IGN: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Lives

The fact that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 would be re-released in some fashion has been one of the Internet's worst kept secrets. Well, now it is official. Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the beloved 2D fighting game, is coming to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this summer. All of the same classic matchups are back -- just as you remember them -- only now they look better than ever. IGN recently had the opportunity to try out the updated game and have a look at the new features.

It's okay for Bloodmask to report other duplicate stories (and funny how they get removed quickly..) but when it's his that's a duplicate it stays?...BS

Lots of Marvel V Capcom 2 articles coming in. Glad to know it's getting a lot of attention, means a lot of people to face online :)

DARKKNIGHT5476d ago (Edited 5476d ago )

as long as its not over 15 dollars. the game is still almost a decade old, not to mention im sure several of you true gamers saved this gem from last gen.

honestly, i love this game. to be brutally honest even the original versions seemed to cut out frames of animation. In the videos ive seen so far, this version is exactly the same as far as animations. you can clearly tell, where they needed to add more frames for a more fluid look.

IdleLeeSiuLung5476d ago (Edited 5476d ago )

n4g just exploded with MvC2 news. The ign one has the best coverage of details about the game instead of a rehash.

I'm looking forward to this game, but it is not an HD remix. I would have preferred a HD remix of MvC2 instead of SSF2T.

$15 bucks is a steal for this game. In fact, all the Capcom fighting related games have been a steal so far at $15/each.

Myst5476d ago

Someone just told me it will be 14.99 so just barely close to 15.00 if you want to be technical heh :p. Though compared to Ebay prices this is as Idlelee said, a steal pretty much.

DARKKNIGHT5476d ago (Edited 5476d ago )

well, i have my ps2 disc.

i am not further bothered by the ps3s pixelation, as i chose to boot game at 480p and got used to that.

ONE THING THOUGH

online. It heavily factors in my purchase. I hope i see you guys online, we should hold tournaments, and see whos the sh1t?

Click agree if you're buying it for PS3. Click disagree if you're buying it for the Xbox 360.

Bnet3435476d ago

What happens if you are buying for both?

Venomish5476d ago

demo this thursday on PSN
buying it the minute it comes out this summer

Gue15476d ago

How come IGN has an Xboxlive channel and not a PSN channel?

DNAgent5476d ago

lol @ people who actually use the 360 controller to play fighting games.

Bnet3435476d ago

Only amateurs are the ones that use controllers. Let me know when a pad user wins a major tournament.

20 Years Ago, Marvel vs Capcom 2 Delivered a Legendary Crossover

Everyone is trying the shared universe thing these days, but Marvel and Capcom were mashing up their most beloved characters decades ago. Perhaps their best crossover effort was Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, which was released on the PlayStation 2 & Xbox on Nov. 19, 2002, in North America. Previous releases took place in arcades and on Sega’s beloved but ill-fated Dreamcast console. Later releases came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s digital storefronts.

Former employees of Backbone Entertainment have formed a new company called Digital Eclipse. On Twitter studio head Mike Mika confirmed they would love to help the fans. In addition to having ported MvC 2 before, the studio has worked with Disney on re-releases of the Disney Afternoon Collection, Aladdin and The Lion King. Legions of fans are waiting for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to take them for one more ride.

Please work it out. I have fond memories of this fighter game. Not to mention the sequels just aren't as balanced as this game was.

Absonite948d ago

Balance? MvC2?! It was totally batshit unbalanced, but that's what made it fun.

sourOG948d ago

I laughed hard at balance lol. It is completely f***ing broken. Balance isn’t what people are looking for. Mk11 was the most balanced MK ever and the overall consensus was “restrictive and boring”.

PurpHerbison948d ago (Edited 948d ago )

For the noobs and average players it can be seen as balanced but at the highest competitive level it is absolutely broken. There was a ratio mod released recently that is actually pretty interesting and allows way more of the cast to see some play.

RedDevils948d ago

You can always balance my bank account.

Teflon02948d ago

No one cares about balance in MvC2. Games all about being unbalanced lol. If it was, it likely wouldn't be good

Lexreborn2948d ago

MvC2 is so unbalanced pros make special brackets to limit the amount of clone teams this game has at high levels. Even now Justin Wong and others have only been playing with the character cost format to make it interesting.

CrimsonWing69948d ago (Edited 948d ago )

Did you ever play as Cable or play someone else who was using Cable? This is an incredibly unbalanced game and honestly some of the most fun is making a redonkulous team and just clapping cheeks.

KwietStorm_BLM947d ago

Balanced... Storm, Sentinel and Magneto breathe a sigh of relief.

I really enjoyed the game on Dreamcast.

A lot less when it was later re-released on newer systems, because I believe all characters were already unlocked instead of you playing to unlock them. The SP experience on those re-releases was just ‘less’ than the Dreamcast version, which was a bit disappointing.

Would love a proper HD remake/remaster, if given the care & love it deserves (instead of a quick cash-grab with a mediocre port).

Would also love to see Capcom release a FullHD port/renaster/remake of Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (psp).

Teflon02948d ago

Seeing the Alpha games storyline is being promoted in SFV, with all the mainline titles, it really should get one

WiiU-Dude948d ago

I'm very interested in this.

Vandamme21948d ago

Why not just make a new game

CrimsonWing69948d ago

Well, they uh… tried that already and…

BlaqMagiq1948d ago

They did. And it was extremely mediocre.

PurpHerbison946d ago

Not sure what you mean though. Marvel 3 was pretty damn good and Marvel Infinite was too. Infinite just suffered from poor graphics but the gameplay and netcode was actually pretty solid.

FallenAngel1984948d ago

I want them to rerelease the entire Marvel vs Capcom series on modern platforms, from X:Men Children of the Atom to Marvel vs Capcom 2

I’d also love for the next Marvel vs Capcom title to live up to its series legacy rather than being a disappointment like Infinite

CosmicTurtle948d ago

I said the same thing without seeing your comment. X-Men vs Street Fighter and MSH were stunning games. They look great to this day.

I did not mind MvC3 and ultimate but the last entry was dire.

Godmars290948d ago

And I want them to go back to 2D - know THAT'S not happening!

Nice compromise would be something stylized towards what Guilty Gear does than their own attempts at 3D.
