Some PS2-to-PS3 USB adapters are locking up PS3s after the 2.70 update. It seems like the firmware bricks the unit but it's the adapter causing it, not the software. That's of little comfort to the people using the adapters though.
Every time there is a firmware update these stories about bricking come up. Has anybody had this happen to them? I don't use one of these adapters but I have never encountered any problems with firmware updates. Edit: Well after reading some other peoples comments it appears to be true. Hope they can straighten this out quickly for the people that are using them.
It's not a brick but seems like one if you don't know to unplug the adapter. Bet there are people out there right now reformatting because they don't know and they'll lose all of their game saves and installs.
*sigh* I just love it when they say "some" and not "all"
i have not had a problem yet with an update.
There is bound to be a few cases where this happens, or someone does something wrong when updating. And Sony have always been fast to correct any troubles, so 2.71 will probably come soon. The odds are slim though when it comes to hardware failure with the PS3. Unlike the russian roulette you take when buying a xbox...
Really wish I could have rented the thing from somewhere. Just one-use.
WTF. This better'd get sorted soon, I use one of these to play Calling All Cars with 3 players.
Can someone please tell me if this is true or not. I was going to buy two of these tonight but now i'm going to hold off untill i know if this is true or not.
Follow the links in the post. I have a TAC and can tell you it's a proven fact - it locks the unit up.
Does this affect PS2 to PS3 memory card adapters?
Just controller adapters as far as I've seen. My memory card one works fine.
Thanks. Hope this issue is cleared up by Sony soon, I usually use an old Dual Shock with the USB adapter as a third controller with gaming nights with friends. I would get very annoyed if this issue never gets sorted.
Just curious... edit: I don't really think it's Sony's complete responsibility to make sure their firmware is compatible with obscure third-party peripherals like this. If I understand correctly, it's actually considered voiding your warranty because you're using an uncertified device with the PS3 hardware. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though.
i have a couple old street fighter anniversary gamepads that i got for 10 bux each, i use those with adapters---6 buttons on the face. haven't used them in a while tho
"If I understand correctly, it's actually considered voiding your warranty because you're using an uncertified device with the PS3 hardware." Nah, I wouldn't say that it's voiding the warranty because the PS2 Adapters were compatible with the PS3 before the new Firmware was released without any issues without voiding a warranty, so why should it be considered voiding a warranty now that a new Firmware has caused compatibility problems with the PS3? I doubt that this was intentional by Sony, but it could be Sony's own way of saying "Spend money on PS3 peripherals"... but more than likely it was just an unplanned side effect from the new update. I've never used a PS2 Controller Adapter, and I've never experienced issues with my PS3 after an Update, so no worries here.
I had a problem with my PS3 controller. The PS3 wouldn't recognize the blue-tooth, so I just connected it with the charging cord and then it worked fine. So i can see if there were problems with the PS2 controllers.
i love the pic btw
The software side of the PS3 seems unstable One time the MLB Live The Show 2009 demo crashed my PS3 and another time the PS3 could not import CD's at times" and could at others and these were the same CD's. Seems sloppy like there are no universal standards for quality etc on the system software side of PS3.
.....as unstable as your posts Do you have any real evidence of this or is this just your opinion. Let me answer truthfully for you. "My only evidence is other N4G articles and unprovable hearsay from gaming websites that have conducted no real or substantiated testing/research, so of course what I have said should be taken as gospel." Now copy and paste the above in a reply. Actually don't....I won't read it anyway.
That's interesting, because before I bought an external HDD to store my music on my PC, I had every single one of my 250+ CD's ripped into my PS3. It took about 3 days to finish everything, and not ONE CD came up with an error.
Do u even own a PS3? If u do...why do u have so much hate for it?
Fw updates have become synonymous with problems. Come on Sony get it together (Yeah right like they are reading this site...)
360 has been synonymous with RROD, they update with new hardware, yet still get it. Point is, its not a hardware problem on Sony's end, not a Hardware one that will completely break your console. FW updates are easy, sending in a console isn't. It'll get fixed, don't worry bout it.
i am freaking out.. i aint plugin nothing to my ps3. other than my DS3 controller ... when its sorted then i will continue my routine.
I have two external HDD's plugged in, USB keyboard and Mouse along with an iMic (mic to usb adapter) and DS3 charger cord..btw, I have a 7 port USB 2.0 hub =]
It's the same here. Ive got 1TB external HDD and a Headset plugged in and nothing has happened.
is this even true? can anyone confirm this?
I have one of the TAC adapters and it worked great with my old PS2 version of Guitar Hero 1, and allowed me to use that guitar with Rock Band. But no more.... :-(
After the update my PS3 couldn't connect with my controller. Not making it up just because of this room/report I mentioned it a day ago (#7) http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-... PSN ID: whydis1 EDIT: Sure you guys are just as sharp as ever.
You ain't fooling anyone. Anybody can sign up for a PSN ID without a PS3. You sir fail.
You must be the most unlucky PS3 owner I have ever seen. Not much seems to go right for you on that console while so many others are doing ok with it. On the other hand, your 360 is doing well (judging from most of your posts) while most others are having problems for various reasons. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........does anyone think we should be skeptical anytime whydis posts something. Truth be told, if your controller messed up that's sad to hear. But you do realize that you do not have much credibility on this site so believability and sympathy will be in short supply. BTW....no need to reply. I really don't want to argue and comment zones are really not the place to have effective discussions.
why don't you charge your controller, and if its not that then connect it with the USB connector and then press the PS button, dont you people know how to sort problems out when they occur, hows your 360 working...*as a fire place*
@GoldenBoy wow, that was one of the most effective replies i have seen in a long time, lol. totally agreed!
Hahahah i was sure of something like this =)) 1 user gets something weird and right away "all the ps3 community has this problem!!! PS3 is doooomed!!!" or something like that and i was SURE that here, someone, would say "yes, i had this problem, after installing the new firmware my car exploded, my bank account lose all my money and a kamikaze exploded in my house". Pathetic, simply pathetic.... PS3 haters are always the same.
I would have thought anybody with a bc PS3 (which are no longer available new) would have transferred their saves a while ago. Still bad news though. Hopefully there'll be a quick fix. Pity about the pathetically emotive image used to accompany the story.
I posted on the site that had the message as well. *I have a TAC converter. Basically: 1. Froze under Gamepad settings in the XMB 2. Froze under Gamepad settings within game (lumines supernova) 3. Worked under RB/GH settings within game (plugged in adapter while in the menu of those two games). Please at least confirm #3. It works for me but I want to see if its an isolated incident with me (which I seriously doubt).
Arcade sticks and gaming pads from PSone/2. Duh.... But they need to fix this. I have a special NAMCO arcade pad that I use on my PS3. And it better still work!!
