IGN Reviews Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent

IGN has posted their review of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent for the PS3.

"The debate is over; videogame villains are dumb. You've probably come to this conclusion before, but the rocket scientists in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent take idiocy to a whole new level. They know there's an enemy -- me -- on their tanker ship, and here they are wandering the deck trying to find me with their flashlights... yet they keep pointing the damn things at blank walls and areas that aren't even dark.

It almost made me feel sorry for them as I ran up from the shadows and stabbed them right in their unsuspecting livers.

Brain-dead bad guys aside, Double Agent brings Sam Fisher to the PlayStation 3 for a successful campaign in almost every gameplay aspect that fans could want (except multiplayer, but I'll get to that later) and it provides an enjoyable go-round for any stealth-action fan. But let's start at the beginning..."

How can the ps3 version get 1.1 less than the 360 version when it had more additions, that befuddles(if that is a real word) me. But whatever.

Different reviewers, different tastes.

The Xbox 360 was much better, much sharper to say the least, 6 months later and 2 more maps and a female character doesn't make it better, also we the Xbox 360 players also get this content through downloadable content.
Again, the Xbox 360 version as no surprise is better. Again.

You ps3 fans will find this alot as time goes on. sorry.

"Graphically, the game looks good, but falls short of the detailed display Sam saw on Xbox 360 last year. Players who ran through the paces in Microsoft-land will notice a slower framerate and the loss of a few small details (things like a smaller quantity of fights during the prison riot, different textures on character close-ups and no goggle-toggle when tossing on Sam's specs)."

And the multiplayer modes are lacking.

That's why it got a score 1.1 less than the 360 version.

Is that so hard for you to accept and understand?
The oh so powerful Ps3 can't even be on par with a game released half a year ago on the 360. Don't blame the "lazy" developers, they wouldn't make any profit from being lazy. They want their games to be as good as they can be.

You can't see me.There are other areas where Sam and company suffer from a bout of PS3 hiccups too

it's lazy programming. Oblivion proved that point. It's lazy programmers and SDK's from Sony that lazy programmers don't know how to use.

For one didnt the 360 version have frame rate and screen tearing issues? Yes it did..

On top of that Ps3 version has content that the 360 version doesnt...

Whatever though. You can blame the cell but none of Sonys games have frame rate issues and have a lot more going on screen then any of ubisofts games..

Wasnt Ubisoft the ones who ported GRAW to PC without ANY "aa" support for ANY video card... So they are well known for crappy ports in my world.

TheXgamerLive3821d ago

Oblivion, doesn't have "all" the same content as the Xbox 360 version and it even had 1 additional yrs. time to perfect. not it's not as good as the Xbox 360 version again, no bad either mind you.

Also the Xbox 360 version as it always does, is getting additional content on Xbox Live downloads, also we "ALWAYS" have multiplayer, do you?

Robotz Rule3822d ago

Why would they give The Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion for the Playstation 3 a lower score than the Xbox 360 version, when the Playstation 3 version was shipped with additional content and tuned up graphics?

Nothing against the Xbox 360,I own one too,I had Oblivion for my 360,but the Xbox 360 stopped reading the game disc so I had to buy a new one and I said why not buy a different version since I only had like five Playstation 3 games at the time and around twenty games for my Xbox 360.

But it's a little weird,don't you say?

IGN's PS3 crew do not hate the system. If they did, they would be writing for another column. The same games on different consoles receive different scores because they're done by different reviewers. No two people share the exact same tastes, so obviously reviews are going to be relient on whose writing.

As for this, shame that the PS3 version is once again not up to speed with the 360 graphically-wise. Even though we know the PS3 can produce the same graphics as the 360, it's a lot of negative publicity when so many ports turn out crumbier on the Sony machine.

you expect a little more out of a game that comes out a year later. you expect them to take care of any of the problems that plague the original releases... not a game that is basically the exact same, with a few minor tweaks.

Don`t you hate when your drinks have water in them and everyone else doesn`t.
