Survey: 50% Say Viral's a Fad

Viral marketing is one of the latest hot marketing tactics, but half of the respondents of a new survey think that it's a fad that only a limited amount of marketers can execute successfully.

Advertising and media site MediaPost reports on a survey of the portal's readership conducted by Dynamic Logic, which asked 1,039 respondents to rate the "fad factor" of viral ads on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the most "faddy" (meaning that few can actually pull the tactic off successfully) and 10 indicating that it's suited for mainstream use.

According to MediaPost, 50 percent rated viral on the "fad" side while only 24 percent ranked it as a mainstream marketing option.
