Rumor: FFXIV beta may begin by September

Massively: Ah, rumors. We know the game was just announced, but there are three major reasons this rumor carries some weight. For one, Final Fantasy XIV has a 2010 release date, which makes sense considering the development team claims to have been working on the game for nearly five years now. Also, the dev team has expressed that they'd like to have a longer beta than the one Final Fantasy XI had -- one which was only around four months long.

If this is true I hope I can get in!

I'd literally give a guy a HJ to get in on the beta. I got in on the FFXI beta, and of course played it for 6 years straight.

I'll do whatever I can to get in on this one too whenever the chance arrives. I'll call, email, stalk, send anthrax threats, etc to get access lol. My cocaine addiction to Final Fantasy in the Online realm is that of Courtney Love. :D

I just pre-ordered the retail collector's edition, got my code and finished playing round 2 of the Aion beta. That game is the most polished, beautiful MMORPG I've ever played. I imagine it'll suck away a majority of my life.

I don't have time to play 2 fantastic MMOs in September! This may foil my perfect plan of Aion 2009 => FFXIV 2010 :)

P.S. If you haven't tried Aion yet, you're missing out on a real treat. It's the freshest thing to hit the market in years. Familiar MMO stuff, sure (questing, gathering, etc), but the combat, flight elements and graphics (especially the spells, I am particularly critical of this in games as I always play a caster) are glorious.

The massive PVEPVP pit sounds over the top awesome (but haven't gotten my toon there yet). The numerous cut-scenes are nice too, ala Guild Wars.

This is a sign of an alpha stage of gameplay, not beta. Alpha stage can last from 3 months to 1 year depending on the game.
