Bioware just released three stunning screenshots of their upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive, Mass Effect.
Deleted in order to avoid flamewar.
Thammer1: I hear you.
2 bubble people :)
DAMN that looks sweet as [email protected]
Jenzo I know why you feel that way but please do not start it.
remember all that speculation about downgraded graphics?? looks like it was just a bad capture and compression...
All those pics look great but the close-up in the first pic is amazing....maybe its wishful thinking because I love Sci-fi so much but when I watch the gameplay trailers and see pics like this I get the feeling this game has that "it" factor where if the gameplay is as good as it looks its going to be one of those games you can't put down. -Come on Bioware, now lets see some more gameplay footage!
Bet none of you have studied a mans face for so long lol. Looks good.
...that's so wrong...yet so true. :o
one of the few titles i envy the 360 for.
They've got the specular on the eyes spot on. Not easy to do either.
It all depends upon the technique, because this Gen can handle the multiple layers needed you can use several individual objects with separate materials to achieve very realistic effects. If you use an object for each real part of the eye you have the same structure as real life.
They definately are very nice, this is really shaping up to be a stellar game.
Didn't someone developing a game call Too Human (I won't mention the persons name) say that the Unreal Engine3 wasn't working for that person? Well it's sure as HELL working for Bioware :D
it's working for them now i believe... and from the latest Too Human screenshots i've seen.. it's working really well.
you have a link for those shots?
"Dyack says UE3 engine tweaked to the point that it’s almost unrecognizable — TH has 4xaa, [which UE3 doesn’t do]– but won’t elaborate further."

"To be blunt, the game has come a long way and I am confident that even the most critical players will be really impressed with the results. I write this knowing full well the issues the project showed at E3 and I also state that the majority of those issues have been obliterated. The game runs smoothly now. The camera dynamically follows the action, offering the most cinematic viewpoint. The combat allows for dozens of on-screen enemies. Animations are much more fluid and transitions more natural. And for you tech nuts, Too Human is running with four times anti-aliasing, eight light sources per character, soft shadowing, depth of field blur galore, and much more. The engine will wow you. Some of the in-game models are truly incredible. "
You've describe that game better than the people who are actually making it:D All jokes aside, the game does look amazing and I was sold on this from day one. I was just pointing out the comment that he made prior to the 2006 E3 event. So Please put down the pitch fork, I come in peace :D
LOL naw, no pitchfork.. was just lettin u know.. sorry if i came off mad or aggressive or flame-ish
Goose times? I didn't know geese played video games...
LOL geese haha. I didnt even see that on his post. This game looks so good I bet the odd water bird might try to have a go.
Mass Effect & Too Human will move some hardware.
Not to sure about that, many of my mates who have a 360 dont know what the hell mass effect or too human are, they are just waiting for Halo 3. Mass Effect looks good, i wont be picking it up when i get my 360. It will bore me to much (i hate RPG's) but it looks good anyway.
For RPG fans, I definately agree Mass Effect should end up bringing a few more gamers into the 360 family. Graphics are great and the name 'Bioware' has a certain amount of respect when it comes to RPG fans on its own right. Fact is, this entire year (and next) should be nice in the RPG department (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, ME of course, Fable 2, Elveon, etc are all 'musts' for me at least).
Too Human though... not so sure about it. Should sell well but don't think it'll necessarily bring about console sells to same degree as ME could (although in all likelyhood neither will sell many--but in terms of software sells both should end up selling nicely). It is however a game I've got to buy ;) No doubt about THAT.
Said a while back that the trailers were not reflective of the graphical polish they were working on when the released them. 15.1 ME is a action RPG a next-gen masterpiece that actually has a few genre's all in one game if your buddies havn't heard of Mass Effect and Too Human they sure will, so what you are saying is a null point.
I was a little disheartened after seeing the Ratchet and Clank screenshots (they looked good, and my errant initial reaction was that they couldn't be done on xbox). But I must say, Mass Effect has brought me back to the fold. Those first two shots especially---They're unbelieveable!
About Too Human: Silicon Knights released a blog video on ign (haven't checked whether this was posted as news yet) and they talk about the development process. After almost a year's worth of silence, they're finally going to start showing gameplay!!!!
Here's the link (again, haven't checked if this is news yet):
This is just the developers talking about how they've improved the game since E3 (in general terms, nothing specific). But next week, they show the first footage of where the game is now, and if it lives up to the hype, which is seems it very well could, then we're gonna have one hell of a trilogy to look forward to --- actually two, since Mass Effect and Too Human are both slated to be triilogies.
Also 15.1, just because your friends dont know about it isnt representative of others. Now too human isnt that known but if marketed enough as the 360s "God of War" as I think I read they will it probably will sell some consoles. And just go to the mass effect fansite. Bioware has 3 million plus members and alot of them dont even own a 360 but say they will buy one for ME. Plus I talk to people all the time on live and they know about it.
So I mean I'm just saying their are people who do know about these games and some who are waiting for them to release to buy a 360 and on top of that both games are being published by microsoft so you know they will be strongly marketed and on top of that lol the ceo of bioware said that the same huge marketing push that microsoft did for Gears of War in 2006, microsoft will be giving just as strong marketing for ME in 2007 meaning ALOT of marketing so if they dont know about these games now, o believe me they will soon.
Sorry but I'm a huge mass effect fanboy.
my god those are unbelievable the skin textures are absolutely fabulous. I remember reading back from IGN that the graphics were good but Bioware had not started polishing and finishing and tweaking everything if THIS is all the way tweaked wow, if these are only slightly tweaked gameplay pictures, imagine what the game will look like on your Hi-def TV assuming you have one...
One things I really like about the 360, and I guess is due to the fact that it's relatively a new console compared to the Playstation is the fact that it's focused primarily in new IP. It may not have some strong titles such as meal gear or final fantasy which already have a large fanbase and will sell. I am not saying that the ps3 does not have or will have new IP (Heavenly Sword, etc) but no one expect them to as good as lets say metal gear. The 360 is loaded with new ip thi gen. ofcourse there is no fanbase for them but it didnt look like gears, lost planet, dead rising, crackdown and all the other new ips building one.
the first pic, holy crap
these graphics will kill Gears Of War if this games really ends up looking like that...
holy the guys face the first pic DAMN... very realistic
im not saying its better but so far we have seen amazing screen shots of heavenly sword and ff on ps3 but those look so smooth and anime like, no hair on faces not as much detail as this picture.
IMO this picture looks more real then the heavenly sword/ff shots we have seen so far.
the wrinkles on his for head and under his eyes, the heavenly sword/ff shots just look all smooth and stuff, do you guys get what i mean???
again no flaming please this is just my opinion.
Well nasty nas I think mass effect looks better than anything we've seen on ps3 or any other console to date.
It is great not miss out on this $#!t. I could not even think of being a gamer and not playing the best looking games on the market. M$ knows hot to keep hard core graphics whores in check. The 1st party titles really have not comp. IMO No flames just my opinion too Brah.
Lost Oddessy and Halo3 are next to show some next-gen goodness.
But what's up with that gameplay screen? The third one looks like PS2 status... Hopefully they get the gameplay graphics up to par with the cutscenes.
those aren't cutscenes! thats gameplay
What cutscenes are you talking about? All three pics shown is gameplay. Just because you havent seen any gameplay that is this good looking on ps3, there is no need to hate on this game and try to say its only cut scenes.
No cutscenes it's clear you know nothing about this game. The 3rd pic is just a concret room with shep getting blasted. lol
DJ stop making excuses lol, Trying to say its a cutscene. This is what you do in ME you fight, then you travel a round talking to people/things to unravel the story hanging out in clubs etc and walk, fly, drive around the galaxy talking fighting etc. The hole point in what they are trying to do is get rid of cutscene movies to tell the story in the gamplay thats the signature quality Xbox is known for.
Dj Trying to say its a stop and pop cutscene; in realality Shep simply walked up to the charector in the game and talks with them controlled by the player that has to explore to find these charectors MS has another big game doing it aswell Lost Odyessy.
Sack of Sh*T! coming in here making excuses we've all have unfinished trailers of Mass Effect on our 360 Hardrives that show some of the enviroments to say they look PS2 is moronic at best, we'll have to wait and see on how much better looking the enviroments get on release. http://masseffect.bioware.c... http://masseffect.bioware.c... http://masseffect.bioware.c... http://masseffect.bioware.c... http://masseffect.bioware.c... For the most part DJ has been giving his opinion bases off of 2006 builds of the game the room has Bland Architecture in the 3rd pic, Just stop it.
Whats the bid deal anyways BioWare said they were working on the visuals and tweaking the graphics and would show us something special very soon a couple of months ago, all pic #1 is, is an close up of an updated version of the graphics, looks like he's talking to somebody wi the camera zoomed in on a later build .
This game is going to look good....... Plus didnt Bioware say their was no cutscenes in this game????? Wasnt it going to be done all in engine??? Yaaa...good job though...The picture of the guys face freaked me out.. I was expecting some stellar graphics but when I saw the face I was like WHOA!!! is that a game or a picture? This game is going to be good cant wait....Heck im not even going to finish the game im going to travel to every nook and cranny in this game just to keep watching the vis's just too bad its coming out near some other good games...Gonna have to prioritze my time so none of them feel left out.
the first and second shots are fantastic and all I can say is wow.
The first two pics look phenomenal, there is no to ways about it. However, the third one does look a little..different lower rez..I don't know maybe its just the lighting, angle or something....
I really hope that those first two shots are direct captures, because those(like the HS ingame cutscene shot) are a massive leap in quality over the previous demo footage.
Bioware uses higher resolution models for the dialog scenes than for the combat and exploring scenes. That's why the characters dont look as good on the third screenshot as on the first two. The Developers have to balance the workload somewhat in order to avoid stuttering.
Personally i'm very excited about Mass Effect. Bioware has a record of good RPG's starting with 1998's Baldurs Gate which pretty much revived the dying RPG genre.
Absolutely can't wait till this hits. The ONLY thing I see on these shots that has me scratching my head is do they have the anti-aliasing turned on yet? I'm not screaming "OMG look at the jaggiez!!!" or anything, just looks like the AA isn't to snazzy on 2 of these pics.
PIC 1: Shepards eyeball, nostril, and collar
PIC 2: pretty much flawless
PIC 3: the blue force-shields and most noticeably the railing (!)
If these shots are representative of the final build with all goodies turned on (AA), I'd be interested to see it in motion to see if we even notice these "flaws".
Ok, flame away you ferries! :)
Damn that games looks sick, i might just buy this game. This may even move a few systems in Japan.
looks absolutly amazing i hope the gameplay is as good as the graphics
I'm not too worried about gameplay. Bioware has a major pedigree when it comes to that.
About the graphics though, the dialog scenes from the previous demo are no where near as good as that first screenshot. I hope this is just the new build, because DAMNNN! This goes a long way to supporting the devs saying its just like watching a Sci-fi movie, except someone is controlling it, I can't wait to see the final build in motion.
Bliss, pure bliss!
About whether or not Mass Effect and Too Human will be system sellers...
Don't forget, both games wills till get advertising when they're released. With Too Human, the developers want Hollywood level production values, plus the fact that it's going to be published by Microsoft, so I think they'll crank up the hype machine. And there is definatly going to be a demo of Too Human.
This could be a system seller, just based on the graphics alone! If it looks that good on my big screen, I'll be in utter amazement!
i'll pick this title up when it hits the PS3(i have a feeling it's coming to the PS3 at some point in the future).
i have no problems with the 360, but i can't justify purchasing one for 3 games (Mass Effect, Bioshock, Fable 2).
when there are more titles that i must play for the 360, i'll pick one up, but i was burned on my X Box purchase by Microsoft (they abandoned the X Box after only 4 years, and left me high and dry for new X Box releases while they were establishing the 360), so i'll contently wait.
same thing with Bioshock. i'll get the PS3 version.
with that said, holy moly, these screens look amazing! this is definitely shaping up to be one of the premiere 360 titles for this year. i'm looking forward to seeing it in action.
lol produced by Microsoft my son...so no you won't.
Noone interested in the new HD film that's been released...waiting in pending...
if Bioware has retained the rights to Mass Effect, then it's more than possible for the title to come to the PS3. published by MS or not. if MS owns the rights to Mass Effect, then yeah, we won't be seeing it anywhere else.
if not, well, looks like i won't be playing Mass Effect for a while then, as i'm not spending $400-$479 for a 360. too high of a defect rate for that kind of money spending.
I think they thought I was implying that the cutscenes are pre-rendered (they're in-engine, I know this). But there's such a huge divide in graphical quality between the first two screens and the third screen that I can't help but legitimately doubt that the first two are gameplay screenshots.
Well its too bad you got to miss out on these AAA exclusive titles for 360 and none of them will be coming to the ps3:
bioshock is exclusive
mass effect trilogy is all being published by microsoft
too human and fable 2 is published by microsoft as well.
DJ- You can doubt and hate and say whatever you want but the fact of the matter is that all 3 screenshots is gameplay.
Can you explain why the third screengrab looks so bad? I mean, I already said the first two screenshots are amazing (got 8 people to disagree with me on that, which should be a crime).
Actually, can anyone give me an alternative explanation for why screenshots 1 and 2 look so awesome and screenshot 3 looks like a PS2 title? I think the first two are in-engine (realtime) cinematics, but...
The mans face looks real except for the eyes...too shiny.
The 360 seems to just be hitting it's stride! I thought I achieved gaming nirvana with Gears and GRAW2, but upcoming games like Mass Effect, Bioshock, Forza2, and Halo3 are making me sweat with anticipation.
At this point, even Sony fanboys can't argue with the quality of games on the 360.
