'Dead Rising 2' Is Supposed To Have Most Characters Ever… 6000?

At a presentation about the visual technology behind the development of Dead Rising 2, the game's character art lead, Izmeth Siddeek, said that the development team at Blue Castle games is preparing for players to encounter an unprecedented zombie horde. "Dead Rising 2 deal[s] with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game," he said. "Everything else needed to be subordinated to this requirement."

5999 people to kill at a time..!! Awesome !! i hope they fixed the save system from the first.. PAIN IN THE AS* that was !!!

...whether or not these 6000 characters are possible in an action sequence in game I'm a bit more skeptical. How far would they need to pan out a camera angle or view for you to see 6000 characters on screen before they all just become indistinguishable from one another is a better question.

While this 6000 characters sounds great until they talk about how or why they need to show 6000 characters on screen I'm indifferent to this information. It all sounds good but I prefer more details of the application.

I'm sure I've seen 6000 ants at once when I would kick open a massive ant hill as a child but that's not impressive. Now if those same 6000 ants carried me off I'd be floored and VERY impressed.

What i wouldnt do with a grenade launcher with lots of ammo...

Dead rising seemed too hard to rescue the people, but thats because I only rented it and dindt learn much. Now I know that you can give the survivors weapons, I think it would be easier. Alot of the people died when I played it. It was cool when I started to just let the survivors die.

Tempist3103d ago

I'm very, very skeptical about this. As far as I can see, more than 90% of the on screen characters will have to be either sprites or very low polygon count characters.

I'm sure as well that something got lost in translation and the 6000 number is more like a target (which they will fall short of).

Is the 360 even realistically capabile of this?

ThanatosDMC3103d ago

I remember accidentally sledgehammering one of the survivors when i was in a panic trying to save her from the zombies... i was stunned for a second that i was the one to brutally kill her and then i laughed!

...Until Croteam announce Serious Sam 3, that is.

im not sure the ps3s gpu is gonna handle all those polygons

but then again i guess they can say

they aint sure how the 360 is gonna handle all that AI

PotNoodle3103d ago

Both will be perfectly fine.

The PS3's GPU has just as much raw processing power as the 360's, it is just the extra little features on the 360's that gives it that slight upper hand, but none of those features would aid in such a thing.

Both consoles will be perfectly capable of handling this, and many more games to come.

We won't see either console hit their limit for a very, very long while.

darkside3103d ago

if PS3 GPU can't handle it, they just turn one of the six SPU in the CELL into a GPU. If that's not enough they'll use another one and so on.

heyheyhey3103d ago

if the PS3's GPU can't do it... neither can 360's

in fact, if the PS3's GPU can't do it... the Cell can assist in graphics processing, the 360 on the other hand... would be fvcked because of it's outdated hardware

WhittO3103d ago (Edited 3103d ago )

lol it has shown it already can, just take a look at Heavnly Sword last levels, thousands of enemys and you are able to interact with all of them and without "dumb" AI as a compromise. (not to mention all of the amazing visuals going on around you such as huge catapults etc!!)

I think you should be asking if the 360 can handle it!

ray69883103d ago

u have to remember its not like 6000 smart enemys trying 2 flank u or lob grenades at u its just 6000 zombies which is perfect

testerg353103d ago

whitto, oh please.. I have heavenly sword and its far from having good AI when all those enemies were on the screen. Instead of attacking all at once all you got was the typical line dance. All they did was move left and right with you.

ThanatosDMC3103d ago

Most of the zombies that are far away from the character will just idly stand around there like on the first one... probably.

WhittO3103d ago (Edited 3103d ago )

well if they attacked u all at once, it wouldnt be much of a game since you would last about 1 sec, and they didnt just stand there, granted those in the background were just flowing in after you have defeated those around you, but they would do far more than stand there!!!

And i was just proving the ps3 can "handle" the polygons, Zombie AI isnt exactly going to be extremely advanced either !!

GiantEnemyCrab3092d ago

Who cares? The original classic was butter on the 360 and this sequel is a slamdunk on the 360 and that is all I care about. Not going to play this with a PS3 controller.. hell no!

I'm not sure what you mean in either case? 360 has handled AI fine up to this point and PS3 games like GT5:P and Lair have very high polygon counts....so uh yeah.
