Microsoft Corp. today announced its intent to acquire BigPark Inc., an interactive online gaming company based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Not really into those games but still good games. Looking forward to E3 game.

mintaro5466d ago

I'm guessing this is going to be connected to whatever motion plans they have going.

Ausbo5466d ago

if they create successful first party sports games like sony have done with their nba and mlb the show series this could boost microsoft's lineup in the coming years.

morganfell5466d ago

If I was in that company I would ask the members of Ensemble what I could expect from my job regarding a long term future...

PotNoodle5466d ago

morgan, ensemble was with microsoft for 8 years, i'd say that was pretty long.

But it is nice to see microsoft building their first party back up again.

Never heard of them what games did they make?

matt2475466d ago

They've made nothing. They formed in '07 and are working on an exclusive game for the 360.

DelbertGrady5466d ago

I find it easier to read for myself instead of asking others.

Anyways...

"We are delighted by the opportunity to welcome the BigPark team into Microsoft Game Studios," said Phil Spencer, general manager, Microsoft Game Studios. "The team is composed of some of the most experienced and creative minds working in the industry today. The combination of the BigPark and Microsoft Game Studios talent pools will be an accelerant for growth and innovation. We believe BigPark has tremendous potential to create new properties and innovative gaming experiences for our platforms, one of which we're looking forward to showcasing at the E3 Expo in June."

I have a feeling MS will sh!t all over the competition at E3.

II Necroplasm II5466d ago (Edited 5466d ago )

It will take time for Microsoft to have plenty of first party studios, they have only been in the game not even 10 years yet.

@Soda
I see Soda that someone with multiple accounts is hitting the disagree button on your post.
well whatever makes them feel better.

Marquis_de_Sade5466d ago

Or it could be that we don't think MS will "sh!t all over the competition at E3".

II Necroplasm II5466d ago

Did he say do you have the feeling?

-EvoAnubis-5466d ago

I started to think MS forgot that 1st party studios are a good thing. Nice to see them using their money effectively. They need to keep this up.

ShabzS5466d ago (Edited 5466d ago )

but this company has worked/ overseen on sports related titles... nhl nfs and fifa.. must be a new sports title at e3.. but a new ip is also mentioned.. so have to wait till e3

gaffyh5466d ago (Edited 5466d ago )

I wonder how Ensemble and ACES Game studio feel. They essentially got fired so MS could buy this new studio. Although maybe this new studio has more potential...

IaMs125466d ago

Correction @ Above, they didnt "Fire" them all, although im sure many were layed off due to economic issues but anyways they were all compiled into a new studio to save money. Many of the orignial members are there still like Ensemble said it will not effect Age of Empire games, they shut the studio down to move them close in. The other hand with ACES im not sure of that story.

siyrobbo5466d ago (Edited 5466d ago )

MS still have a few first party devs, some staff from the closed studios have been absorbed into MGS, i think they may just have preferred everyone to be under one roof to pool the talent, but then what the hell do i know, maybe they are just stupid?

NegativeCreepWA5466d ago

Ensemble was turned into two studios, so really a company was added not taking away.

-EvoAnubis-5466d ago

Wrong. It didn't "turn into" anything. After MS unceremoniously shut them down, some former company members formed other studios. Three, not two: Robot Entertainment, Windstorm Studios, and Bonfire Studios.

DMA Design turned into Rockstar North. EA Redwood Studios turned into Visceral Games. Ensemble Studios was shut down, and some employees formed other companies. "Turned into" my ass.

Looking forward to seeing the new IP at E3

Elven65466d ago

Interesting, Don Mattrick is one of the founding members of Big Park which opened in 2007, hmmm?

These guys seem pretty sports oriented, maybe Microsoft is returning to the sports genre?

PirateThom5466d ago

My fist thought was the same as yours, I also figured PGR would be a likely game for them.

khsmooth5466d ago

...if we see an avatar based sports game

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker46m ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo36m ago(Edited 34m ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6926m ago(Edited 25m ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto5h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger885h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis22h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

anast21h ago

It's worth a play through today.
