Connor Beaton writes: "There's a curious saying that goes "bad luck comes in threes". The opposite seems to be true for the Pokémon franchise, as traditionally each generation presents a successful new trilogy of games in the series. The original Game Boy games were called Red, Blue and Yellow; these were followed up by Gold, Silver and Crystal on the Game Boy colour, which, in turn, was followed up by Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald on the Game Boy Advance.
"2007 brought Diamond and Pearl to the Nintendo DS platform. One would expect to see a third game as a companion to this, in traditional Nintendo style, and here it finally is, in the form of Pokémon Platinum."
