GDC09: OnLive Walkthrough Shows It All

Ripten: "Over at the Game Developers Conference, OnLive is being demoed and boy does it look amazing. It has all the features any gamer could want. First off, it has a Showcase of games displayed in such a stylistic way with a catalog of games from great publishers such as EA, Take-Two and 2D Boy. Second, the Friends pages are awesome, with their moving video captures and brag clips. Third, the games stream amazingly fast and by the looks of it, there's no need to install since it's running off their server."

except that hosting cost is $1 per user per hour. Ouch!

Who says it's $1 an hour?

I wont even think about using this service if that is the case. Subscription plus Hosting fees = no buy. Id rather stick with xbox live then.

i agree with you then you have to pay ISP for monthly bill

wait until this thing goes live. You'll all be paying twice the amount to game... renting a game for 5 days? Can you even out right buy/purchase a game on OnLive?

Many gamers credit cards are to be going into overdrive!

And what about when you have network or server outages/downtime? There goes a portion of your rent time!

No way I'm going near this thing... I'd rather go with Valves Steam and an expensive rigg, at least the buck stops at purchasing games.

How much is it to rent a game for 5 days? Ok. shhhh. No really shut it! Until we know... shut it!

How much does Onlive cost?

When 1000+ people want to play a game 1st release game at the same time, it'll fall over!!!

that dosen't make sense. when you buy a game from your account, it supposedly copied over onto your dedicated space on the network, but its over thier super fast local network,so a game only takes like a few seconds to copy over.

so that means that each game is running on its own super pc dedicated to you, so as long as they have enough super computers in the first place like they say they will, then running a new game like that shouldn't be an issue.
