Four years left for this console generation says EA COO

DarkZero: Speaking at the M16 Game Marketing Conference, John Pleasants, EA's chief operating officer, has commented that this generation of consoles (Wii, PS3, 360) still has many years left in them, and we should not expect a new generation of platforms to be released over the course of the next few years.

Thats right! I forgot EA owned all the console on the market. So when EA says this Gen ends, it ends ^^

i think 2 gen ends when only one console is left from that gen. it means that the others saw no point in continuing to put full effort behind that console and its time to try again with newer better technology. obviously the console that sells the most AND lasts the longest would be the clear winner of said gen.

Well, it's only natural in this economic climate for companies to milk the sucesses of these consoles for a while longer.

EA may not be the be-all-end-all in these decisions, but they can offer insight, as one of the worlds leading third-party publishers.

I thought Sony had a 10 year plan.

So what? Sony can't carry the PS3 onto the next generation like they are doing with PS2 right now?

until the next gen consoles come out and 7 years until the PS3 is scrapped.

PS3 hardware will stand the test of time. I mean, the PS3 already have HD ouput, HDD (upgradeable), the cell (seven core processor), BLU-RAY. I am sure that in four years we will be seeing the same graphical leap, that occurred between the first ps2 games and games like MGS3 and Gow.

Additionally, Nintendo already showed that there is a HUGE market of casuals that give a sh*t about graphics, so its really pointless to hurry up with a new PS when the right price (170-200$), the right software lineup (aimed to casuals) and probably some gimmickry could do the trick. In this sense, the PS3 will be in a much better position than the ps2 right now because its powerful hardware.

Even if the PS3 is in the third place, Sony meant business when they said that they are running a marathon. The PS3 is here to stay a looong time unless something terribly wrong happens.

my 3rd 360 sadly wont last that long, the DVD drive is sounding more like a jet plane engine upon takeoff...refuse to buy or repair another 360...screw MS
