Edge are about as useful for game reviews as Pitchfork media are for music...not very.

callahan093186d ago (Edited 3186d ago )

Agreed. Their opinions never fall in line with my own, I can say that much. I hated Overlord 2 (and that's coming from a fan of the original and someone who really likes Rhianna Pratchett's writing, but the gameplay was just unforgivably bad in that game), and I enjoy The Conduit. If anything, they should switch their scores, but even a 6 for the Conduit is too low for my personal opinion.

gaffyh3186d ago

EDGE is the worst review site ever. They give in to the hype with every game, and the Conduit doesn't deserve such a low score, it at least deserves a 7

Information Minister3186d ago

Edge is a magazine, not a site. And don't rely too much on their reviews. Controversial scores are what keeps them going, otherwise they would end up just like EGM.

GameForFame3186d ago

Edge is hardly reliable for reviews ... but then again ...

This game does look pretty bad, I keep seeing ads saying how it's actually supposed to be good, but from what I keep seeing it somehow looks anything BUT good. Actually looks like crap, TBH, IMHO.

gaffyh3186d ago

@.14 - Yeah I agree, the game doesn't look as good as it was hyped up to be, but it is still better than 4/10.

Wow so MSFT pay EDGE to give PS3 games bad scores but now theyre paying for bad Wii scores too ?

MSFT are just the worst.

Microsoft Xbox 3603186d ago (Edited 3186d ago )

One of the reasons why Conduit sucked is because of cheaters.

BTW....Is it harder to just type MS instead of MSFT? LOL

mastiffchild3186d ago

Sdge must sell ads on the strength of the hits they get when they "review" console exclusives and give them a very hard time of it indeed. If they can score lower than anywhere else all the better it seems.

They aren't biased at all(ffs they were about the only site that didn't love Mass Effect(7)and their PS3 scopres are the stuff of legend!)unless it's against well hyped games exclusive to ANY console. They know the fans/owners of each will want to know the score and see why it's given so if the score is controversial it ups the chances of hits even further.

It's a real shame as some of them are good writers but they're always out of line with the rest of their industry and usually only when it's an exclusive yo one platform or another-hence the need to score P'type higher than inFAMOUS and also go lower than the pack with The Conduit. I've given up on them as I just don't think they're reliable at all-esp when you consider that, often, the words and score seem to bear very little relation to each other!

Controversial? Yes. Cool? Nope. Credible? Not for me!

Syronicus3186d ago

EDGE is trash. I am not going to say that the Conduit is all that great but it is not a 4 out of 10, that's for certain. Now EDGE, they are about a 2 out of 10 in my book when it comes to journalism and that is being generous.

iamtehpwn3186d ago

Edge gave Killzone 2 and Final Fantasy X (back in the day) a bad review.
And those are 2 of the best games of their Genre.

Those guys are idiots if you haven't figured it out.

Nikuma3186d ago

I would of given FFX a not so great review. Such a forgettable game.

KarateExplosion3186d ago (Edited 3186d ago )

Have just offended me.

Blitzball ftw

iamtehpwn3186d ago

You probably forgot your mother, first girlfriend, and your head if it wasn't attached.

MRMagoo1233186d ago

@Above your right i loved FFX just hearing the music from the game gives me the emotions i had while playing it. I gotta give it to the makers of those games because there the only company that make me miss the ppl in the game after ive completed it.

Nikuma3185d ago (Edited 3185d ago )

..but I didn't get much of anything out of that game. Story didn't pull me in, didn't care about any of the characters tho Auron(sp?) was pretty cool, and Tidus was one of the lamest FF characters I've seen with a horrible VA. Grid system was meh. I honestly forget how the game ends... Something with his dad?

To each their own, but I found FFX to be quite a subpar RPG in a lot of areas.

rockerboy3186d ago

does anyone still buy edge anymore ?

keysy4203186d ago

so fight night round 4 is the same rating as prototype

saimcheeda3186d ago

would give thses kind of scores?? ;)

DelbertGrady3186d ago (Edited 3186d ago )

Prototype - 8
Red Faction: Guerrilla - 7

Prototype - 5
Red Faction: Guerrilla - 9

Seriously though. This makes me mad cause I've played both games. Try playing Prototype first and then switch to Red Faction: Guerilla, and after that tell me Prototype deserves an 8 and RF a 7. And do it while sober. I dare you.

LightofDarkness3186d ago

Honestly, I've played all the June sandbox titles, and I found Prototype to be the most enjoyable out of all of them. RF:G and Infamous were fun, but Prototype pressed more of the right buttons with me. At the end of the day, I just have a whole lot more fun playing Prototype than the other two; it's setting, style, core gameplay, movement and general aesthetic just appeal to me more than the others. Not saying they're bad games, they're all good ,but not great or outstanding in any way. Same goes for Prototype, but it was the one I liked the most.

omni_atlas3186d ago (Edited 3186d ago )

yep, edge: xbox fanboys.

prototype gets a better score then infamous, even though 99% of other magazines and review sites say otherwise.

can't have a ps3 exclusive better then the xbox one! </sarcasm>

DelbertGrady3186d ago

I respect your opinion. Might have to give Prototype another go then. My initial impression(played it for 2 hours or so) was that it looked and played like an average last gen game, in many ways similar to Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

LightofDarkness3186d ago

Well, different strokes for different folks. RF:G probably appeals more to you than Prototype, there's no right or wrong in it. If that was your impression of it, it's probably the right one for you. I've never played that Hulk game before so I can't comment on it.

zoneofenders3186d ago

proto type 6 red faction 8.0 infamous 8.5
my opinion anyway...

mastiffchild3186d ago

Soda's right, imo. Playing P'type if you played Hulk YD is a different experience to if you haven't as there's quite a lot of it that feels familiar-still agood game but, for me, not as good as inFAMOUS or RF:G. Maube the reviewer hasn't played UD?

aldesko3186d ago

Before playing protoype or red faction, I thought both would be "rentals"... but I eventually picked up red faction cause it's so addicting IMO. I think the problem with a lot of review mags/sites is they don't have a standard scale to grade on, so each reviewer just picks a somewhat arbitrary number and may not grade a game the same way another reviewer does. Not that any of it matters...

I'm glad Battlefield got a 9, though =)

Oh, and Conduit is fun... definitely not a 4 by any stretch of the imagination.
