GDC09: Takahashi says Noby Noby Boy was developed on 360

Speaking at GDC, Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi revealed that the PSN title Noby Noby Boy was developed on the Xbox 360. As to why it was then released exclusively on the PSN, Takahashi said that he dislikes seeing so many people staring down at handheld games on the subway. He joked, "Maybe it's not such a good thing if a game sells a lot of copies. So we put it on the PS3 as a download only title so it wouldn't sell as many." On a more serious note, Takahashi said that he likes that the analogue sticks on the PS3 controller are aligned horizontally, as opposed to the asymmetrical setup on the Xbox 360 controller. Feel free to consult his diagram above if you're confused.

he used a 360 dev kit and ported it over to work on a PS3 and released it exclusively on PSN... o.O!!!!!!!

PirateThom3106d ago

Yeah, that's just... insane. I can't even think of a logical reason for it.

o_0 WTF is wrong with that guy?

Takahashi?

He's just insane, he created Katamari and Noby Noby Boy, so it's completely reasonable to believe he'd create a game on one console and only release it on another.

Bnet3433106d ago

I agree with the analog placement. Games like Katamari aren't suited for 360. But why not just release it on both platforms to make a better profit?

ChozenWoan3106d ago

Due to XNA (whatever the game dev SDK is called) being a free development kit, he likely used that to make the game. But since he originally wanted it to be on Sony anyway, just showed it to them to prove that he had a workable game in development. Then they kindly handed him a copy of Phyre Engine to port and finish it up.

And now you know the rest of the story.

Elven63106d ago

On Kotaku's article he also said he wanted the game to sell bad, wtf???

If the framework is already their, why didn't he just release it on both consoles???

Killjoy30003106d ago

He clearly stated he just didn't want it to sell that many copies.

solidsnakus3105d ago

lmfao, ps3 is so hard to develop for that he made a ps3 exclusive on a 360 dev kit LOL!

Veneno3103d ago

So, he started development on 360, then halfway realized that the sticks are asymmetrical? BS. Also, Noby Noby Boy uses Six Axis controls, Yet he conveniently forgets to address the lack of it on the xbox. BS all round.

Strangely this make sense to me except the porting.

xabmol3106d ago (Edited 3106d ago )

He doesn't want a lot of people to play his game and he doesn't want it to sell well?! CRAZED ASIAN SARCASM?!

After seeing the games this guy puts out... He is prolly mentally insane.

EDIT:

*Puts on foil hat*

Thanks UltimateIdiot911, my last one was stolen by aliens.

UltimateIdiot9113106d ago

I can understand why he doesn't want it to sell well. This whole gen has been obsessed with sales. Many fanboys fail to realize sale=/=quality. I guess he only wants people that is only willing to take a chance to appreciate or try to understand the insanity to play it. What better than PSN. I mean, PSN got Flower, Flow, Eden, etc. Games that are different, unique and misunderstood by many.

Eromu3106d ago

He was joking about the not wanting it to sell thing...

UltimateIdiot9113106d ago

There are truth behind a good joke.

KingDragunov3106d ago

HAHA omg! Developed on the 360 but 360 users don't get a single thing! That's so weird!

mboojigga3106d ago

Nothing nuts about it. Yeah it sounds strange but did it cost cheaper for him to develop it that way?

Software_Lover3106d ago

I was about to say the same thing
