ps3 is kicking 360 in japan..
I'm betting you was one of the first to preach about the Xbox selling 2:1 against the PS3 in the UK. Irony.
Hey Einstein, "Japs" is considered by most people a highly derogatory term.
NDS sells so much! how come miyamato isnt trying to bring us SSB on NDS???????
There's so many people who want that but it wouldn't be Miyamoto that'd give it us. It'd be Iwata and Sakurai. I still want it though with some more of their portable characters on there.
Yep Japan is definitely going to help the PS3 edge out the 360 Patcher, most definitely.... The Wii sells more than the PS3 in one month in the US than the PS3 sells in 6 months in Japan, infact the same could be said for the Wii as well considering its sold 700,000 in one month
Of course it helps. The lead is 2 million+ after 2-3 years of existence which would probably jump to 5 million with a price-cut in another 2 years time plus the release of Final Fantasy 13, VERSUS and 14. Suddenly the XBox "lead" is down to a mere 2/3 million.
Lol, can never get enough of that picture. xD Damn, handhelds are kicking major ass in Japan. :o
Japan, Ah Japan... Tokyo. Love it. A place where you get served a nice cold Asahi beer on the Shinkansen (bullet train) by the staff , and a bow as they exit to the next carriage.... I Swear the public transport system there is incredible, there really is no need to drive. On the train , All i can say , If they arent holding a mobile phone its a DS or PSP !!!
I am jealous of you now. :|
i see the 360 has finally passed 1 million sales in japan...nice...
No-one seems to care about HD consoles in Japan. Maybe if they release a HD handheld?
the only place where they recognize the quality of hardware...too bad its struck by recession or else ps3 n psp sales would have been much better worldwide
Hmm i wonder what was your excuse for the sales figures for ps3 in 2007 and 2008 when recession did not hit anyone.
Those handhelds just om nom nom nom nom nom nom nom.
Nintendo domination. Woop.
Sony this generation has done some pretty impressive feat with such high price they are still hanging on
My PS3 is 4th, I can no longer enjoy PS3 games noo... wait, that's right I don't play games and I do not think the same as reviewers and that's why I enjoy games regardless of sales or score but because they are fun for me. Stop ranting about sales and play the game, it doesn't matter it it sold one million or 1 so long as you play it and like it then it's a good game or system.
THe topic is about sales so what do you expect the comments to be about? how many multiplats look better on ps3 ? well that would not be the comment you'd be interested in either.
PSP is doing really well...
Shhhhh..... don't say that around here, "they" might hear you! *runsway*
care about these figures. Unless they are idiots.
today, I saw an advert on GameStation £39.99 for an old Nintendo DS. I was thinking of buying it, and then I thought of the games. All complete trash and for kids! Only games meant to have is Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword and Metroid Prime on DS. 2 only good games. And I saw how bunch of idiots gamers are, buying DS, later DSLite and now DSi. What a bunch of fulls. Nintendo really need to grow the fark up! Nearly every farking games on DS is named after DS or sounds like DS. Ninja Gaiden DS Megaman ZX (DS) Bartender DS Arkanoid DS Bomberman DS brothers in arms DS please....
Besides the PS2, aren't there only five consoles being sold right now?
I was thinking the same. Now I really wonder how many PS2's have been sold the first half of this year.
japan showing once again how insignificant they are in hardware sales. and the droids think japan is going to save them from the whooping the 360 and Wii are giving it. dream on
