Doesn't show much .. but the flames look pretty awesome if that's not cgi

All Time Greatness5441d ago

lol Crysis 2 was announced for consoles??

Seriously gaming couldn't get much better for us gamer's.

free2game3655441d ago

If you're a PC gamer this just means a more watered down game so people who whine can have everything released on their platform.

The_Zeitgeist5440d ago

Oh get of your high horse. This is a victory for consoles. Judging from the Crytek 2 tech demo we all saw at GDC the consoles will hold their own. Hmm lets see 200-500 depending on which console you buy or 1,000 -1,500 for a PC that can run it. I'll take console every time.

TheIneffableBob5440d ago

That is very ignorant of you, The_Zeitgeist. You are saying things from a hivemind and conveying it as fact, when it is in fact not.

TheRealSpy025440d ago (Edited 5440d ago )

i love gaming on my pc and all the systems. but lets face it, in order for them to get crysis on this generation of consoles, they are going to definitely have to "water down" quite a bit. with that said, i highly doubt crytek will disappoint the pc fans. it may not be a huge graphical leap from the first one (which is good cuz most computers still explode on the original), but it won't be a step backwards either. my guess is there will be some ai tweaks, water and physics tweaks, and the game will run smoother as they have had a lot more time to optimize their engine.

the people at crytek still pride themselves on setting the standards, they aren't going to just lay down and watch everyone else play catch up.

but umm zeitgeist...you're def wrong in your break down. i have ps3 and 360 and the 2 combines cost me 800 dollars...just for the 2 systems. then for the ps3 i needed an hdmi cable so there's another 40 or more, then i have xbox live fees so that's 50 a year. then i have accessories like controllers, optical audio cables, headsets, etc... and of course...an HD TV (mine was about 1,200...i'm sure some ppl spent a lot more).

then when you figure a high end pc costs slightly more but also functions as a video editor, word processor, web browser, and about a billion other things, it becomes clear what the better value is. not to mention that neither system can handle tru anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. and neither system can ever top pc quality graphics (fallout 3, bioshock, mass effect, far cry 2, etc... all look much nicer on pc).

as i said, i love gaming and always try to own as many systems as possible. but if i were strapped for cash, the choice would be obvious. PC is easily the better value.

P.S. and lets not forget that PC is the home of steam...probably the best online gaming network to date and it's free (though if xbox live were free, it'd be a pretty close competition. has anyone had a chance to check out 1 vs 100? i got into the beta tonight and it was great).

Tony999Montana5440d ago

@2.4
I just want to point out that the point zeitgeist was making was that you can buy a 360 OR PS3 for 200-500 and play this game almost up to PC standards. But if you want to run it on a PC at that level or better then it's going to cost you far more. The fact that you bought a 360 and PS3 has nothing to do with it, because you could just buy one and play this game. Oh, and the HDMI cable is optional and can be bought for less than you say, plus surely you still have to buy a headset and most of the accessories you listed on PC?

The_Zeitgeist5440d ago

"Hmm lets see 200-500 depending on which console you buy or 1,000 -1,500 for a PC that can run it."

I am not saying you can get both consoles for that price. What I was saying is that you can buy 1 of 3 versions of the 360 or 1 of 2 versions of a PS3. Obviously you don't need both consoles to play Crisis 2!

So I stand by my statement. Either way you go (360 or ps3) it will still be cheaper to play Crysis 2 on a console. That is all I was saying.

SL1M DADDY5440d ago

Will still get to boost the graphics up higher than seen on the consoles but for those of us that did not spend thousands of dollars on a rig that is far too over-clocked... We will play it on the console.

vickers5005440d ago

@TheRealSpy02

You're paying 40 bucks for an HDMI cable?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I am excited to see this development engine being used for console games.

While Crysis is an awesome game as I am sure Crysis 2 will also be, what I am really excited to see is some new IPs using the engine. Hopefully this quality engine will lead to some quality games.

Ninver5441d ago

Meh what's with the mediocre CGI trailers from third party devs? Seems as if Sony are the only ones showing actual gameplay as trailers. Anyway i'm excited to see how far they will push the ps3's hardware.

ShinMaster5441d ago

Same with the Forza 3 Trailer, just like the Forza 2 trailers...all pre-rendered CGI.

Kleptic5441d ago

well wasn't it only Sony that got completely slammed for showing all those pre-rendered trailers earlier this generation?...everyone else seemingly gets a free pass for this sort of thing, but if Sony does it...its a shat storm...no wonder sony doesn't bother with it anymore...

and don't say Sony 'said they were in game'...the one slip up from Tretton about killzone 2 was only mixing up killzone 2 and Resistance fall of man...RFOM was in game, killzone 2 was not...he reversed it...and we all know how killzone 2 ended up visually...so its not like it fecking mattered anyway...

The_Zeitgeist5440d ago

I totally agree. Look at todays Splinter Cell: Conviction trailer. No game play what so ever

TheRealSpy025440d ago (Edited 5440d ago )

once again zeitgeist, you are showing your ignorance. they demonstrated in game footage of Conviction and it looked awesome. also, all that footage from forza today during the press conference was in game.

ALSO, sony is the company that has been notorious this generation for showing cut scenes and not actual graphics.

why do ps3 fanboys feel the need to be such apologists for sony? it's really pathetic. if you enjoyed your system so much, you'd be playing the games, not trash talking the competitor. you're so blindly loyal to that sole system, you don't even realize how much you're missing out on.

EDIT: and for the record...the game i am currently playing most is inFamous. so don't even think about accusing me of being a 360 fanboy. i just can't stand how illogical you ppl are...and often times..blatant liars.

The_Zeitgeist5440d ago

Oh my god you are dense dude. The TRAILER had no in game. Most people that are not hardcore gaming nerds like all of us will only see the trailers they download off of Live and what not.

ME: "Look at todays Splinter Cell: Conviction trailer. No game play what so ever"

Also dude if you think I am a fanboy go look at my message history. I have been praising the hell out of MS. Saying that I finally want a 360 bad enough to go out and buy one because of Natal and Alan Wake.
Read before you babble on like a child. Saying I am showing my ignorance is hilarious. It's video games dude this is not a political debate.

Cool that Crysis is coming to consoles. Trailer sucked huge donkey d!ck though.

Tachyon_Nova5440d ago

Did you happen to catch the first Modern Warfare 2 trailer? It was probably the dumbest stunt ever, the first minute was a green wavy line, and then there was some exciting, yet generic looking footage that could have been anygame from the last 5 years.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071768d ago (Edited 1768d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141768d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1767d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1768d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1768d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1767d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1762d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
