Nofi from TheSixthAxis writes "inFamous isn't a system seller and, all things considered, isn't even a guaranteed sale to anyone but the most hardened Sony fanbase."
Wow. Kind of a lame review, if you ask me. Infamous is this year's first AAA open-world game, and it's probably going to be this year's highest-rated open-world game, too. They even say at the end: "despite a seemingly negative review, overall we did enjoy the first play through because it’s a good game and the free-running and shooting are second to none." So basically, they say "We liked the game and the free-running is the best out there, but we still decided to give it a 7/10." Huh? Explain, please.
i don't hav time to read it so could someone tell me wat they didn't like about it?? plz?
"inFamous isn't a system seller and, all things considered, isn't even a guaranteed sale to anyone but the most hardened Sony fanbase." we all knew that new IPs arent system sellers but.. serious.. the demo blew me away and a lame review from one site aint gonna change the fact. Plus i've got 50+ other sites that are willing to vouch inFAMOUS is one of the top releases of 09 :/ i guess not every1 has good tastes in gaming
Perhaps these 50+ site only like playing through a game once... or they get swayed by hype Will anyone be playing though this a third or fourth time...I don't think so
7 isn't a bad score... A lot of reasonable minded people think it actually means good Just not great. And enjoying a first play though doesn't mean you're going to be playing it in a years time... which something like Vice City made me do, therefore in the reviewers opinion how could it be 'great' or unmissable' if the game is enjoyable and satisfying then perhaps a 'good' score of 7 is reasonable
You'll be swallowing those words when Red Dead Redemption is released. that's guaranteed to be SSS, inFamous is BBB (GR 87) which is a great score but by no means AAA.
not a system seller?? lol strangely Ive heard from many "xbox only" owners that actually like this game and are considering to buy a PS3 with infamous as first ps3 game ot that have said "they would buy infamous if it was on 360", way more people than for example Killzone 2 or Uncharted. Just check the comments on gametrailer's infamous videos.
In his secret diary, the Editor in Chief of The SixthAxis writes, "Sony is unwilling to provide official support. We will therefore write reviews that will teach Sony a lesson and they will want us on their side. After all, it worked for Kotaku and those guys keep unjustly stabbing Sony. This new review I just approved for inFamous is troubling. We did say some fairly baseless things about the game in order to make it look bad. Hopefully the idiot public won't catch on. But if we are honest and give this game the 9 it deserves we will be accused of being Sony pawns"
I'm not clicking the link but "inFamous isn't a system seller and, all things considered, isn't even a guaranteed sale to anyone but the most hardened Sony fanbase" is a fanboy statement which says nothing about the game, just about whether they think sony is winning or not.
"inFamous isn't a system seller and, all things considered, isn't even a guaranteed sale to anyone but the most hardened Sony fanbase." review the game not the fanbase kthxbye
Is it just me, or did this review seem more of a PS3 review than a game review. I don't know, I'm not upset about the score at all; 7 is still an ok score.
It's just another person's opinion guys. Chill the phuck out. There's a Demo on PSN; if you like it, then buy the game.
They --> DID <-- explain... but it seems like you won't read. The review score reflects --> MORE <-- than just the gameplay... to find out WHAT ELSE was considered --> READ the review.
In the words of Maddox - "...who emphasize every other word when they type as if you can somehow hear their obnoxious cadence in your head, for example: "we didn't go to the store, but we DID buy a cake." Cool it Shatner, we don't read in the same voice you speak. "
PWNED!!!! Please see above for the ownership!^^^
You do realize that you are defending a game that you haven't even played yet, right? Sure, we have all played the demo, but that's not the complete package. He could very well be right. It's not going to affect my purchase, but it's entirely possible that his score is dead-on.
The site is obviously looking for hits. It's got an amateur-ish vibe and they say 7 = great. There's nothing wrong with that, but Quantum of Solace got an 8, Singstar got a 9, and Wheelman got a 7.
Cheese how can the demo be better than the full game with all the powers unlocked and u choosing ur path, more special moves, blowing stuff up, etc. I dk just seems wierd
Well Cheese I and many others have played the demo and that experience though brief completely obliterates what the writer of this ridiculous article has to say. And if you read the article then it is obvious the writer never played inFamous either...
Correction: Some of have played the full version (including me). People do get the game early you know. Honestly I think the reviewer got caught up in the hype. Review the game, not the hype.
@GWAVE and the others b!tching about the review Have you even played the game yet?
A 7... What What Who! Well do I trust this sites 9or so short paragraph review or do I trust IGNs, in depth 4 page & video review. Hmmm
Because it won't help sell systems... It is not deserving of a high score? So in the opinion of the review, if a game does not sell, it is not great. In other words, sales makes great games... Sorry, but this review is an epic fail. It only feeds the fanboy wet dream of sales being the sole purpose of great games. IMHO, great games can go both ways. They can sell well or not. Ico was a great game and sold horribly. GTA4 is an "ok" game and solk like crazy. Sales do not make great games, period.
My favorite game of this generation (thus far) is Uncharted. Uncharted's Metacritic score is an *88*! Infamous's metacritic score (last I checked) was an 87. Just because a game isn't universally loved, or doesn't get all 10's, does not mean it isn't a fantastic game. It just means that different people have different preferences/opinions. Reviews are a *very* subjective thing...
"...who emphasize every other word when they type as if you can somehow hear their obnoxious cadence in your head, for example: "we didn't go to the store, but we DID buy a cake." Cool it Shatner, we don't read in the same voice you speak. " This IS an EXAMPLE of --> every OTHER word <-- If you "hear" any so-called cadence in YOUR head... that's your problem not mine. There's a reason I've emphasized certain words, and it has nothing to do with CADENCE. It is surprising that my post is even read though... looking at how many posters in this thread didn't even READ the actual review, before they started crying about it. You seem to have a bigger issue than the way I post... there's someone that's in love with your leg, and that's da truth!
*Sigh* don't you just love N4G contributors who write up bullshit on low profiled sites just to stir up some controversy? For example, opening up the paragraph with "inFamous isn't a system seller and, all things considered, isn't even a guaranteed sale to anyone but the most hardened Sony fanbase." Pretty much proves my point.
Yep, to say all that and then give the game a 7/10 makes little sense. If they thought that only those people with Sony bedsheets should buy it then surely a 1 or 2 would be the right score, no? It's poorly written and even more poorly thought through. The demo is amazingly good fun and if the game lives up to it then I reckon I'll be rating it alongside the best games this gen so far-fluid controls, an engrossing world and some classy presentation make it a must buy for anyone with both a PS3 and a pulse so...2.5/10! Almost as good as the 3 I gave Uncharted and Gears1! Scores really are beginning to lose ANY meaning at all.
You guys are both absolutely right man Plus, from the way he started out the opening paragraph, I swear it spells out fanboyism on his part. He's basically saying that unless you are a sony fanboy, u wont like it, which is complete BS and just shows u how biased he is and how low his credibility should be. Pathetic
thats just stupid...... im buying this game couse the demo was amazing fun. i played it sooo many times now. how is it a sonyfan thing to like this game. does this mean that all the reviewers out there are sony fans? please....... its not like we dont have an alternativ.
i dont care about reviews on any site ... if you like the game,it's based on your opinion.. for example i would give ufc 10/10 inFamous looks like a solid 10/10. and i know for a fact it better than gta4
im pretty sure im gonna play infamous more than i did gta4. i just love the game mechanics. im not saying gta4 was bad or anything.
Who cares? Infamous has been getting 8s, 9s, 10s, A+, 90/100 s up and down the review boards. Of course there have to be a few haters but that doesn't matter. Even a 7 is not that bad.
But, never let it be said that just because a website is owned, affiliated, or associated with a particular brand that they won't necessarily render their own opinion and not the opinion that's in the best interests of the publisher.
They don't have the Alexa rating to get a review copy.
then why the hell are they on Metacritic? Seriously, sometimes I think that site just accepts any review on an end of the spectrum that doesn't have much support.
Which is why metacritic is a big joke.
Well he's entitled to his opinion of course, but I think it deserves more based on the demo alone.
Great score. It might be the best PS3 game this year
Better than Killzone 2? Nope. Ur entitled to your opinion but I suggest u go to metacritic or gamestats.
Colbot is so sh!t that he has an avatar from the most boring Zelda ever made...
It seems some reviewers dont always share the same taste in games. i am still getting this game cause it got too many 9's to pass up.
I have to say inFamous is looking pretty fvcking good and I will hopefully be playing it tomorrow if my pre-order is delivered from Shopto.net. It looks like it will be one of the more memorable games of the year. But as to the comments about it being the best open world game of the year; it may well be until Red Dead Redemption comes out, but then that is gona firmly take the title. I think Red Dead Redemption could possibly even take the title of best open world game out on any console so far!
Has the R* hype started already... Unbelievable, lets give it a 10 for fear of upsetting somebody
Nah Fvck hype, it just looks like a really good game! From what I've seen so far its got the engine of GTA4, but the sprawling area and choice of GTA:San Andreas. So that can only be a good thing. And as the whole Cowboy genre hasn't been done to death yet in video games it is also a relatively fresh setting.
Give me a break. Playing the demo alone tells me this game deserves at worst an 8 and probably a 9. I don't agree with those who say this city looks better than GTA 4, but it looks damn good. The gameplay seems to be pretty damn solid as well. I hope we soon get past this "post a low score to get hits on our site" mentality, but... aaahhh forget it, there's no hope.
You played a demo and you feel qualified to rate the whole game including whether anyone will play it a week after owning it? Gimme a break I played the Wolverine demo and quite enjoyed it, but i wouldn't criticise a site which gave it less than an 8-9, based on my enjoyment of a limited time with the demo.
I enjoyed the Wolverine demo too. But I won't give it a 8-9 based on the fact I didn't see anything to make me buy it! Infamous is a first day buy, based on the gameplay trailers which makes it an 8! All the good things reviewers said made it an 8.5 and the demo sealed a 9! After playing the full game, it is likely to go up to 9.5 and the second playthrough on evil will probably bring it to a 9.9! Nobody's perfect!
Dude give it a phucking rest man, some didnt like this guy's review. We all have opinions and we are entitled to them right? then the same can be said when someone has an opinion about this review. I could care less about reviews but you seem to be on some crusade defending the review. You yourself have stated no one (gamers, which is also wrong seeing as though some like myself have gotten ahold of early copies) has played the full game so who are we to judge. Wouldn't that include you?
is this. That's too low. Sucker Punch deserves better. They gave Virtua Tennis 2009 a 8 and Wanted: Weapons of Fate the same score as inFamous. Lame.
but this review will not impact the game i will still buy it
is this a review of the game's sales or something? or did the editor just put this quote to get hits?
Eighteen 90+ reviews and only three 70 reviews. 92 IGN 90 Game Informer 90 Playstation Official Magazine UK 90 GameTrailers I trust all these reviewers WAY more than TheSixthAxis.
I'd trust a review from a gamer more than from a journo who's on the payroll of a company who receives a lot of advertising money from this games publishers
Gotta love the type of gamer who thinks everyone other reviewer except for the ones they see on their more visited sites are paid off and in the pockets of companies. Show some damn proof or give it a phucking rest.
Im sorry we have actual sites and then this blog that almost nobody heard of gives it a 7 fishing for hits obviously. Im sorry but the demo alone made it 1 day purchase for me. Stop doing the hhg act it gets annoying. God they put this crap on metacritic...
Uh, this is a pretty big European, mainly English PS3 fansite, existed far before a lot of others in recent times. Its an opinionated review, besides, 7/10 is a good mark from this site.
Actually TSA is a very great and respectable site but Im surprised, never expected them to talk about sales in a review.Really low.
"inFamous isn't a system seller and, all things considered, isn't even a guaranteed sale to anyone but the most hardened Sony fanbase." I kind of like TSA to get news but that's just a childish statement which I completely have to disagree with.
this is actually a pretty fair review just didnt like the game by the sounds of it, i still think infamous is about a 9.5/10 game though
7 / 10 is not bad
7 is not bad for a not bad game. 7 IS bad for a great game. This review is bad M'kay.
just by looking at the number of comments: All 9+ reviews of Infamous don't break past the 30 comment mark. Anything less than a 9, all the MS Butt-Buddies come out of their holes with fanboy-fanatics in tow! "See!!! It didn't live up to the hype. LOLZZZ Der De Der! (all the other AAA reviews...um were...paid off by Sony)"
Yeah, but u guys gotta admit: Gametrailers giving Infamous a 9. Be honest, no one expected that.
Listen to yourself all whining about what may in fact be a perfectly good game albeit not a life changing one - plenty of review remarks have already suggested this And the thing with demos a lot of the time(notice i said a lot of the time) is they can't of course show the game as a whole. It's really only until you can experience a more fuller time with a game that you can see it for what it is I'm sure there is lots of fun to be had with this game but many reviews now have already touched on why this game isn't the best that will ever be I really don't care what games are best on what machine as both have some fine examples but some of you Sony guys are seriously drugged out with your stupid "it's a Sony game and therefor is better than anything" attitude Embarrassing And of course if you enjoyed the demo enough to want the game then no doubt you will get it.I enjoyed Too Human a whole lot and that was generally considered by media to be less brilliant than it should have been but i quite happily bought it anyway Almost all games can be fun if you want them to be
The game looks great and the demo rocks I just hope Sony markets the hell out of this game to the point where people have a headache from the mention of the game.
man are you our of your mind....Sony marketing this game to death? Dude the Halo RTS was more marketed...
Writing a very good review about a game then giving it an average score
A generic website telling us what to do!!!!
How do you like your new gaming politics? Medium or well-done?
what a BS review
