In the latest installment about imported video games, the writer discusses fan-made, doujin games based on, or including characters from, the visual novel Air. Some of the games mentioned include AirRade, Eternal Fighter Zero, Air Flight and Air Force.
Jason Young of GameZone asks: "[Chuck's Season Finale] was epic in every sense of the word; and I must admit that even though I saw it coming from a mile away, it didn’t lessen the dramatic effect for me. I still bawled, largely due to the smartly edited composition and the use of Nico Stai’s ‘One October Song.’ That said, this got me thinking about other favorite sad moments in video games and television...What game, television show or movie has made you bawl your eyes out?"
Television show? No not unless anime is counted in which case it would be yes.
Movie? No
Games? Yes. Lost Odyssey, Persona 3(if you knew what the ending meant when it happened it's sad) Final Fantasy VII, Valkyria Chronicles and a few more I'm to lazy to remember.
It's this simple. When you spend upwards of 10-60 hours(depending on the game) with a particular world and it's characters you are going to get MUCH more attached to them and care what happens. It's hard for me to care about a character in a movie when they are so short.(that's just my personal feelings on it not a fact or anything) You never get time to connect unless it's a series of movies and there hasn't been a series of movies like that for me and the same goes for a TV show(again unless you count anime)
Book; Of Mice and Men, if you don't know read it
Movie; Bugsy, when they killed Bugsy
Video game; Gears of War 2, got teary eyed when Dom had to off his wife.
Television show; Highlander, when Tess died.
I admit to let a tear fall, when playing games.
I was watching Eden Lake yesterday, and it was damn close again, but i had to swallow it, and remind my self about it's fiction...
em ya a teared abit thou not full out cry... "lost odessey" i couldnt help it game touched my soul
Saving a certain main character from hanging in Red Dead, I found myself really wanting to rescue her. when I did I got a little misty eyed. First time in a video game.
MGS3 ending almost made me cry.....almost, it was so perfect and heartbreaking at the same time. Then the credits rolled and played the only song that would have fit, I almost lost it.
the ending to that movie made my eyes watery... when it comes to heroes fighting to the death and dies with honour.. I get teary eye...
The Lost finale made me cry and some movies have made me cry also. I don't think a game has yet... keep trying devs ;)
I've never cried but Lost has given me many heart-warming moments.
As for games Shadow of the Colossus comes damn close.
Yup, Lost for me, too. Only in the Series Finale though. Charlie and Claire man, good stuff; That's what got me.
Nah, no game has ever made me cry really. I'd be lying if I said yes. Movies on the other hand have: Titanic and My girl...
Agreed. Two good movie examples BTW.Funny thing is no movies could possibly make me shed a tear untill I got older.
Oh wow, it happened when I was younger, and I suspect it would still happen today.
I almost cried for Avatar when I thought the "Aliens" were going to win the battle.
But you guys know what happened in the end! Love FTW!
I was trying to remember if I ever cried during a movie and I couldn't recall any until I saw your post. My Girl had that one seen that almost broke me. Where Vada lost it over Thomas's casket definitely had me on the verge of a meltdown. That was a seriously sad scene.
Thanks! Now I feel like a Nancy <- quoting Frank from Everybody Loves Raymond
LOl you're welcome bandit! That scene you just mentioned was something else.
Great movie.
i have to say far as in video games mgs4 did and it is the only and i mean only game to make me cry.
I think that the MGS3 ending is sadder. They're both awesome emotional endings, but I think that MGS3 beats out MGS4 in this.
Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4 made me cry because I've followed the story and was attached to the characters by the end of it.
There have been some movies that almost made me cry, but never went through with it.
This generation made me cry because it's just effed up. Plain and simple. I'm sure some of you can agree with me. This generation feels unbelievably detached from the other ones. I wanted "casuals" to start gaming so that we can play the games "hardcores" loved to play together, not so that game companies start giving their all to those who barely give a shit about them (pardon my language)!
I don't know.... I'm gonna stop now before I go ranting.
Oh, and the Dark Knight, three reasons. Hearing that Heath Ledger had died, and then watching the movie, felt so weird to me. I have seen it four times total, and still can't believe Heath had died, the ending fight was epic, I mean it's the way I wanted Arkham Asylum to end also, Batman Vs. The Joker rooftop, but knowing that the Joker would never be able to see the light of day again in Nolan's Universe is sad to me. Also, another character, not in real life dying, in possibly the worst way to die.
Games: Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots and Heavy Rain.
TV: Recently I think Lost have some Sad moments and I think the ending was saddest.
Movies: Titanic, Pursuit of Happyness.
Games, i blubbered a little when Snake was crawling through that microwave ting in MGS4
Movies, The JungleBook, Titanic, Terminator 2 (it was a LONG time ago)
the 10th episode of the pacific made my cry when they showed a scene with sledge.
Television show: A japanese show called One Litre of Tears which is based on a true story. Imho, this is one of those series you have to watch before you die.
Video Game: None. But I feel sad everytime I hear Ramza's theme and think about how sad his life is.
Movie: Wall-E... almost.
So if Kimbo Slice were to give you his hardest punch in the balls and you don't cry, I can assume you don't have any? Pardon me, but I'd cry like a little bitch...
games, no. movies, yea, the end of donnie darko and the wrestler. whenever i finally pick up the road it'll probably have me shedding a few.
Yeah The Wrestler man, i think it was more the music that made me cry, Clint Mansell's a very powerful music composer man
Valkyria Chronicles is the only game to make me cry, kinda. Just so sad when 'it' happens.
Das Boot is the only movie. As for a game, no. As for anime, no. As for manga, ALMOST: Jiraishin.
Romeo + Juliet(don't laugh) & Bicentennial Man
EDIT:
I almost forgot about Grave of the Fireflies. The sadist movie I have ever seen.
I think you mean "saddest," although me putting myself through the emotional turmoil of multiple viewing is just a little sadistic I guess. It's the best movie I've seen.
Television Show: Robotech, The fall of Toonami, Samurai Seven
Video Game: Shadow Of The Colossus, Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne
Movie: Revolutionary Road, Akira, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
How can anyone disagree with that? If you've seen the move you would have to agree that it is amazingly sad. If you have not seen it then you cannot have an opinion.
Oh yeah, this is N4G....
Whoever disagreed with that either hasn't seen it or has been diagnosed with a personality disorder.
Game- Not any one game but one that you have spent 100+ and it finally coming to an ending.
TV- One or 2 programmes but I can't remember.
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Movie- UP
I don't know why but this movie didn't really get too much praise (or I think it didn't get enough) Marley And Me. The ending was so sad and I was really crying. And I am pretty sure my brother was also but well we were hiding it of course. :)
Also I don't know if most people know about this movie (they have to watch it) Signs. Amazing movie and I actually showed this to so many people its crazy. Particularly a scene. It made me cry.
And Metal Gear Solid 4. The ending: where Otacon says, "He (Snake) had a hard life". Got me. I was crying.
There are so many I am probably missing. But yeah there are some great Games, Movies and Tv Shows out there that can make us cry. ^_^
Yea God Of War 3 when Pandora dies near the end of the game but before they get their Kratos become a father figure tore her its truly is amazing.
Games,no although nearly with Lost Odyssey
movies-Big Fish,Titanic, AI and any movie with Steven Seagal lol :P
tv shows-Battle star Galactica finale, havn't seen last chuck episode,or Lost finale so ill probably cry in those.
I got a bit choked up over a few reunion scenes. No video game has ever moved me so much. Maybe KOTOR, slightly.
LOST, And the only time I showed some tiers for a videogame was way back when Resident Evil 2 came out the scene where Claire & Leon kiss.
Quite a few TV shows have made me cry, a stupid amount of movies, but no games
I think I balled up in a few, like at the end of MGS4.
Games: 'Metal Gear 1' in my youth & 'Metal Gear 3: Snake Eater' in my teens. They really hit home.
(havn't played MGS4 yet and am awaiting the day that i'll purchase the sacred PS3)
TV/Film: Loads. Most recently 'Lost'...man i miss tht show.
Games. No, not even close. TV shows, no. Though I think Lost will, I still need to catch up, that show has made me emotional. I'm only on the fourth season as of now. Give it some time.
Movies. Yes. Band of Brothers and Taking Chance, as did Marley and Me, and A Perfect World. Also the finale of The Pacific as well.
Books. Awefully close but not yet. The Black Company has brought me close a couple of times.
Hmmm let me think,
TV Shows: Grey's Anatomy, Supernatural and Battlestar Galactica a little.
Books: Of Mice and Men
Movies, none unless your counting crying with laughter?
Game: No it hasn't happened for me yet, but hopefully as I have yet to feel for any character that much. I have only really ever cared about Commander Shepard but he has yet to die (technically) so :/
Movies: several. Games: not that many but for example ICO, Shaddow of the Colossus and most recently Heavy rain.
Im a new dad, anytime i see a baby hurt or its death implied on a show it really gives me problems.
i cried at 2 games... mgs3 and mgs4 when big boss had to fight and kill the boss and when he was at her grave and the fact that she died as a true patriot and at the end of mgs4 were snake is at the boss and big boss's graves and he puts the gun in his mouth and it fades away and you here a gun shot
Videogame- Gears of War 2 (Dom Killing Maria) Incredible Voice Acting.
Television Show- LOST (Many moments) Mainly the end of the final episode literally there were tears shedding down my cheeks, I was genuinly crying my eyes out...
Film- Gran Torino (Ending Gunning Scene) Fantastic actin and slight twist is superb.
I have to agree with you, Grave of the Fire Fly even though an amine, is an emotionally charged movie as it looks at the very core of human needs and suffering but in this case children. It is also significant as it somewhat based on real life events that the director of the movie experienced in his life
Another movie also from Japan is 'Nobody Knows", also based on abandon children and has a similar theme to Grave of the Fire Fly' but it is not an amine.
I guess everyone is different and what one perceived as emotional and moving may not be the same for another person. So I say each to their own, but will say that the one thing that we all share is the ability to show compassion, as this is the emotional that moves us.
Movies? Easy pick. Grave of the Fireflies is the saddest (and best) movie I've ever seen, and I've seen most of the top films from the greatest directors in history from around the world (Kurosawa, Bergman, Kubrick, Ozu, ect). The most ANGRY I've ever been as the result of a movie was the Swedish film Lilja 4-ever. I wanted to tear one of the characters apart and wrap poor Lilja in a blanket and take her to safety.
Games? Oddly, a game with quite a bit of lighthearted humor got me. There's a part in Okami in which the tide unexpectedly turns against you and your character, the god of the sun, who is in the physical form of a white wolf, is almost destroyed. This impacts the world in a way that others know that you are in trouble. A little girl asks her sister "Is that doggie crying somewhere, sis?" and every key character reminisces about your character and begins praying to help save you. It was surprisingly powerful and inspirational, and yes, it got a few tears out of me. The games from Team ICO didn't make me cry, but they did leave the most powerful and lasting impression emotionally. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 frightened me for the danger it put some key characters into, including my all time favorite character, Alyx Vance. I also seek brutal revenge for what happened at the end. I'm ordering an extra large canister of GrubEx before Episode 3 arrives.
ICO for it's sheer emotional content & tomb raider angel of darkness for it's complete sh.t factor. But ICO is legendary IMO check it out when you can ps try not to cry
The best and most underrated japan-animation of all time must be ( Grave of the Fireflies ), I bet you even those who don't like anime will definitely cry from this film.
One very important note though - Please do watch this film in it's native Japanese language with English subtitles, because you will appreciate it so much more.
I never cried at any game, but I became the most emotionally involved in MGS:4 because I fell for its cheesy, over the top Japanese style story line and loved every minute.
is gran turino and that made me cry really bad when walt gets shot by those jack@ss asian gangbangers
too many times to list them all.
i do remember crying at the end of philadelphia and at the end of grave of the fireflies, the old show bits of their life with a some appropriately sad music after they've died is pretty much guaranteed to work on me.
in games there was the ending of mgs3, if it made big boss cry, even if it was just a single tear well what chance do i have?
there was also the bit where you finally escape the spire in fable 2 and your dog comes running up to you, i've played through the game twice and most of the way through a third time and that bit always gets me.
