PlayStation LifeStyle: "Here is the link for the direct download of PS3 Firmware 2.70, if you don't feel like waiting for it to download on your PS3, download this file to a thumb drive, or memory stick, and load it into your PS3."
this is WAY better than doing it off the PS3 on launch

looooook! im doing thi s from my ps3!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!WOW it works now! yes you will be seeing more of me!
did you know that when your downloading something it tells you how long its gonna take to finish. Great new feature!
so i can talk again! i dont own a computer THIS IS BIGGGGGGG
ill give u one if u can answer this question... would u happen to kno how to upload the system update into ur ps3 after u downloaded from the provided link? i cant seem to access it from my ps3
@ Bubbles The first think you need to do is create a Folder on an External Storage device such as a USB drive and Name the Folder: PS3 Then make another Folder Within the PS3 Folder (a Sub-Folder) and name it: UPDATE (make sure that the Folder name is in All Caps) Then you simply download the Update and put the File inside of the UPDATE Folder. After that, on the XMB, select System Update and then Select: Update via Storage Media, and then the PS3 should recognize it. If you don't create the proper Folders and name them properly, the PS3 won't automatically recognize it. I'm not sure if you are trying to do it by using the PS3's web browser, but I always do it on my PC.
thanks man, i found out how to do it from an unofficial sony blog. preciate it anyway. bubbles +
boring, I don't want this.
it doesnt want you either.
The download and install was really really fast. I think it would take much longer downloading on the PC, transfering it to a USB mass storage device, walk to you PS3, insert the USB device, then install. Too much to do. I'll stick to the one-time action installation that finishes in about 10 minutes.
Here are some fun facts *edit* There aren't any spaces in the strings /2009_0402_3352adc32e39ec5f7b 4cdeb8b861052a/PS3UPDAT.PUP 2009_0402 is obviously the year, month and day of the firmware. 3352adc32e39ec5f7b4cdeb8b8610 52a is its MD5 string, so if you're unsure about whether the firmware correctly downloaded, you can generate the file's MD5 and compare it. All said, I've found that the firmwares download a lot quicker these days, I used to download them onto my laptop and copy them onto the PS3 but it's not a problem anymore.
LOT faster than wireless PS download.... BTW... What the hell are these "bubbles" people give eachother??
