Activision's June 16 release of Prototype for Xbox 360 will be the first game out of the gate with DTS Neural Surround. No mention of whether the PS3 or PC version of Prototype are being considered for Neural Surround. Future yet-to-be-revealed games for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and the PC are already in development to support the new format...

May I ask why none of the other versions have this?

KionicWarlord2223547d ago

i thought the same thing... perhaps they worked on it first on xbox 360?

If you read the article you will see that apparently, they believe Prototype is 360 exclusive, when it's not. They don't even mention the PS3 and PC versions.

Verbiage was revised to be more clear. Only the 360 version is mentioned for including Neural Surround. DTS said nothing about Prototype on PS3 or PC getting the audio.

I was under the impression that PS3 had DTS audio for games as well and not just Blu-Ray. I guess not....

i saw that but still it just werid.

Johnny Rotten3547d ago (Edited 3547d ago )

isn't this the first game on the 360 with 7.1?

this converts 5.1 to a 7.1 channel sound, the PS3 wouldn't need this since it already does 7.1 out of the box (I'm just guessing that's why Sony don't need it).

here's the full explanation from the DTS website with parts of the quote this website took it from.

MazzingerZ3547d ago (Edited 3547d ago )

Yes, PS3 has HDMI 1.3 while the X360 HDMI 1.1 that's the key to know what type of DTS sound they can or can't support

PS3 supports DTS-HD Master Audio, and other type of audio, eveything uncompressed so this being news for the PS3 would be silly that's why they only mentio the X360 which will get a compressed version of the audio anyway...this news wouldn't be that "great" if they had included what the PS3 is capable today reg. that matter.

Actually HDMI 1.1 does support 7.1 LPCM. Don't know if the rest of the 360 does tho.

d3vad3547d ago

I believe Lair has discrete 7.1 surround sound, if not, my bad.

Johnny Rotten3547d ago (Edited 3547d ago )

Killzone is 7.1,

edit: I could be wrong but I think it's the only game that supports it. MGS4 doesn't.

PotNoodle3547d ago

As is MGS4..

Infact, there are quite a few PS3 games that are - just not many people have 7.1 systems so it isn't shouted about yet.

xbollox3547d ago

hilarious acronym: "Neural THX" for what's basically a cheapo compressed 7.1

nothing beats uncompressed PCM over hdmi

kai_h3547d ago

A list of games on the PS3 that do and do not have 7.1 surround (discrete, not matrixed, I believe). According to the list, there are 70 games with 7.1 surround, eight of them being THX certified. Thirteen, of them are PSN games as well.

Well i believe that soon a Prototype vs Infamous discussion its going to be unleashed.

Cajun Chicken3547d ago

Yeah, you could say that, but it would be pointless. Both games are playable on PS3 not 360, so best of both worlds is what I say.
