UK PS3 Retail Prices Tumble Again

From MVC:
"The online retailer is currently selling Sony's new console at an unprecedented £387.87, and, Gamestation, and WH Smith have also all been selling the console for under £400. Similarly Tesco and Amazon continue to offer several eye-catching deal software deals on the barely one-month old console.

"PS3 performed well pre-launch and the first week of release, but since then sales have dropped considerably..."

when the price will be £299 for ps3 60GB vs £279 for x360, then it will be a good price. =))

It's naturally obvious that hype about the console is dying down and retailers are unable to sell their stocks.

Sell the console for £299 and it will be a success. Because only the hardcore have bought it so far.

They're dropping it £20-£30. That's not going to move many more consoles than it would at £425.

Sony does not tell retailers how many PS3 to order. That's up to individual retailers to decided. It would appear to me that this particular retailer over estimated what they would be able to sell and ordered to many and are now forced to drop its price to move the units. Add to this they are in competition with other retailers and are trying to increase their market share against them.

People have to remember to look at things on a much larger scale then just what's happening at one retail store or individual retail site. The cool part in all this is consumers are catching a break. Where I live in Canada, 2 of the major retailers actually increased the price of the system over and above MSRP from $660 to $700 and its still that high.
