Without a doubt, Red Faction: Guerrilla is one of the best games that will hit this year. It's the complete package, and has enough calls back to the first game that it feels like a proper sequel, unlike the last game. Go buy it. Now.
I really enjoyed this game, but there are enough little problems with it that I feel like anything above a 8.5 - 9.0 range is a little off. Along with the GTA4 city, I think the destruction in RF:G is one of the coolest things I've seen this generation. The graphics and sound are also both very nice. On the downside are the uneven difficulty, with some missions being insanely hard while escaping the EDF in a vehicle is insanely easy. Those EDF vehicles are pretty fast when you drive them but the AI seems scared to drive faster than the speed limit. Sometimes when you complete an objective all enemies in the area simply vanish and the alert level goes to green, other times your Red Faction commander says "Now get out of there !" and the enemies are still surrounding you. The various side missions are represented by icons that give you an idea of what weapons might be needed to complete them, but story missions don't do that so I found myself re-loading to try different weapon loadouts. At some points of the game I felt like it was a solid 9 and in others I started to think it was more like an 8, so my final score is an 8.5.
