Seriously I am at a loss of words. I have heard so much about this game, and from what I just watched its horrible. Not bad but horrible.

The graphics are horrible, from textures, to lighting, to the colors they have chosen.

This game in no way beats Gears of War in any way.

Hell even Resistance Fall of man looks A LOT better than this and has more players and effects going on at one time... I mean A LOT better and A LOT more stuff on screen.

The only thing I concluded is the game is not finished. Even with that being said I am utterly shocked this is Halo 3...

Have people who played this game every played unreal tournament? This Halo 3 looks worse then Unreal Tournament 2004 and seems to have WAY less going on.

I really hope somebody tries to beat it because it looks like a great game!! Just watching the little bits of film you already start thinking about how you're going to use the mines and where to snipe!! Bringing back the battle rifle was a good idea but bringing back the pistol would have got him some oral from many guys sisters! I hope that somehow it's implemented.

I can't stand how this gets into a "Halo look like crap" and "PS3 doesn't have a game out there that can stand up to this match" I don't curse at kids and I hate having to do it to adults so try to keep comments that aren't constructive to yourselves.

Graphics aren't done and they need some work. Bungie will get that in. This is not Gears so wipe that out of your minds. I hope that they've set the campaign up more like RFOM and less like Gears. Gears is too narrow and I felt that way sometimes in Halo 2 but not at the end of Halo 1 or the beginning for that matter.

I hope they fixed the REAL problems with Halo 1 and 2. Lag and cheating and how they handle cheating. Cheating was so bad in Halo 2 that you didn't even feel like playing sometimes. It was shameful!!! Battle Rifles shooting across the board like sniper rifles is also a terrible problem with Halo 2. I hope that those things are fixed in this last edition.

It's funny how people are trying to defend this alpha build and then tried to hate when the Killzone demo was shown. If you believe this game is going to look good, you have to believe that killzone is going to look much better. Killzone showed a lot more features in the demo than this alpha build. Killzone had next-gen effects, Halo Alpha Build has Halo 2 effects and Halo 1 multiplayer. Period.

Remember, cause I know you read the article, all footage shown was from the Alpha build. In fact, no footage has ever been shown of the Beta build. I have to say that I was a little concerned about how the graphics would translate into this generation. When it hits Beta stage then they will be working on both the graphics and gameplay. I like how they perfect the gameplay first, and then polish the graphics. For those people doubting the graphical prowess Halo 3 will employ, understand that Halo 3 is Xbox 360's BIGGEST game. Bigger than even Gears of War. Trust me, they'll push the hardware as far as they can. There are still quite a few months before the fall, and by that time, trust me, it WILL look good.

For an example, just look at how the screenshots for Forza Motorsport 2 have improved in recent weeks.

Bungie has always been about creating suspense for their titles, this is why the game looks the way it does. It's so that when the game is released they can blow everyone away.

The big things to come away with are the bubble shield, the recording function, the trip mines, and the return of the assault rifle so lets the face bashing begin.

after i purchased a ps3 i decided to try resistance fom and fell in love with fps again. i didnt really give them(fps) a chance last gen. i was more into fighting games,rpgs, and shootum ups. I never got in to the whole xbox thing because i was young and did not have the cash to support two systems. now i love fps and i think i need a little halo in my life. i think the multiplayer in halo3 is going to be the sh!t. i love playing resistance online and hope what i learned their will help me in halo. if i never played halo1 or 2 , am i going to get the sh!t kicked out of me or will i have a fighting chance? how is the learning curve? how do people cheat? ( in resistance, people go off the map, is that similar? ) i hope that after MS release the elite i can get a good working 20g 360 for a good price! i think i might need this game

Curve is the same for any FPS game. Learn the maps and learn how to use the weapons. Certain weapon combinations really kick ass. Such as the plasma pistol and the battle rifle combo. One charged green shot hits the person taking his shield off. Then a simle swipe with the BR across the face pretty much downs someone in two shots.

I really love this game. It's the one reason I miss my 360. The Alpha build looks good. The gameplay should be good too. All in all, the one game constantly tugging at my conscience to re-purchase a 360.

Look at the copyright at the end of the video, this footage is old, that's an old build, let's wait to see what they have for the BETA test before passing judgement on the graphics. Because I don't think we have seen the "true" build of the game as of like right now.

I think Halo3 will look better than Gears but i don't think it'll be able to outdo Unreal3, graphics wise. Other than that, Halo is one of the MOST overhyped franchises i've ever played. I have yet to hear a logical reason why it is the best firstperson/overall game ever made by some of the xboxfanboys, now don't get me wrong i'm not a PSfanboy nor am i saying Halo sucks. I just think too many people put the game's status over what it should be. It's bar none the best FPS this generation for consoles but being a PC gamer, i can't say it's better than other FPS i've played on the PC.

I dont have a problem saying Halo is a good game, my point is that it's not the best game. Every fanboy seems to think Halo is the best thing since sliced bread and nothing can compare to it, but if you asked them to tell why it is the best game, they really cant give or mention a feature that other FPS games haven't done before. All i'm saying is that Halo is overhyped and overrated (by alot, but not all) and it causes other great games to lose facetime and attention b/c of that.

EDIT: to Mattey - Well if halo does the best job of the three then what about, perfect dark 64 or golden eye (good multiplayer,story,graphics for its time). Halflife2 is a much better than than halo2, it comes with CS already in the box (CS being the most popular online FPS, that's free to play), Graphics are much better, Story is an opinionated comparision, and most of all HL2 offered something Halo didn't something new (gravity gun and soon portal guns). So clearly Halo does NOT do the best at combining all of them.

CS & Battlefield has a MUCH better multiplayer than Halo.
CS - theres no better user friendly online FPS out there.
Battlefield - way more players at once, more classes, more stratigy, freaking huge environments.

Saying CS is the most user friendly FPS out there, I totally disagree with. Half the reason people love Halo's multiplayer so much is because it is so simple to use, you choose wether you want to play team slayer or team snipers(ect.) then you hit start, and it automaticlly matches you up with people who have the same skill level. Plus there is so much more depth to the whole experience i cant even explain.

I actually havent played half life two because i dont have a very good computer, but i know its a good game. Also, if you think a gravity gun can be called a innovation, then vehicals and non-linear gamplay incorrperated into a FPS is alos a innovation (the tank in golden eye doesnt count)

I'm not going to argue that Halo is very easy to get into and have fun with, it's very true and i can't deny that but CS IS the most userfriendly FPS out there.

-You can play games/maps that deal with certain weapons
-you can create just about any mod you want with it (this takes the whole Userfriendly aspects to a whole other level)
-You can slap players around as an admin
-Theres no other multiplayer game with the amount of users on.
-You can talk, type and MUTE (this JUST started in Halo3) players
there are wayyy more maps and a user can create one just as he pleases
-It's free to play online, with free updates
-you can play with all type of connection speeds (if you want)
-you can record demos and watch them as you please (like the whole new replay thing in Halo3)

and about the innovation with vehicles... Tribes and Flashpoint did it before Halo1 (not counting 007 tank) and Battlefield is the best at it.

Campaign: Please tell me that there's something other than going around shooting all your enemies to death to reach a certain goal, in campaign mode.

Graphics: c'mon now, just about everyone of the games i listed looks better than Halo. If all of the games i've listed looks better then how is the graphics for Halo **Great** .

But after that i know you're going to say the whole "but halo combines all of those attributes", yet noone seems to mention that there are games that look much better, plays much better, and has a better story.
And on top of that, Halflife 2 CLEARLY beats both the halos out in just about every catagory.

Now, i KNOW i'm going to get bashed for posting this but it's what i feel is the truth. I've played MANY FPS games and Halo is NOT the best nor did it do anything to get me to pee in my pants like all the Xboxfanboys. You are entitled to your opinion. Though there are a good 8 plus million gamers who most disagree with you. Not including the Hundreds of Editors who review games for a living. The Halo series not onloy dominated last gen in game sales....Not only did it dominate in the online gaming realm....not only is it one of the most highly rated game series.....But it deserves all the praise it recieves. I, like you play every type of fps game there is. From PC games to console games. And what seperates the Halo series from anything else is the community it has built. Its too much fun to play with your friends all over the world and the level design for the Halo games are fantastic. It basically takes whats fun about every fps before it and improves on the "fun" aspect of them. When the origianl Halo came out it was clearly the best looking console game to date. When Halo 2 came out...it did the same thing. Sure when you look at Halo 2 now...it doesn't compare graphically to Gears of Fear and other Next Gen FPS games. But, for those who doubt what Bungie and MS will do...ha ha ha ha ha....You will soon see. If their previous two games are any indication of what they are capable of....I'm sure Halo 3 not only will be unbelievable fun....but it will also look beautiful. And sure the Halo 2 story was cut off and not as long as many would like. But, in my opinion....what makes Halo what it is the the thousands of hours gamers put into the multiplayer fun. I will give credit to HALO cause it has to be a great FPS.. I personally do not like HALO, i tried only the first one and didn't like the style... probably cause at that time i didn't like FPS so i'm gonna shut my mouth on that....

I gotta say though that BBsin is right, there are a lot of good and great FPS out there that get overshadowed by HALO's hype.. He is also right on the fact that there are a lot of xboxfanboys that put this game as if jesus will come to earth with a copy of HALO to play and leave our salvation hanging..

If so many people say is a good or a great game well i believe it, so many people's good opinion about this franchise have to mean something... But i really doubt this game is the Holy Grail.. IMO

I've played halo, and I gotta tell ya its a pretty fun game. The thing about halo is, everyone can pretty much get in on the action and have a good time. Sometimes you just want to be able to pick up a game, and do some cool stuff, and have fun doing it (why I love GTA so much). Although I am new to the game, I of course got my ass handed to me, but I did my share of killing, had a 1 to 1 K:D ratio after a couple of rounds so that was good. Will I buy a 360 because of this game. Highly doubtful, I simply have no trust in microsoft, upon doing research on the failure rates, that prices on add-ons, and the like. But HALO is a fun game, and there will be no HALO-Killers. IT just won't happen, too many people are fans of this game to ever let it die. There are a couple of things about halo I don't like.. well its not that I don't like, just gotta get used to it. Im not used to low gravity all the time, I was a counterstrike (1.5-1.6)player (PC), and low grav was fun for a while, but got old fast. Map familiarity is a huge part of FPS online, you gotta know where you are, and know where the enemy is coming from, I don't know that, but it takes getting used to. Vehicles are hella fun though, hands down. But the thing I really hate, are all the damn kids yelling profanities and saying stupid crap and making noises. Really, too many damn kiddies, its really disturbing. But all in all, like GTA where graphics are not number 1, HALO is a fun game you can just pick up and play, no ifs ands or buts.

you mentioned like 7 or 8 great games that in your opinion were better than Halo in different areas but you see thats the whole point Halo (specifically the original) is one game that was great in all those area's, also yeah I would agree with those who say that the graphic's in Halo have never been the #1 concern, but at the same time, Halo has always been right up their in the visual dept. when Halo1 came out it definitely raised the bar for "console" graphics, yes there's always been stuff on PC that looks a little better but usually those PC's cost alot more. The story in Halo was awesome, best FPS story ever still in my opinion....I've played HL & HL2 and that game comes pretty close but Halo still has that something extra, it has that "Gung Ho" feel, makes you excited. Now moving on to gameplay come on, Halo's gameplay is always been top notch, I've played all those games you speak of and Halo manages to blend the best gameplay aspect of so many FPS's and ends up being well balanced, making the story flow with all the action, not really hard game, not easy and keeps you interested.

Lastly, and I saved this for last on purpose.....multiplayer rocks, this is the area where Halo2 out shined the original, ever wonder why this game is played so much online?, its fun...I think Gears was also very good online but it lacked many of the modes and gametypes of Halo2 which is another reason Halo2 is able to compete with a nex gen beast like Gears, although in Gears defence the style is different so the same modes may not be as appealing for Gears. All in all Halo just does everything so well, maybe not everything the best or lightyears beyond every other FPS but overall IMO its the best total FPS experience. -I'm specifically referring to Halo 1, although I think Halo2 was very good, still it wasn't as good as the original IMO, but hey the original is what is if you know what I mean; and thats exactly why I believe Bungie is not emphasizing graphics at this point, no they are working to make sure we get that original Halo feel which is why they are doing this beta and why they are not "afraid" to show "multiplayer" Alpha build gameplay.....also lets not talk about "ground breaking" many of the greatest games ever are just games that somehow took an old idea and made it better. Halo3 is coming......"Finish the Fight!"

[Edit]^^^^^ Smokey you touched on something I forgot to mentioned, for those who haven't experienced Halo (where the hell have you been?) -just kiddin, no but seriously don't be intimidated if you haven't played before....if you have just some basic FPS experience then Halo is really easy to pick-up, don't get me wrong there is a learning curve, but its very short....and it doesn't take long to become a decent player. Now there are some Halo "experts", and that takes partly god given talent and of course experience, but I wouldn't be concerned, you should be able to find some nice competitive games online, especially if you just want to play and have fun.

I understand "some" gamers may not love Halo as much as I do....but still I stand by my earlier post because Halo1 is one of my all time personal favorites after playing so many games over 20+ yrs. -So, I'm totally biased when it comes to Halo, I've owned every console (with a few exceptions Neo Geo WTF?, couldn't afford that as a kid) but over that time frame and Halo1 ranks right up there with some of the best ever IMO. If I had a 360 I would just play halo 3 all day, but I can't justify a whole console for one game. I love Bungie because they think how I think, their ideas are also my ideas and I have a lot of ideas. The graphics aren't horrible but they are deffinately not up to par for a next generation console but of course this is an alpha build and should improve. I don't expect the visuals to be better than what Unreal Engine 3 offers either.

I am impressed with this game and the video, Bungie seems to take the time and get feedback and deliver what the audience wants. I think the most impressive thing that I like is the replay feature. I've ran this idea across a few developers and wondered if it would work on a console, I guess it would, sweet.

Not every PS3 fan lives by "just you wait." I for one think the PS3 is good now. I thoroughly enjoy it; albeit, i think improvements are obvious, and in some ways, needed. Nonetheless, if PS3 fans are speaking ill willed or doubtful about Halo then they are being obstinate (stubborn). Everyone knows Halo 1 and 2 look good, and with the budget being spent on halo 3, i HIGHLY doubt it's going to look bad. I had the same problem with Warhawk. I watched the youtube clip and thought, THIS IS CRAP! then I downloaded the hi clip to my PS3 and it looked way better.
