Officials from the Virgin Games' operated Game Domain International (GDI) have announced the appointment of former Activision executive Roger Walkden as the company's CEO. In his new position, Walkden will help drive the company's global initiatives including Virgin's upcoming games download service A World of My Own.
Prior to joining GDI, Walkden served as the vice president of Activision Europe's UK, Emerging Markets and European Marketing divisions, and held multiple prior positions at Activision within sales, marketing, and operations. Based in the U.K., Walkden will report to the GDI Board, which includes Simon Burridge, CEO of Virgin Games and technology entrepreneur Chris Gorman OBE.
His experience will no doubt prove valuable to GDI, as the company looks for Walkden to help launch Virgin's digital distribution platform A World of My Own, which is being built using Simutronics' HeroEngine, and promises, says Virgin CEO Richard Branson, "to do for PC games what iTunes has done for music."
