WTP Review: The Godfather II

Though it shares a title, The Godfather II isn't a direct adaptation of Coppola's cinematic classic. Instead, it makes use of specific elements and loosely associates itself with the storied film franchise through certain settings and characters (it is set during the 1960s portion of the story). It doesn't mirror the plot of the movie in any way either - rather, it continues the story from the first Godfather game, tasking the player with creating and maintaining their own powerful "family" of Mafioso thugs and criminal operations.

Gameplay in The Godfather II is a mix of action and strategy elements. The "open world" element of the game is very similar to the Grand Theft Auto titles, encompassing several different cities and providing players with a variety of missions and objectives. Being a mafia member, you'll frequently be called upon to put people impeding your "business" or bothering those asking you for favors in their proper place (i.e. six feet under) – often in very violent ways. Planning out who to target, who to put pressure on, and who to do favors for is an important part of the game, and provides a strategic element to break up the action sequences. You'll also be able to recruit and command underlings to take care of your "dirty work" should you not be in town when a rival family decides to horn in on your territory. Your men aren't quite as skilled as you are, however, so outfitting them and preparing them for the job is also important.

Videogames and the Oscars

gamrReview's Xavier Griffiths: "Movie tie-in games have a reputation for being notoriously bad and shoddy, doing both a disservice to the original film and videogames as a medium. More often than not the movies that get adapted into videogames are high octane, action-oriented summer blockbusters and the aim is simply to extract as much money from the market as possible. Realistically no one expects games based on trashy films such as Catwoman, The Cat in the Hat, or Eragon to be good in the first place, but what about games based on films that have garnered recognition for the highest award in cinema?"

What the heck is wrong with EA. Some of those games aren't even two years old. Hardly even a year and a half some of them.

And they only JUST put that simpsons game on psn and xbl, and they're pulling the plug already?

Yeah I'm glad I got that as a PS plus game because I'd be pissed if I bought that

EA need to change their business tactics, it's obvious they are bleeding money even with all the sports franchises they hold.
