True "hardcore" gamers love the Wii

N+Dpad writes:
"There are several people who claim that the Wii isn't quite next-gen enough for them simply because its graphical-processing power isn't as high as the competition's. Ironically, these people typically refer to themselves as "hardcore gamers."

I feel I'm a gamer and I enjoy both hardcore and casual games.
Ying and Yang

Delive3101d ago

My opinion of the Wii is unchanged though. I own a Wii and it has come to the point where I don't want to play it. I say I want to play punch out, but don't. I say I want to Wii bowl, but I don't. Due to the focus on Shovelware to make quick and easy money, my view of the Wii has gone downhill from the jump. I enjoy the Hardcore and the Casual markets, but I am satisfied with the casual games on the PS3 and the 360.

Product3101d ago

Have you seen the games being announced for the Wii as of late?

Delive3101d ago

I ask you in a friendly conversation, what do you see coming for the Wii that interest you?

Product3101d ago

In all honesty for me personally I'm looking forward to:
Dead Space Extraction (looks intriguing)
No More Heroes 2 (loved the first)
Resident Evil: DC (loved the first)
Tatsukono vs Capcom
Red Steel 2
Tiger Woods
Grand Slame Tennis

Those are games I know I will buy. Nintendo among others still have their E3 announcements and yes you could not want to play any of them, this was however what I want.

King_many_layers3101d ago

I like the idea of the tech, it's just that as others say.. the software isn't anything too special (in most cases)

for example here in uk there's one ad shown repeatedly for animal crossing I think. In this advert, all that happens is they try and catch a butterfly or they pull something out of the ground.... not my idea of fun..

also hearing the young teenage girl say hiiyyaaa, really grates at me.

Delive3101d ago

I'm not questioning your choice in gaming, that's why I asked. I will admit that I don't follow the Wii very much, so only the major announcements get my attention. I wanted to see what interest you had to see if I missed something. The Tiger Woods and RE:DC did get my attention though. I will most likely get Woods on the PS3, but I am following RE:DC to see if I will want it or not.

@ Delive

Yea it's all a matter of tastes. Me personally, I'm excited the most for Motion Plus compatible games, and speaking of Tiger......you just can't go wrong with Tiger Woods

For most ppl its not the graphics that pull ppl off from buying a wii or playing it. Its the games.

All the power Ps3 and X360 can be used for completely different things that just graphics. This includes things that can have relatively big effect to fun factor. Things like AI, more enemies on screen, destructible environment, big world of sandbox games, massive multi-player games (M.A.G, Resistance2, MMORPG:s) etc etc

There are few good HC games on wii, but few are not enough when comparing to the mountains of good HC games for PS3 and X360.

Product3101d ago

"Gamers however should consider all factors of a game when they go to purchase one, placing emphasis on what’s most important to them in a game. While graphics may top some gamers’ lists we think some form of “fun factor” would top the lists of most."

Regardless if you have fun like the article states why would anything matter?

sunday_times3101d ago

People just want to play FUN games that appeal to them.

The genre, how many players online or how many polygons the console can push are secondary to fun.

TruthbeTold3101d ago

Just wanted to point out for you that the Nintendo guys at IGN are saying that this year's Tiger Woods on Wii with Wii motion plus is the best golf game ever made. If you do have a Wii, you may want to check it out since you enjoy golf games.

Viper73101d ago (Edited 3101d ago )

@sunday_times

Those where just examples that tell that its not all about graphics, the point is what Wii can do other consoles could do better. If theres a great game with fun idea on wii, theres no technical restrictions on HD-consoles that would make it impossible to be played on them.

edit:

Also you said
"People just want to play FUN games that appeal to them. "

The genre, how many players online or how many polygons the console can push are secondary to fun."

its not our job to question if some players just want to have gore in their games. Some ppl might just want to break up the real life tension just by smashing hunreds of ai controlled enemies to death with violent methods. They enjoy it and its fun factor for them so why judge them?

Some ppl love to compete in online games and they love the sense of feeling of competition and owning ppl. They might also enjoy to get bragging rights or increasing size of their e-penis trough better stats and ranks. Its a fun factor for them, why judge them?

Some ppl want to experience worlds very different from the one we live in, they want to explore these worlds and admire the impressive graphics that the developers have made for them. For them gaming is a experience a jorney to another world. IF they love games great graphics that can help them get in to the game world why judge them? its fun factor for them

To these ppl These things are FUN theres no real "secondary to fun" in games. So stop this useless MY OPINION > YOUR OPINION!

you forgot :
"oboro muramasa "

i'm like you i have a wii and a Ps3 and i enjoy both casual and hardcore games on both consoles ..

darthv723100d ago

To me it isnt about the type of game and system you play most but about how dedicated you are to the concept and idea that "gaming" implies. With that said, a hardcore gamer is one who would buy and play pretty much any game for any system (good and bad) and find enjoyment as a whole. I classify myself as hardcore simply because I came from the roots of gaming and still to this day enjoy stepping back in time to relive where it all comes from.

Just recently I expanded my collection to include a lynx, neogeo pocket color and game gear. I have been a collector of consoles and games since pong and can say that there is good and bad but overall it is all part of the experience.

The current idea that you have to play only the 360 or PS3 and the gruesome titles above the casual makes you "hardcore" is completely false. However, to each their own. I have defined hardcore as it pertains to me. If you don't agree with it, I can respect that so long as you can respect my POV.

"Hardcore" really is just a lame title geeks came up to make their hobby sound more mature to their friends.

Product3101d ago

agreed, I remember when there was no label. I won't lie I owned TMNT and Street Fighter 2 on the same system with Mario Paint. No matter what genre you own as long as it's fun

Viper73101d ago

"Hardcore" is actually the less offensive term for gamer that invests a lot of time in to gaming. The more offensive term for similar thing which was invented probably by the "Casuals" or "less Hardcore gamers" is "No-Life".

Since gaming nowadays is widely popular hobby, its good for press and other ppl to address these ppl with less offensive words just to sound less provoking and still be able to address them equally as well.

SL1M DADDY3101d ago

Sorry, but you do not have to force yourself in playing "Shovelware" like the borage of Wii titles to be considered a true gamer or "hardcore". If Ninty would have been a bit more selective in the titles presented on the Wii, perhaps it would not have the rep of being a trash heap in shovelware titles. There are a few good titles but they are tough to come by these days on the Wii. You have to sift through way too many crap titles to find the few gems that are out there.

Smacktard3100d ago

How are good titles hard to come by on the Wii? Does the shovelware beat them up and kick them off of store shelves? You do realize that the PS2 was the most popular console of last gen, and most of the shovelware on the Wii are ports of -- you guessed it -- PS2 shovelware games.

SinnedNogara3100d ago

Incorrect.

Wii gamers are true gamers because they don't care how shiny a game is, they do care if the game is FUN.

sunday_times3101d ago

Its really simple

Graphic whores and 24/7 online gaming geeks hate the Wii.

PinkUni3100d ago

i am both

and I HATE THE WII

hatchimatchi3101d ago (Edited 3101d ago )

this is dumbest argument and it's complete bs because no one would have ever said this with the gamecube or n64, but passionate nintendo fanboys have to justify why the wii is extremely weak when it comes to it's software library.

Some people tease the wii cause of it's inferior graphics but i don't care about graphics. To me gameplay is more important and i don't enjoy playing mini games or waiting months upon months for a decent title to come out. The wii is weak, that's not me hating nintendo, that just me calling it how i see it.

Before this gets flooded with lists of all the games that aren't mini game oriented. I know these games exist, but i don't want to play them. I want the gaming experience that my ps3 can provide for me. Mario Galaxy was awesome, MP3 is awesome. All of the other games don't do anything for me. Motion control is over rated and 9 times out of 10 extremely gimmicky.

SaiyanFury3101d ago (Edited 3101d ago )

I'll agree with you. No doubt the Wii has it's core-appealing games, and I'm happy that it does. Lord knows my wife loves Okami and Super Mario Galaxy as well as Super Paper Mario, but beyond it's limited library of core games, the main audience is people who don't normally play games. My mother-in-law has a Wii just for it's jump in and play mechanic, as does her sister. The controller is a great function of engineering, but for a lot of gamers it's just something that doesn't work when it comes to a lot of games. It's not precise to be honest and in a lot games, precision is necessary. I won't call the Wii "weak". I just say that the audience is different than most PS3 and 360 gamers.

Graphics be damned, I'm glad that people can enjoy it. It's a functional system, but when added to a home theatre it comes wanting. It's a good system for people wanting either a jump in and play approach and don't care about HD graphics. For those of us that want more the PS3 and 360 offer more as well as lots of games with more substance.

matey3101d ago

where do u get this information that motion plus is gimmicky look most people that have a brain no that there are games coming that outshine 360 games in the graphics department try MONSTER HUNTER 3,GLADIATOR AD,GRINDER,NEXT MARIO GALAXY WILL MOST DEFO OUTSHINE 360,NEXT ZELDA WILL EASILY,WHEN I SAY THIS I MEAN GRAPHICS IN MY OPINION ON SOME GAMES ARE BETTER GRAPHICALLY NOT RESOLUTION WISE BUT GRAPHICALLY IMAGINE MARIO GALAXY IN 1080P THERE ISNT A GAME ON THE 360 THAT WOULD COMPARE TO THAT GAME RUNNING IN 1080P THATS FINAL SO THERE AND OH 480P IS QUITE ENOUGH FOR ME,360 GAMES ARE LIKE VERY SHARP XBOX 1 GAMES IN MY EYES,AMD WII GAMES HAVE BEEN DOWNSCALED TO MAKE THE HD SYSTEMS LOOK BETTER IN THE GRAPHICS DEPARTMENT IN PURE GRAPHICS THE GAMECUBE DID BETTER GAMES THAN XBOX 1 EASILY MY OPINION AND MOTION PLUS MAKES SPORT GAMES MUCH MORE HARDCORE BASICALLY THATS THAT

hatchimatchi3100d ago

i didn't say motion + is gimmicky, it's not even out yet so i can't judge it yet. I meant waggle based games. You must be taking crazy pills if you think that wii games will look better than 360 games, It's not possible. The hardware is completely different. Also, using gladiator a.d. and the grinder as sources is kinda silly, the games were announced like 48 hours ago.
