Poor PC Sales Force Midway to Focus on Consoles

That Gaming Site writes: "Midway released its 2008 10-K report early yesterday morning. After going over the various facts and figures presented, many were astonished at the low company Net Revenue (1.3%) attributed to the PC platform. Because of the low figure, Midway Games have announced their intention to cease development of all PC exclusive titles and instead focus on porting established IPs to the platform."

Unfortunate how it had to come to this, Midway had some pretty good PC exclusives over the past 2-3 years.

Look at some of the trends of PC gaming in general. I love PC gaming, and although I'm not one of those "PC gmaming is dying" idiots, there really is more money in consoles. Look at Crysis, for example.

PC gaming is great when you have hundreds of pounds to spend on it every 6 months or so, with console's you can buy ANY game you like for that console and it WILL work at 100%. Buy a new game for the PC and unless you got a new AlienWare PC it will not run at 100%, it will need a faster cpu or more ram or most probably a new gfx card with 2gb onboard memory. All new PC games use the lastest drivers and graphical wizardry to make them look amazing, but on lesser powered systems they just suffer with reduced fps, fewer pixels, less graphical effects etc etc - - Its like PC game developers are never happy with the hardware most users have coz they always have to base a game on a £350 gfx card and 4gb ram -- Bloody too expensive these days.

I play PC games from time to time but I'm never interested in seeing the best, my rig is able to handle most things I throw it at so it doesn't look horrible.

How many exclusive PC games released his past year? Or in recent years?

I only remember LOTRO , in 2007 , a MMORPG

Elven63537d ago

LOTRO, Hour of Victory (kinda), Midway Arcade Treasures seires, Rise & Fall, there could be more.

Hour of Victory is a multiplataform game , I believe that was launch before in 360 than in PC, in June 2007 . Rise & Fall is of the year 2006 .

MidMidway Arcade Treasures is also a multiplataform game of the 2003 year , for PC , PS2, Xbox and Game Cube .

"Midway Arcade Treasures is a collection of 24 arcade games developed by Digital Eclipse and released by Midway for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC.

A second collection, Midway Arcade Treasures 2, was released for the same consoles in October 2004 and a third console compilation, Midway Arcade Treasures 3 was released in September 2005, except for the PC. Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play, a compilation of 21 select titles from all three volumes was released for the PSP. On February 17, 2006 Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition was released exclusively for the PC "

Only Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition was released exclusively for the PC in 2006 .

In 2007 exclusive for PC only iss LOTRO , and Unreal 3 was a temporal exclusive in PC - there is a 360 and PS3 version after a few monts .

In 2008 Midway not has exclusives for PC .
