PS3 will secure Blu-ray format, says Tretton

PS3 will deliver on a ten-year life cycle and secure Blu-ray as a digital format in the same way that PS2 did for DVD, says SCEA president Jack Tretton.

Speaking in the announcement for PS2's price cut, Tretton said: "Demand for PlayStation 2 remains strong throughout the world, and the new $99 price point will bring in new consumers who will discover how PlayStation platforms are an outstanding choice for their gaming and home entertainment needs."

The PS2 was my first DVD player and I was weaned on that format via a game system. While I cannot be considered an early adopter of the blueray format it's definitely one I'll be using for a long time because of my PS3.
