TO: Internet users face regular "brownouts" that will freeze their computers as capacity runs out in cyberspace, according to research to be published later this year.
How the hell does one 'fill up' cyberspace? Too much porn, I guess.
i think porn takes up 80% of it.
Server capacity, line capacity, limited number of possible IP addresses. There's a lot of variables that could, theoretically, fill up cyberspace, but it's not like people are just sitting back waiting to see what happens.
Well, eventually going over to IPv6 will help alot, but the infrastructure itself is going to need a lot of money for upkeep and have most people on somewhat equivalent playing grounds. To me, I can see a future where each of us pay for our own internet usage. Not in flat rate for whatever we want, but for what we use. To me, digital information transfer is quickly becoming a utility - something that is required, but heavily regulated. I think if the day ever comes that it is fully treated as a utility, then we will end up paying for what we use, much like we do with electricity and water. The ISP's will then be allowed to charge up by the GB, but are regulated enough to not be allowed to gouge us. And it would also probably curtail some of the senseless bandwidth usage that exists today. Not that I particularly want that to happen, but I could definitely see that eventually happening.
I reached the end of the internet this one time! >:D
So much for the digital distribution idea that everyone has been tossing around. And I guess this goes triple for On-Live. One would have thought a massive statement would have been issued around the world entitled; "OMG!!! WE R RUNNING OUT OF THE INTERNETS!!! LIKE OILZ!!!!!1111"
Don't believe everything you read. This smells fishy to me.
this is the same thing they said ten years ago... and the ten before that.
