IGN: Velvet Assassin Review

From IGN:

"Take, for example, Violette Szabo, a British secret agent decorated for her service during the war. Replay Studios and SouthPeak Games, inspired by her story, created Velvet Assassin, a stealth action title that places players deep behind enemy lines to wreak havoc on the German army. Unfortunately, a weak story and very inconsistent stealth elements severely hinders the gameplay. "

dunno why, I thought this was gonna be at least decent...shame

Gamer_Politics3455d ago

why?couldnt u tell this game was going to be garbage from the trailers...

butterfinger3455d ago

sounded pretty cool. I guess it just wasn't carried out properly.

morganfell3455d ago

I became worried after the first bit off footage released. At that time it seemed to be going great. And then with the second round of video the art style shifted, the character went from Anne Parillaud to Peta Wilson, and I started to get a bad feeling.

mxdan3455d ago

Tried to copy Metal Gear and failed miserably.

BWS19823455d ago

high hopes for this game, as well as the concept of it. I wonder what the collective consensus will be over the next batch of (legit) reviews.... I really liked the idea, but didn't follow it closely enough to notice a downward slope of any

Traveler3455d ago

Well, I am a big fan of stealth/action games like Tenchu, Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell, but I have to admit that I had a pretty strong feeling that this game was going to end up being mediocre.

A lot of times when a 3rd party developer decides to make a game solely for the 360 it is because they don't have the talent or the resources to do a proper multi-platform title, which doesn't bode well for the quality of game that eventually is released. There are exceptions, of course, but this is the tendency that I see born out over and over again.

dragunrising3455d ago

It seems as though the rumors were true and the development was bumpy. Too bad as it seemed like it had potential.

BWS19823455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

to state that I don't consider IGN to be "illegitimate" by default (I just reread my post and took it another way)...IGN is hit or miss, but generally more trustworthy than dumps like Kotaku and others that blast their bias all over your face while reading...

I meant to say, I'm eager to see a jumble of reviews on this game, to see if the scales tip up (or even down, who knows)...

kingme713455d ago

GameCock was publishing before they were absorbed by SouthPeak. Every thing they touch turns into a pile of stinking poo: Hail to the Chimp, Legendary are stellar examples.

morganfell3455d ago

Remember how they appeared on the scene as the unconventional publishers. At least that is what they made themselves out to be when in reality they were a group of idiots.

I agree with you the trailer looked like $h!t

Namikaze_Minato3455d ago

Another day, another flop only on the 3fixme!

B..bu...bu...but we have teh SALEZ!

Eiffel3455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

I've seen some serious irony with ps3 fanboys on this site. Whenever a title is 360/PC and is a success they claim to say "Oh its better on the PC anyway" And when a title that's both 360/PC does bad they go on to say "Flop only on 360" Despite you can play it on the PC aswell. Like in some form its a 360 exclusive..retarded much?

EDIT: Ah disagrees. Now I know I'm right.

Traveler3455d ago

Oh, don't you dare. Don't you dare.

Don't you know that sales are all that matter?

I mean, I can't explain why I am a 360 fanboy instead of a Wii fanboy, seeing how the Wii is stomping the 360 into the ground in sales, but I still think sales numbers are the most exciting and important things in the world.

Don't worry. As long as Velvet Assassin ends up selling a couple million it still has a chance to become a "good game". But we won't know that until we see how well it has sold. Funny how that works.

Traveler3455d ago

There is no contradiction in what you are describing.

If a game is good and is available for both the PC and 360, then of course gamers who own a PS3 and a gaming PC are correct in saying that they can get the game on PC.

On the other hand, if it is a bad game then nobody has to buy it. But it doesn't change the fact that one of the games that might have otherwise been good on the 360 has turned out to be a disappointment.

I see no hypocrisy there.

The truth is, I like both of my consoles (360 and PS3), but one thing makes me argue against the 360 fanboys on this site more than anything and that is the fact that all they want to talk about are sales. That mentality is nothing but a big negative on gaming in general. Not to mention it is ridiculously hypocritical. If sales are so important to the individual gamer everyone of those diehard 360 fanboys should have switched their allegiances to the Wii from the moment it started outselling the other two consoles, if they had any consistency.

How many times has a good game been overlooked because the stupid tendency of many gamers to use sales as the main gauge of whether a game is good or not? I despise the morons that talk about sales as if they are what really matter. And if somewhere down the line PS3 gains dominance in sales and PS3 fanboys start acting like sales are what matter, I will be arguing against them just as vociferously. I find that mentality threatening to what I really care about in gaming: the quality of my gaming experiences.

"If sales are so important to the individual gamer everyone of those diehard 360 fanboys should have switched their allegiances to the Wii"

Exactly! I've said before that every Xbot butt-buddy must be a closet Wii-maniac. Short-term sales are what display the conquest and superiority of a console to them...nevermind if the sale disparity is only 3-5 figures at the most in favor of the xbox. MS fanboys still party like its 1999 because their allegiance to the Xbox 360 can only be rationalized now by their desperate sales supremacy argument.

They bragged about the games...Now PS3 tops them on that.

They bragged about PSN inferiority...Now that offers more and better games and content with the service free of charge.

They bragged about multi-platform graphical that is null in void.

Besides sales, all they have left to reinforce their fanboyish supremacy is...DLC

...Yeeeaaahhh sure.

Queers of War3455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

Because it's true. So basically you are right. I don't think it's irony on anyone's part. It is what it is.

Oh right, I forgot.

n to the b3455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

@Traveler: I assure u, if PS3 does take the lead there will be more sales talk from sonyfans on n4g. in fact, despite some of them calling 'xbots' salesmongers they already do talk sales themselves when it suits them.

sales aren't everything. and I agree that too many sheep look for just that these days. but don't forget that a console with higher software sales in general can mean more devs are willing to risk their new IPs on that platform. even though PS3 has more new IPs these days due to other circumstances, that is still a 360 advantage (for now at least).

I like your comment though, some good points. I give u and Eiffel both agrees and bubs.

PSP23455d ago

phew thank god its not on ps3

DarkSavior3455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

Vampire Rain still leached onto the PS3! Barf!!!! Update: How is that a disagree? The games stunk on 360 and it still made it's way to PS3, that's a fact!

BWS19823455d ago (Edited 3455d ago )

for all we know, a re-release with improvements/fixes will head to the PS3 a la Sigma and Red Alert 3 (or to the 360 and PC, like Alone in the Dark: Inferno)...who knows, maybe IGN would review "that hypothetical version" and give it a 7.5 relative to this review...never know...I say the more games the better. IMO, very few games are "unfixable" to an absolute degree. That is to say, almost any game could be "repaired", just look at a review...9 out of 10 times, the negatives could have been altered and/or avoided.

chrisnick3455d ago

dachiefsman3455d ago

Would you have bought it if it was on the ps3, probably not.

I was hoping for this one to be at least decent. It seems like an unfortunate case of good idea but poor execution. I still might rent it just to check it out.
