Update: Seems as if Trophy/Profile Viewing has been made almost instantly viewable to the PS3 user. Also the Divx codec has been fixed.

If it would make feel any better, there might be a chance for FF7 appearing on PSN as FF7:Advent Children Complete release date is coincidentally the same day as Sony's E3 conference, June 2nd. Just like they release FF7 international on PSN the same day they released FF7:AC in Japan.
i've not the got the best connection in the world 18meg-down 1meg-up. but i dont like the thought of another 2hours to download an update!!
it took 3 hours tuesday, to download a 304meg update for resistance2.. truely laughable.
i like the idea of constant updates, i just dont like the idea of it taking hours to download something that takes minutes on my other console!

I've NEVER had an update of any kind take a half hour to update, let alone 3 hours. If your connection is that bad, maybe you should just give up online gaming?

Keep these updates coming Sony. Every little enhancement they add just makes my already fantastic gaming/entertainment center that much better.
i posted the stats of my connection, and yeah it's not the best. perhaps sony shaft the french(i live in france) with the bandwidth limit from their main servers or something, because the resistance update took 3 hours!! the last firmware took more tham 2 hours aswell.
so because you've never had an update that took so long i'm a tool right! you f^*king little pr**k!

Have u downloaded it? The trophies load almost instantly. This is something people asked for and Sony delivered. I can't see this as "pointless"

So, instead of jumping at you, I'll just say this: Did you buy a oGFeRNie Computer Entertainment System? No, you bought a PlayStation 3. My point is, it's not all about what updates you personally would use, and it for damn sure isn't about what the competition has. Sony will give us cross game chat when they can do it right, and be sure it's done right, and do it the PlayStation way.
If you're impatient for it, just sell it and keep your 360. Given the last trophy you got was on February 20th, it doesn't seem as if you play it too much anyway, so you probably won't miss it.
How about you do yourself a favor and sell that $600 machine to somebody that likes playing games. Sell your 360 too. You'll be doing gaming a favor.

A free update is just that, a free update. For all you know this update does some behind the scenes work to prep for an massive E3 update (which we would all love).

Yeah, it would be freaking _great_ if they had voice chat, but obviously their open-ended, non-proprietary system is handled much differently than Microsoft's very limited, proprietary system.
There are good and bad to everything, it just happens to be that the bad to Sony's design is most important to you. But don't overlook what is there, even if you don't care to use it. Sony hasn't just been sitting on their hands, doing nothing to improve the system at all. This latest firmware proves that they are listening at the least, and it's unlikely that they _aren't_ working to add in voice chat.
Speak on it. This dude owns a PS3 and should be able to gripe however he sees fit. Its crazy that this dude is completely RIGHT and so many of you act like he killed you're best friend (or did he...lol).
Updates are good...but not when they seem like patches. Loading time for trophies? Why the hell was that EVER a problem? I much prefer the Xbox model of a big few updates a year that add actual functionality, not just fix some SW bug that shouldnt have been in the first place.
