MS To "Wait And See" On 360 Motion Control

"There's no point building the hardware if nobody really wants it", Chris Satchell tells CVG.

Microsoft "will wait" and see how demand for motion-sensitive controllers grows before developing its own SixAxis / Wii Remote-like controller, says Microsoft's Chris Satchell.

Speaking to CVG, the Microsoft Developer Group GM told us that unless there's real demand from gamers and publishers for the tech "there's no point building the hardware if nobody really wants it".

"One thing I'm not certain of is that third-parties are super-excited about that motion control - or at least they're not showing it with the games that are hitting the shelves yet", he said.

"We're yet to see a really good game on Wii that really says 'OK that control kicked ass'.

I thought Microsoft said Motion controls didn't matter? I'm not starting a console war, i just wanna know what they said about motion control.

pay attention to the part that says "Wait And See" and yes you were trying to start a flame war.

Icryo- Do some home work and you'll see MS had a similar type controller years ago before you start flame wars. Plus your acting like a new controller is coming out next week.

Now what was the name of that MS controller for the PC again?

Since not every PS3 game even add the functionality of the damn thing. IMO it very close to the Wii type gaming, but just half @ssed.

I still have that with me, it sux btw... I just use it once... and never use it again... well six axis is different I can say... but still no game have take the advantage of it yet... so I never really use it.... it's pretty fun with virtua tennis 3...

Shadow Flare3580d ago

that's the MS way.

Play it safe.
Take no risks.
Stick with standerd technology and make your consoles only include stuff you know about- Online and PC tech

So let's do it the other way around.

Cut Rumble which is used in every game, with saying rumble and motion sensing can't go together (It is? WiiMote anyone?)

Then bring in a half implemented motion sensing stuff in a PLAY IT SAFE old PS2 controller design (why not the boomerang if they want to take risks?), unlike the real revolutionairy WiiMote.

Then make it having almost NO implementation in games at all.

So what's the use then of that device?

You just did sh!t on the wrong place dude. Sony f*cked up way more.
MS is just saying: if the gamers want it we'll make it. But it seems if they're not. And they're right.

I and many real gamers don't want to swing around the room. Yeah with the Wii bowling, friends and beer it's fun. But not for intense gaming when I am gaming on myself. I don't want my neighbours to think that they have a jumping baboon living right besides them.

Basicly: Sony betted on the wrong risk there dude

Keyser3580d ago

That's my only problem with MS. They wait and see. They will not lead. Personally, my opinion, based on observation, not factual...They make pretty good products but it's never anything new, it's always a reaction.
I own a 360 and haven't had any problems. I like the games coming up for it but I do not look to Microsoft for advancement in gaming. Sony is necessary for advancement and MS is necessary to keep Sony honest and on their toes.
Yin and Yang. Gaming needs both. (Let's not forget Nintendo, also necessary to keep the focus on games)

mart you couldn't sound more stupid if you tried, lets look at your points

"Cut Rumble which is used in every game, with saying rumble and motion sensing can't go together (It is? WiiMote anyone?)"

-Yeah, i agree with you. What are you talking about though? I was talking about an industry playing things safe when designing their console, not industies lying about stuff. Talk about senial...

"Then bring in a half implemented motion sensing stuff in a PLAY IT SAFE old PS2 controller design (why not the boomerang if they want to take risks?), unlike the real revolutionairy WiiMote."

-Sony really was going to make the boomerang a reality had it not been for the massive outcry of how crap it was. So sony reverted to the massively popular ps2 controller design. But you know, i guess according to you sony should have went with the boomerang even though everybody hated it. You're deluded. And no, it doesn't have as much motion functionality as the wiimote. But it also has the best of both worlds being motion AND a normal controller. Sick of motion games? Use it like a normal controller. Want something extra? Use motion. Unfortunately the 360 controller doesn't have an option. Oh well. But's whats this article about? Hmm, motion sensing isn't all that bad.

"Then make it having almost NO implementation in games at all."

-It could have more implantation but it's not like it has NO implentation. You can steer the car with it in Motorstorm and Formula One. You use it in fl0w. You use it in Lair. You use it in Resistance. You use it to fly in WarHawk. But according to you, it has almost NO implentation at all. Senial.

No mart, the point i was bringing up is in what ways does MS go outside the box with xbox?

Main features and design:

Xbox - Standerd PC tech with Xbox Live as its killer app; DVD drive
Xbox 360 - Standerd PC tech with Xbox Live as its killer app; DVD drive

Main features and design:

PS2 - DVD drive, online capabilities
PS3 - Cell Processor Chip (Incredibly powerful; researched with the thought of including it in ps3), Blu-ray (Massive storage; researched with the thought of including it in ps3), much advanced online system; Home(something that isn't 'first-language' to sony), wifi, bluetooth, motion-sensing, psp compatibilty, freely compatible hard-drive, HDMI 1.3, etc

Get the idea? Sony invests heavily into pushing technology to the max. Microsoft sticks with what it knows and nothing outside it. Play it safe. wow...exciting...

Put it another way; with a slight graphical downgrade, are there any xbox 360 games that couldn't work on the xbox?

(With physics and amount on screen simultaneously in mind) with a slight graphical downgrade are there any ps3 games that won't work on ps2? Yep. Think Motorstorms mud ruts, some of resistance's weapons, little big planet, MGS4 shear game size, the amount of soldiers in Lair all doing their own thing...play b3yond

Just one of those things u know thats gonna cause a stir especially with the release of the elite and it not have motion sensing.

techie3580d ago

I think it kind of defeats the object. You need to start from the begining and build it in so games can be developed with it. It wouldnt make sense to change now...perhaps.
