Epic: No Exclusive Love For PS3

Epic Games vice president Mark Rein says that the Gears of War developer won't be doing a PlayStation 3-exclusive game, but that it's nothing to do with the system's likelihood of success - which he thinks is enormous.

Asked by GamesIndustry.biz why he wasn't doing one, Rein said, "I think that bird has flown the coop already on PlayStation 3 - they're not making launch titles any more, and we couldn't just start up a game tomorrow as an exclusive because it takes a few years.

Exclusives cost money, Sony obviously wasn't interested in paying for one, now its too late. We are very popular now, so Sony would have to pay us a sh!tload of money.

[Edit] ha, ha I don't know how but I guess I offended someone and they want to take my bubbles, who cares all I need is one.

I couldn't make any sense out of his explanation unless I read your interpretation into it. Common sense tells me that making an exclusive title at launch, when you aren't really sure how briskly the console will sell, is a lot riskier than making an exclusive after the console has successfully penetrated the market and sold enough units. So I don't get the logic behind his whole "timing" thing unless he is indeed implying that Epic has gotten too big for anything Sony may have to offer at this time.

they should have brought GEARS OF WAR WHEN THEY HAD A CHANCE, AHHH well!

If there was an exclusive you wouldn't hear about it till 2-3 years from now. I don't really think Epic only does launch titles

Violater3802d ago

people read and understand what they want.

Sorry if you didn't like my comments but its not like they were anti-PS3, actually if you actually tried to understand what I was saying it just says that Sony didn't pay Epic to make an exclusive and now since Epic has had success with Gears and also the Unreal 3 engine it would probably cost alot of money to get Epic to make something exclusive which I don't think Sony would try right now.

-yeah of course Epic doesn't "only" make launch titles, but the rest of your post is "flawed" because we hear about "exclusives" all the time 2-3 yrs before they are released (Why would Sony not want the world to know, that would be great news).....hmmm, like Gears of War, yeah I guess we never heard of that game until it launched right?....and what makes your post even more unreasonable is that even the dev himself is saying that at least for now they have no plans for a PS3 exclusive, so its kind of silly to say "IF" there was an exclusive we wouldn't hear about it until 2 or 3 years from now -WTF?, so are you saying that possibly in 2 or 3 yrs they might decide to make a PS3 exclusive (quite possible, maybe even sooner) but then even if that is what you meant, Epic says it will take 2 or 3 years before its ready, so thats 4 to 6 years from a PS3 exclusive?.....please explain because your statement makes no sense to me.

^^^^^^^You are correct Violater, "people read and understand what they want". Exactly!

Didn't realize I offended you. Basically we heard of Gears 6 months ahead of time you know during that Game Convention... Yeah. Everyone reads what they want and you did just that. I like your edit on your first one. Did someone really try and get rid of a bubble? Guess you must have some extra accounts cuz you still have 8. Anyway I wasn't trying to be all up in your chit I was basically saying that Exclusive titles are usually NOT announced 3 years in advance Usually. So thanks for using me as an example but it was to no avail. I don't care about if Epic will do an exclusive or not.

Money talks and Bull $#!T walks.

No independent 3rd. party dev. would want to risk an investment with no return. EPIC has an their PR hats all day. I respect that from them because Money is a major issue. It would not be so smart to make a launch title for a console unless you’re a 1st party dev. Like Insomniac and R:FOM.
